Master Roshi was really kind in this episode and now I understand why he's doing what he's doing.

Hah, I knew that this is his purpose to join the tournament from the start, but the glue he used confused me a bit :D

Roshi's probably one of the better mentor characters in anime, imo. He's definitely my favorite character of this series so far.

Also, was that technically the first aerial battle in the Dragon Ball franchise?

Do you mean Aerial battle as in "flying", then no.

Master Roshi was already awesome because of his humor, but this episode really did him justice mentor-wise. He's thoughtful toward Kuririn and Goku's ambitions.
I did feel bad when Nam lost till his problem was easily solved with the Dinocap.

I was unsure how the plot would unfold to let Nam be able to help his village, but it seems to have worked out :)

I'd imagine that's why he said "technically".

Namu was such a fantastic competitor. Only recently getting my feet into battle shounen, one of the first things I realized was a tournament arc could truly shine if every person in the tournament were treated with respect. As in not using competitors as robots to lose to strong people to hype them up, or making combatants black and white evil in the tournament to rule the world, thus making it clear they can't win and taking away their humanity, but rather giving every person in the tournament a fair reason to be there. The reason can be personal motivation in the form of money, or pride, or for the sake of fighting, or for selfless reasons like Namu, but there needs to be a good reason for a fighter in the tournament, and preferably one to help us root for that fighter. If we can see where every fighter is coming from in terms of motivations and personality, instead of making them a one note obstacle or hype tool or a blatantly evil villain, then they seem a lot more human and bring a lot of life to tournaments. Throughout the entirety of Yuyu Hakusho's dark tournament I had hoped we could get characters like Namu, and they hardly ever got close to doing that aside from
Namu was very human, stoic, with flaws and strengths, fighting for a reason, but also a man with great sportsmanship. We're allowed to have people like Langfan, fighting for most likely personal gain in terms of money as long as they are humanized, which she was, but I think a perfect tournament arc is one that consists of a variety of people with these situations. The only truly bad one to me was Bacterian, he was a one note caveman who's entire character was about being gross. Even if most of these fights are gags, as always, the cast involved is well written and characterized especially for a tournament arc.

Master Roshi is such a kind-hearted, well-intentioned mentor, caring for both of his pupils and for the people who seem to be in need. It is quite fortunate that Nam won't go back to his impoverished hometown empty-handed. He had a great match with Goku, which, to me, is one of the best fights we have seen so far in the tournament. Anyways, despite his sexual tendencies and perverse nature, Master Roshi is a kind and caring old man.

I am curious about Goku's apparent durability. Obviously, He is not a human at all. That would explain some of his more unusual habits his body displayed. I am looking forward to the Pupil Vs Master fight, even though the pupil doesn't realize he is fighting his teacher, it should prove to be interesting.

Of course, it was glue he used, why didn't I think of that? Smh

What an intense fight between Goku and Namu. I'm interested in seeing Goku fight against Roshi. This could either be an intense fight or a complete failure on Goku's part.

It was the most amazing episode till now.

Master Roshi is actually worthy of his honor. I was feeling bad for Naam but master Roshi saved him and his village.

I thought master Roshi was judging his pupils but not. He was just wanted to stop them so that they can do more. A good lesson this episode gave. But Goku seems too much talented. It will be hard to defeat him. I hope it not become too hard for master Roshi and bad thing we will have to see Goku loose but going to see a super amazing fight.

Yes, this was a great episode. Glad to see Master Roshi help out Namu, and Master Roshi explaining why he's participating in the tournament under disguise. I expect Master Roshi to win and beat Goku but still hope that it's exciting and/or entertaining.

I liked to see how Turtle man genuinely cared about his students. I didn't really get that vibe before because of all the gag, and because he seemed to be more interested in Lunch. But his conversation with Namu really made me see that he cared for them, and I'm glad that I truly feel that way now.

This fight was a lot better than Krillin vs Roshi, thank god. I loved the conversation afterwards between Roshi and Namu as well.

This episode made me realize just how impressive Krillin is, though. He is a true human and is only falling a little behind Goku, at least for now.
