Damn it that's depressing. How could they kill Yang off like that? And with only a single shot through the leg? Given all that he's done that was a really shitty way to die ;__;

That just threw everything into a spin. How will the Iserlohn forces recover from this? This is just so sad the empire, especially Reinhard, can't even call it a real victory.

Andrew Fork was the earth's puppet, he allowed the murderers to come in the ship.
Yang's death was one of the saddest I've seen. T_T

From now, what shape will take the conflict, there is no defined ennemy facing the Empire.

WHAT?!! Fuck, I knew he was eventually going to die, but that just sucks. Hard to judge the death without watching more though...

This one pretty much skyrocketed all the way to the top of most depressing deaths.

RIP, Yang, you will be missed.

nngggghh...

erk. Cowardly Imperial grunts. Reinhard should have predicted something like this would happen. And also, stupid narrator for foreshadowing this for the past 3 episodes.

While I'll never admit this about anything else ever, especially considering my grieving period for anyone dying usually lasts the length it takes me to say "that's a bummer"...I cried during Yang's death scene. He was my hero, the one character in anything that I could both relate to and look up to...yeah it's sappy, but fuck that left me depressed...

I am now even firmer in my stance that Legend of the Galactic Heroes is not the best anime ever, it's the best /thing/ ever.

What a pity he died this way! If he had to die in this anime (although he was the only one who had projects for the future, besides the army, not like Lonhengramm), it should be in the battlefield against Lonhengramm or one of his greatest admirals.
I felt sorry for Blumenhard death too.
very depressing indeed :(

This episode really emphasized the emotion of helplessness in the audience. It perfectly created frustration in the viewers....

LoGH just failed in not following the rule of killing the fucking coolest characters. I'll probably like Spiral Labyrinth more because it doesn't kill Yang. Hopefully...

Now for some thoughtful discussion to keep our minds out of what just ruined LoGH.

That was... just stunning. I didn't react until the next episode, and I just cried through all of that.

Most moving, shocking, angering and powerful death I've seen in fiction. Everything else will henceforth be struggling to be even a small shadow of it.

Dying in some epic battle would have been really cliched and does not fit logh much. Bleeding to death is exactly the kind of unexpected death i would expect from good writers. Like someone mentioned, it also makes the viewer feel helpless and even more engrossed in the show than they already were.

I cant remember what the hell I wrote in this thread before MAL decided to crash and lose a billion threads.

I probably commented on how well the episode was written and directed, building up tension to nerve-breaking levels, because we already know something is going to happen thanks to the narrator but we dont know exactly when or how. Its just brilliantly tense and ultimately devastatingly tragic, watching Yang shot by a nobody, and spending his final moments in that corridor by himself.

One of the best episodes of the anime medium, I watched it twice in a row which is something I rarely ever do.

You think the narrator is bad? Look at the next episode previews -- especially the one at the end of episode 81 -- for excessive spoilage. I know Artland did these OAVs with those who had read the novels in mind, but it wouldn't have hurt to ease up on the spoilers.

I know the next episode is going to be rather rough to watch.

Never watch previews. I hate that they exist in the first place. I dont have a problem with LotGH's narrator, its a device to raise tension and anticipation, it veers into spoiler territory a little, but like I said above we dont know how things are going to pan out or if the narrator is being vague to trick us, so we're still going into the unknown. Unlike previews which literally show everything to you.

Ahem. Please excuse me while I rage.. again.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. WHY THE FUCK, WHY. WHY THE FUCK NOW OF ALL TIMES. RAAAAAGH.

Okay, I'm done. First things first, I was.. slightly obvious that Yang would die later in the series (seeing as how he escaped death a couple of times right in the beginning of the series), but, to die like this? A meager shot to the leg? Well, okay, it went through the artery, making him die from blood loss, but. heck. It's not the kind of death I was anticipating.

I was quite on the verge of crying after stopping the episode right before the preview. Shit, it's not fair, but neither was Kircheis' death. I guess that after an overly epic amount of episodes (from 78 to 82) and a couple of deaths (Steinmetz and Fahrenheit), Yang's death really tipped it.

Fuck, this is going to end up on my favorites by the time I end it.

I just... stared.

The credits started rolling and my eyes were still locked on the screen, jaw slightly open and my hands shaking. I don't think I started the next episode until I realised about ten minutes had passed and I was staring at nothing.

It was unbelievable. I never thought this anime would have been so daring as to kill off its most personable hero and the most brilliant tactical genius in the entire series.

That Yang would die was only evident in these last few episodes, before the narrator's grim voice declared that "it would be the last time Yang and Julian spoke through the whole night" I couldn't possibly anticipate it. I am certain that Reinhard will eventually die young, the brightest stars always fall first, but I always hoped that Yang would live on and die a humble death, retired and in peace, from old age. His early-death was quite shocking and the 3rd season's ed only made sense to me after this event.

Man, that was so... FUUUU-

Great men die on pitiful ways, but at least he didn't left the world with an epic death. He wouldn't be pleased. Just like Reinhard when he refused to build a giant statue of himself, both are humble man in his own ways.

I just felt so... empty, after watching this. Makes me value this series even more.

I think that's the first time I've ever, while watching anime, verbally objected to something happening on my screen by use of profanity.

Was a couple days before I watched any more LOGH, I knew it was coming for a long time simply due to the fact Yang has a successor in Julian, but this was harsh.

Absolutely brilliantly written, heartbreaking nonetheless.

After all that build up with Reinhard, and it ends with him being shot in the leg by some random guy without a name, and bleeding to death. Quite anticlimactic, but pretty artistic at the same time. Frederica and Julian are gonna be really depressed, but I think Reinhard is gonna take it harder than anyone. He is gonna be fuckin pissed when he finds out.

RIP Yang Wenli, Galactic Heroes...no, the anime world wont be the same without you.

I was too slow in skipping the episode preview ONCE in the entire run up to this point. Of course I knew it would eventually happen, just not the exact episode. Not that it mattered in the end. Between this episode and the following episode... manly tears were shed.

That wasn't a very heroic death for Yang Wenli. In a way it was of course fitting, not getting killed by Reinhard in battle for just some random people as part of a scheme.

Some kid at Otakon this year spoiled Yang's death for me, I'm kinda glad he did though, because if I'm taking it this bad with knowledge before-hand I don't know how I would've reacted if I did know. At least I wasn't entirely sure how it was going to happen, I knew it wouldn't be in battle since it would be too expected. After seeing his death, Yang Wenli will probably be my favorite fictional character of all time.

I liked Yang, I really did. But, it didn't bother me that much that he died. I think I'd probably take Reinhard's death, if he does die, a little harder. I do think that the scene was well done and not overly dramatic which, of course, fits the nature of LOGH.

The question is: Will Julian actually be able to fill the rather large shoes of Yang Wenli, I personally doubt it.

damn...I'm speechless =.=
even it was hinted before that he will die..but still it was very SHOCKING to see him die like that T.T one of the most saddest death that have ever seen..it was really really well written .... it was not a heroic death but really left an impact..I really cried T.T and seeing that black & white picture of him at the end T.T
omg I still can't believe that he is gone..such a great character...
I wonder how Reinhard will react..
and I doubt Julian will be as great as Yang...I think nobody can replace him..

Just the kind of gritty, realistic death I expected. The episode also really played with our expectations by having the red herring of Andrew Fork being killed and the Rosenritters storming aboard to save the day, as they have always done until now. Until now. :(

Someone in MAL spoiled that in ep 82 something BIG is going to happen and after sticking it to my face for couple episodes before I can't say this came as surprise.

Beh, I hate heroic, overly dramatic deaths anyway. Episode was made in pretty good taste.
