I forgot how awesome Bakuman is!!!

I almost T___T when Saiko's grandpa gave him the keys, and to what he said to his mother about him being worried but now knowing he's fine.

I felt the same way reading the manga, it really makes you feel for the family after losing their uncle, especially Moritaka after losing his idol/mentor!!

Needz Moar Miho!!!!

I'm not a fan of the art, and I think the anime is moving slow, but everything else is great!!! I'm just happy to see one of my favorite series as an anime. I really liked how this episode ended.

My impressions of 2 episodes so far is that the pace is so slow its grinding to a halt.
I realize that they are trying for an accurate depiction of the difficulties of teenage life, but the dialogue isn't particularly funny or emotionally moving to keep me engrossed.
I find myself surfing the internet and just listening to the dialogue halfway through the episode.

My 2 cents. Feel free to disagree.
I haven't read the manga serialization so I'm coming into this without any preconception of what is to come.

That was a decent episode, doesn't mean it's bad, its great. Great that's its in normal pace. If I remember they did all in one chapter or two? Also, Takagi's laugh at the nurse room was damn funny.

We need an image of her when she was younger, lol!!

Anyway the anime is going good. It's nice how they seem to go describing a relatively normal life with out getting boring.
BTW his one lucky guy, not only did they approved his actions but they seem to be helping him and he even got a studio. Not many have such luck in there life. Other have parents as obstacles or even if they are not obstacles they aren't supportive or they don't have anyone to go for help.

Other than that the episode wasn't extremely exciting so lets see what happens in the future.

This show has a magical feeling to it. It can make you laugh, and then be deep and emotional. Not exactly incredibly intuitive but exciting and interesting.

I didn't expect things to go so well for him honestly. It is nice to see the communication in the family, and Grandpa gets a thumbs up for being supportive. I loved the intelligent talk on the roof though; cute couples are indeed awesome. I laughed with Takagi so hard when he talked with him at the nurse.

I see what you're saying, but I actually like the pace so far. For me, it's really relax and nostalgic, sort of like Cross Game. The dialog wasn't incredible or profound, but it was clever enough to keep my interest, not to mention the excellent performance from the VAs.

Mainly, it doesn't try too hard. There's a lot of anime that came out this year that just tried too hard to be either funny or romantic and just failed, whereas Bakuman is what it is and doesn't shove it in your face.

I haven't read the manga either, so I have no idea what's going to happen with it. Also, this isn't exactly a strong opinion since I've only seen two episodes, lol.

love the opening song :P nice change of pace to the usual rock songs that most anime have (minus the opening of angel beast which had a more classical touch to it..though the insert songs were rock ..besides "my song")

The thing is, the manga does try very hard (and it succeeds). Plot twists, extreme expressions, fastest pacing of all the weekly manga I follow, cliffhangers in almost every chapter...it's more intense than the average fighting shounen. I was still feeling sort of hopeful last week, but looks like the adaptation will suck quite badly.

I feel that it is just a bit too slow as well.

Comparing it to Cross Game is a bit... Cross Game is a sports series, and in those the longer you stretch the match, the more you draw it out the more ridiculously awesome it feels. So for it's genre I found it to be extremely fast paced.
Bakuman, on the other hand doesn't have the same drive as a sports series, they need other ways to achieve the same epicness. I'm pretty sure that it will be an excellent show once we get to it, but right now it is slightly sub par.

The line "Men have dreams women can't understand" did annoy me quite a bit, though.

Hmm, well, in terms of facial expressions, I think it's doing quite well (Akagi's got nuttin' on Light, though), lol. I can't compare it to the manga because I haven't read it, but I guess this just means I'm better off for my ignorance. That seems to happen a lot.

Aha. I suppose I haven't seen enough sports anime (other than Giant Killing, and that was horribly paced), but I agree that the pacing in Cross Game was epic. Nonetheless, I felt really relaxed throughout the whole series. It was emotional without making me feel like I had been put through the spin cycle.

That's what I see Bakuman being. Of course I hope the pace picks up in the coming episodes, but I think these were great exposition episodes.

Also, that's just Japan. It's a very sexist society. The whole "I am man and will protect woman HAAAAA" theme is in a lot of anime.

I don't really see how the pace is too slow. Did people just want them to start drawing in this episode? The fact is that the ending of episode one was shocking enough that there needed to be some reflection on it so that it isn't too absurd. That happened, and then what's his face got approval from his parents, ending the episode with no only closure, but on a high enough note to lead into the next episode without feeling like a cheap cliffhanger (like most shows do). The show balances the crazy parts of the comedy with little discussions like the two on the rooftop and Saiko thinking about how to approach his parents.

As of now, the show is well done enough that I'm not worried about it being good or not. I do worry that the art could get worse and therefore bore me visually, so if there are enough slow episodes, I might just get totally bored. Right now, though, it's really good.

Too lazy to read through the thread, but there was a stealth sexist conversation edit in this episode. In the manga, Akito said that Miho's one of the three most intelligent people in the class because she knows an overly intelligent female is unattractive to males by instinct; meaning she does average on scores so as to not put off suitors. In the anime, however, Iwase was shown being cocky towards Akito, and only Miho's gracefulness got highlighted. The part about her picking a girlish dream (voice acting) with the intention of getting married was also removed.

Very good episode, overall. I'll have little to say until the first volume of the manga has been cleared but so far it's been great/faithful, and the sexism removal - Bakuman's greatest flaw, as highlighted by the lead's mother - is a good thing.

Hehehehe... Quite an episode... Loved to see the slice of life-ish side of this series... and Saiko's family.... Quite a thing... So far I'm really enjoying the ride, the obvious problem here is the below average animation...Anything else is superb... I don't really mind those who say that the pacing is slow... Almost snail pace... But do not worry people, 'cause the it will step up and take us to crazy journey through all their hits and troubles through the whole timeline of the story... I love the idea of this anime being a 25 episode season, since they will prolly catch up to a point where the season ends awesomely well like when they have their first successful try... or something like that...

Well whateverI really loved the interaction between Saiko and Shujin and if I weren't readng the manga I'd have said something similar of this being a bit Yaoi.... maybe... they will have a rowdy night adventure at the studio xD Nah they won't yet they have such a connection between each other... and it's being only a pair of days since they started talking between each other yet they understand quite well... I dunno why but their team is perfect... obviously they will make awesome mangas.. And i'm also talking of what's to come in the manga....

@Mammoth... I have no idea why you don't like the anime so far.... It's faithful to the manga... obviously you can never have the same exact things happening in both, yet it's faithful and keeps the manga flavor... So far I like it

Girls are kewl... yet Moritaka's mom is so useless... Lol she was horribly tossed around when she was supposedly going to oppose to Saiko's decision... Ojji-chan made me lol in themanga and he made me laugh this time as well... thou we've never seen him again I love the support he received from him and also from his dad... Dad's response was unexpected... yet possitive for what Saiko wanted... YEHA! Next episode will be quite fun for sure! Oh btw... Iwase is so sexy.. her voice... and her body... dude Iwase is the girl! tho Kaya has bigger boobs O_O

Not exactly pleased with the sheer amount of QUALITY that JC Staff has exhibited on this show.

For a manga that consistently outsells and outrates most of the "big 3" in Shounen Jump I would expect it to at least be animated with a large budget. But this looks only slightly better than the utter garbage that was Kaichou wa Maid Sama.

I guess JC Staff is putting all their effort into Index S2.

I had no idea the manga that this show is based off of was so popular. I think Kaichou had better animation than Bakuman, though.

Aside from the obviously sexist comment relayed through the mom (which was complete FAIL), the episode was awesome.
