| Something hit me when I saw the episode play out, intentional or not, that I think makes it for me. Luffy says "I'll save you even if it means death" at one point, and it seems like it *did* mean death, but he also succeeded in saving him from the question "should I have ever been born". The Whitebeard Pirates and Luffy showed Ace his life was worth living, and although it also meant his death, he was "saved", leaving him happy at his end. |

| Oh god, one of the saddest episodes!! Along with the Going Merry farewell and especially the episode when the mugiwara crew got separated at sabaody.... :( T-T To see luffy in that state is heart breaking to me! It didn't look to me like he's laughing but like how he's loosing his mind literally. Maybe I didn't have this laughing-impression since i read that chapter... I was crying my ass off, even more reading the manga though tbh. R.I.P. Ace. But now we know why Ace reacted the way he did (instead of ignoring the insults) - because of his past. Sigh...I have to say: Oda is really a genious cause I don't cry easily and to think that a shounen manga/anime makes me feel like this and makes me cry so hard...Oda-sama is awesome! Best manga/anime of all time to me! |

| This episode just entered in my top 5 saddest scenes from One Piece. I must say that for a character who wasn't shown so much in the show he did leaved his mark on me so Ace's one of my favorite good guys. I didn't think that this episode will be so sad, but I was wrong. R.I.P Portogas D. Ace! I will never forget you! |

| When he said he wanted to see Luffy's dream come true, I started crying, it was so damn sad~ Though I think the end of Sabaody and "Goodbye Merry" was way more sadder. Maybe because I wasn't spoiled at that time :/ |

Akainu's magma nullifies Ace's fire logia, just like how Crocodile's sand is nullified. So any magma damage that ace takes will inflict damage to him as if he were a normal human, unable to regenerate. Very sad episode, i thought the silence, luffy's begging, and his insane 'cry-laugh' near the end showed how delirious Luffy was at that point. How many Iva-hormones at this point, Luffy has suffered not just insane physical damage but now a mental one... The episode could have been improved slightly, like the splat that Ace made when he fell like a tomato, i almost laughed but yeah, can't quite since my eyes were already wet. Still... it's about the top few saddest moments in one piece... |
