Makoto shinkai wanted us to decide what happens after the movie, This movie made me depressed so I’m putting my own version of the interpreted ending:

Just like in Spider-Man 2, The heroine will remember about their real boyfriend and will abandon the wedding and try to look for Takaki as she knows that he is in Tokyo (as seen in the ending). Confused Takaki, who has already moved on is confused on how Akari found him but doesn’t care and decides to screw it and marries Akari. They are now together. the end

Makoto shinkai said thats it’s our choice to determine what happens to Takaki and Akari. This is what I choose will happen, it’s not realistic, I understand if you think I went too overboard but this movie made me sad AF so yolo

During Akari’s wedding just like Spider-Man 2 she will remember Takaki and ditch the Wedding and look for Takaki in Tokyo, unable to find Takaki she remembers that an elementary school reunion will be happening soon (what a coincidence) She finds him sitting in the library, where he always used to stay when they were little instead of catching up with his old classmates remembering all these memories with Akari he had here(although he had already moved on) Akari talks to Takaki. Akari tells Takaki that she was the happiest in her life when they were together and tells Takaki that they should be together again. he is overjoyed that he is able to be with Akari again and decides to ditch the reunion to take a walk whilst the sakura petals drop towards them and catch up with each other on the years they weren’t in contact with you eacho other. 6 months have passed since they were together again and decide to marry and make even happier memories.

If any of you have read an interview by the creator Makoto Shinkai concerning this film, you'll know that he left the ending to 5 CM rather open because he felt that a happy ending would be too cliched and that he wanted us viewers to determine for ourselves what happens to the two after the film.

That's quite funny considering all the anime I've seen, not one ends up with a happy ending in the sense that they kiss each other.

Spoilers about other anime with no kissing scenes:

I think the clichee is the ''it's original if they don't kiss''. I'm getting a bit bored of it, and it doesn't really help that when someone is about to kiss in an anime, it's almost 100% guaranteed to get interrupted somehow (by a phone ringing or whatever). Oh well, I guess I just have to keep looking.

The way I see this film they both ended up moving on. They'll probably meet in the future, but it won't be a romantic reunion.

Series where the MCs do not kiss each other but it does have a tragedy

this might happen since they live in the small city the chances they will meet again is very possible. akari and takaki goes to an affair, akari file a divorce if she's married already. is easy to get a divorce here in japan, actually i read lot of case about family law cases that the other party file a divorce because they meet their first love or true love again for me that is a selfish act but i have no right to judge them ,lol that's why i don't like to involve in family law cases if i became lawyer in the furure i rather want to be a corporate lawyer or run a company is more less headache.

That is fucked up.I would go with the OG Ending

I found the film more like visual art porn than anything else and i didn't really like it that much and it doesn't solve the fact Takaki is still in a dead end job and the other girl in the second act who just got dropped and had no purpose in the film but in the books she did.
I wouldn't really watch that film again nor would i recommend it to anybody.

Okay, I'm empty asf right now.

I'm not even crying but I can feel the emptiness. When I watched this in 2017, I'd just broken up from a long-distance relationship so maybe I was trying too hard then. But watching it now, it certainly struck a chord.

Being the pessimistic person that I'm, I highly doubt things ended well for Takaki honestly. I wouldn't say suicide necessarily but nothing bright quite evidently, continuing on with that aimless life. Meanwhile, the marriage for Akari was a success and she lived happily ever after and perhaps sometimes recalling back to a lover from the past.

God, typing this just hit me hard once again...

Anyway, the movie had its meh features but the visuals and soundtrack were top-notch too.

Going to therefore up my previous score to a solid 8.0/10 now. I'll definitely rewatch this again in a few years' time, that's for certain.
