Takara Tomy To Produce Kids Anime with Korean Company

According to Nikkei, Takara Tomy and Korean Entertainment company Sonokong announced a joint investment project to produce about five anime in five years. The first title "Pretty Rhythm" will be aired from April in Japan and from this summer in South Korea. The target audience are small girls. Character goods of the anime will be released both in Japan and South Korea.

"Pretty Rhythm" is Takara Tomy's arcade rhythm game. A manga adaptation by Asabuki Mari has been serialized in Ribbon magazine since July 2010.

The number of Japanese animations aired in South Korea is tightly restricted to protect the local animation producers. Takara Tomy intends to place their anime out of the scope of the restriction by accepting investments from the Korean company.

Excellent way to break into the protected South Korean market. Now, I wonder if they're going to try the same tactic with the North Korean market ...

I hope if they planning ahead for five years they won't produce shows only for small girs but they'll do josei or seinen. That would be great~
