You, me, and a few others it looks like.
Yeah, I've been wondering when the preference became thirteen pages of exposition to start a series. I suspect we may just be dealing with easily confused individuals, as usually the lack of knowledge is not the same as confusion. We lack knowledge because they haven't told us everything. We would be confused if they had told us something that didn't make sense, or conflicted with itself.

Seriously, I have seen complaints that it the show didn't give us all the info contained within the thirteen page pdf file that guy's been spreading around (I guess you have too. we're all reading the same thread). That was kind of him by the way, it shut some of them up, but seriously I don't know what possible circumstance would allow an opening episode to contain thirteen pages of exposition and still be entertaining.

Am i the only one who found this extremely stupid and unbearable?

I didn't know how cliche when the MC just gets all this power out of nowhere and beats the bad guy. Episode was way to rushed.

Seriously guys, I don't see anything bad with the transformation scene because it made intentional by the creator.Again, from the creative team from Sailor Moon,Neon Genesis Evagelion, Ouran, RahXephon, Eureka 7, and Utena… what do you expect? Manliness? His outfit does look like a more flaming version of Simon’s final outfit crossed with Ouran‘s school uniform and a dash of Ohtori Academy for good measure.

It wasn't extremely interesting, but I still really enjoyed watching it. Very well-made, nice production values from Bones. I look forward to explanations.

well he doesnt have to be a badass but they cant go to the extent of calling him galactic pretty boy, that just pushing it. i really cant take the show seriously because of that ,i laughed every time they said galactic pretty boy, and seeing how it was supposed to be a grand entrance i dont think me laugh at the part is a good thing.

Because I guess comical and grand are mutually exclusive? Did I get the reasoning right?

Ginga bishounen!= Galactic pretty boy!! ---I felt i needed to check my ears to make certain i heard right but then they repeated it. I don't know if i should be amused or facepalm.
The fact that his mobile suit looks transsexual isn't helping ether.

Liked the art. Too bad is gonna be wasted in a crazy anime like this as it seems. What awesome heroes should we expect next? Ultra violate-lesbian and Thunder-metrosexual?

Other than that i didn't get much of the plot since there was no explanation what the hell those things are and all that but i assume it will be explained as we go along.

For guys that bothered much about Ginga Bishounen aka Galactic Pretty Boy name, here's quote from Enokido interview:

—The catchphrase attached to the series, “Dazzling the stage, Galactic Pretty Boy!” is pointing at that too, isn’t it? It’s a kind of embarrassing catchphrase though, isn’t it? (lol).
ENOKIDO “How’s that!” I say. If it’s just normally embarrassing, it’s no good, in my opinion (lol).
.....
ENOKIDO So, I was struck with the phrase “Galactic Pretty Boy,” but, after all, it’s just an homage to “Meteor Boy” and “Space Boy” and it just sounds retro. That’s not it, what I was thinking about at the time was that, in the past phrases like “Meteor Boy” and “Space Boy” made my heart pound for real, and I wanted to share that feeling with people now. That’s when it struck me, I added “pretty” and ended up with “Galactic Pretty Boy.” Even though everyone around me was laughing (lol).

Basically Enokido saying that Galactic Pretty Boy is a homage of old-school shows and he wanted people share the retro "feeling". You don't see that kind of name anymore nowdays.

As far as gurren lagann being over the top awesome and this being over the top stupid, gurren lagann had plenty of the stupid. Especially in the early episodes. Episode one they had an escape plan involving two stampedes of pigs colliding to somehow form a makeshift propulsion system. Kamina kept bragging about his gurren brigade long before he had one. They had robots that ran on fighting spirit. In one instance they won the battle by rejuvenating the fighting spirit by means of eating a pig-mole's tale which it freely offered and presumably later grew back. The scene where they first learn how to gattai was just patently rediculous. The list goes on.

I am not disagreeing with that. But despite all of that it still remained awesome. That's my point. It was over the top but still awesome but this was over the top and remained stupid.

Fair enough. The heart wants what it wants or whatever. A matter of preference. I figure I've watched worse and will again (in fact I think I sandwiched the episode between two episodes of some pretty atrocious stuff), no reason not to hop along for the ride. Some people are pickier than that or just genuinely don't enjoy certain types of shows. I clearly misunderstood your statement regarding the comparison between the shows and for that I apologize.

Maybe people are comparing this to TTGL because there was a galaxy in Zero Time and there were big mechas fighting in that Zero Time? I guess that's why. But this is confusing and fun at the same time. This is a keeper for me.

It was a silly and ridiculous ep, but I liked it. The OP is great, but Watanabe can't never fail. The art is good, the battle was nice and I really loved the song that the blue hair maiden sang.

What the hell was I doing when Code Geass was dethroned as the most fabulous anime ever created...? Though, probably the most interesting part of that sentiment is that unlike Code Geass, this isn't intended to be a parody of sorts.

He seemed to have prior knowledge of what it was. I think it's tied in with when he mentioned having been trained to defend the defenseless. Seeing how the evil organization knew about his father it's safe to say he's deeply tied in with all this stuff and is only now entering the field.

I also suspect that this might be a situation where the cybodies are designed to be controlled intuitively, rather than through some complex control system. That would also contribute to his ability to pilot so well as a first timer.

There are certainly other such over the top shows, but they haven't been "in fashion" for a long time. TTGL is one of a handful of such shows within the last ten years and you could count on one hand the mecha shows with it's energy level in the same period of time who aren't remakes/reboots of pre-existing shows from a time when it was in fashion.

Also the sheer size of the final robot makes it ideal as the iconic over the top mecha show. It's not that it's the only one, it's that it has become symbolic.

In Getter Robo too, there's a robot that's huge. The creators of TTGL admitted themselves that they took the concept of evolution from Getter Robo. It's called Getter Emperor by the way. So TTGL really can't be the defacto icon of over the top mecha, unless you tell me what you understand by "iconic". Popular =/= Icon.

I hadn't caught on that the catch for guys was the girls. I'd thought it was the robots.

I don't like the mecha designs. The creators themselves admitted themselves they're ignorant of the mecha genre.

You speak of bones being bright and flashy but they weren't as gay, maybe except for Heroman. Anyway t I'll continue watching it because I don't really watch anime outside of mecha anymore and it's bad to judge stuff based only on mecha design or gayness. I'm sure it must have other redeeming qualities. Even Heroman had good stuff going on in it.

Why do you keep throwing around gay as if it's like some kind of actual adjective for the quality of a show? Also, you're confusing bright and fabulous for gay

Which part of this is gay? Unless the meaning of the word gay has changed, I believe that it's used to refer when a male is sexually attracted to another male. Which is what I don't see for even one milliseconds here.
