This has one of the most awesome ending songs I've heard in a long time. And I don't think it was bad, just average beginning. Besides, the art and designs are excellent as expected from a 90s OVA. Orgun design itself is a shameless copy of Tekkaman Blade, which came out the same year, though.

Detonator Orgun released before Tekkaman Blade Though.
however, both are re-imagination of the 1975 Space Knight Tekkaman series.
and both got same designers.

Two roles for Yamadera and THREE for Wakamoto in one anime, plus Hirasawa for the music, wow. Oobari's directing is new to me but has interesting traits (so many bright lights!)

Didn't expect a totally-not-Catty-from-Gall-Force cameo in the commercial. Some sounds also reminded me of G.O.R.N. from there. Same for the orange teleportation glow (like with Paranoid warriors) and boomer-like mouth beams. Some attacks vaguely reminded me of BGC and Gundam ZZ. Another fun note: the show features some dreaming devices, and Hirasawa would later work on Paprika which also had this idea.

Interesting that the final line referred to space (?) as "sora", not "uchuu". Same with the ending song.

P.S. Imagine confusing Luftwaffe with parfait

P.P.S. Don't know where the Tekkaman connection comes from, but it's hardly important.

This started very good, love the early 90s aesthetics and the tech design is just wonderful and creative.

Orgun looks badass.

And Professor Kanzaki... what a beauty!
