THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Reinhard better watch his back. He's been saying all along that even his subordinates are welcome to come at him and it looks like Reuental is seriously considering the proposition. Mittermeyer doesn't look like he'd go along so that may be a great strain on their friendship if it comes to pass.

Rubinsky is another one that better watch his back since the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His son looks to be gunning for his position too.

Perhaps Julian becoming a soldier will be a great boon for the alliance? As it stands they really need more capable officers. As long as he continually learns from the best he should be able to do fine.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

Ruental vs. Reinhard would be interesting I think. Hopefully for Reinhard it does not come down to that as he would lose a very capable officer. I wonder who Mitterymeyer would side with if it came down to that. Probably Ruental but you never know with this series.

Ah, the great irony of Yang teaching Julian about history. The historian-wannabe who is destined to make history himself.

So Reinhard made his spot open for a challenge? Looks like Reuenthal would be eager to try.

Interesting to know that Rubinsky is Kessling's father. While interesting, it sure adds to the unease in the two governments. Rubinsky should have his bases covered knowing what his son is capbable of, otherwise Phezzan will be looking at a new leader.

Yang.... the man can't seem to get a firm hold of things in his sight. Although he lost Julian to becoming a formerly enlisted soldier, he gains one more bit of talent to his pool.

History is ♥ I've yet to find another character who likes it as much as I do other than Yang. Why are historians so underrepresented? It's always the archeologists that get the spotlight. >___>

Well this was a meaningless episode, who cares about Phezzan? It seems like even Reinhard caught on now that Phezzan is up to something.

Yes, I wonder about that, too. Ruental could certainly give Reinhard a difficult time of it if he wanted I'm sure, although he would probably still end up dead in the end.

hehehe...I feel ticklish
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Reuental might want to challenge Reinhard? I really wish he wouldn't.

The Alliance has such a disproportionately large, potentially illegal amount of military expenditures, its economy is collapsing. In doing so the government buries itself in unpayable debt, owed to foreign nations (Phezzan). Gee, where have I heard that story before?

When Hilda suggested Reinhard was a hard man to persuade, Oberstein responded with a smirk and "Is that so?" Must find it pretty easy. Honestly he has the success rate to back up the smirk. Oberstein always gets what he wants.

Julian may become a huge help for the Alliance in the future considering they're hard pressed for talented soldiers.

I would argue that it does.
We humans just simply can not ever seem to see why.

I find it interesting that they were talking about Alliance ending up spending too much money on military expenses and therefore collapsing precisely because it tries to stay big. Considering this season aired before the collapse of Soviet Union that's very well put. Yang's philosophizing on the nature of armies was good as well, although the ideas hardly were unique.

If anyone's going to betray von Lohengramm, I'd bet on Oberstein. That man will stay in the background just as long as it's convenient.

A few episodes ago I realised that Julian is voiced by the same man who did Johan Liebert in Monster, now it's hard to miss. The voice is different but quite a few years have passed after all.

The thing that stuck with me the most this episode: Yang Wenli is probably the biggest pacifist at this point in the series, this was driven home a few episodes ago during the "inquiry". But, to Kempf's children he is "That Yang guy",The man responsible for their fathers death. It was just a short scene, but it spoke to me in some way.

I wonder, is Mareindorf or w/e her name is going to become the next Sieg for Reinhard? Or in other words be "the light". I initially thought this was the case, but now I'm getting the feeling she acted tough at first but is in reality way over her head.

Hilda's remarks on Oberstein are making me worried. I really don't want Reinhard to go down the lonely tyrant path...Hopefully Hilda can save him...

Good to see that Kircheis suggestions are still being used by Reinhard..Hopefully he keeps using them.

Worried about Ruental..Some major foreshadowing about his future. Will he rebel?? Hopefullly not. Him and Mittermeyer and one of my favs...

This Phezzan plot is getting me all nervous...After watching the preview I have a feeling that the plot is to assassinate Annerose....Hopefully this plot doesnt succeed!!! and Phezzan dies in the future...

Well if she doesn't step up to the plate I'm not sure who else would fit the role. Better act now before it's too late.

Nice episode
It seems everyone on the Empire's side is wishing Kircheis were here to better control Reindhart's ambition
I wonder what big stuff is going to happen soon.

Poor Yang. The only man with the ethics and the power to create universal peace is the guy that's hated by the largest number of people.

Oh, so they're father and son? No wonder they're both such conniving bastards, it runs in the family lol.

Looks like Reuenthal is ready to step up to the plate, this should be interesting.

"If only Kircheis were alive."

No wonder it's become a meme
Also that speech about the role of the military in human history was nice I guess
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."
