I buy a lot of manga and merchandise like figures, posters, CDs, etc. I rarely buy DVDs though.

To the people who use the excuse of not having stores that sell anime related stuff close by to them for not buying anything, haven't you heard of the internet? I've bought nearly everything online because there aren't many shops very close to me that sell it and plus I find it's often actually cheaper buying manga and figures from US/Japanese online stores than from shops here in Australia.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you have to buy anime related goods. It can be an expensive hobby and some people really don't have the money for it. I'm just saying that it's not a very good excuse to use. Just say you can't afford it / don't want to buy it. :

Some countries are very expensive to order out of country.

I know. That's why I said those people should say they can't afford it. It's just that it kinda annoys me when people say they don't buy any anime stuff because it isn't available anywhere near them. If they wanted it bad enough they could get their hands on it. In most cases it's just that it's either too expensive for them or they just don't want to go to the trouble of buying it online. Or they simply don't want to buy it in the first place.

Gahhh, I have too much Angel Beats stuff. I like the show, but I don't need a life size tapestry of Kanade, a regular Angel Beats tapestry, a pillow cover of Yuri, two Angel Beats magazines, a figurine of Kanade (again), a keychain of Angel Beats, a Kanade t-shirt, and four out of the seven blu ray volumes. Wtf was wrong with me D'X

I bought the "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" DVD about seven years ago, got a few anime titles from Netflix, and bought the first ten Vampire Hunter D light novels. I also used to watch anime on Cartoon Network when I was a teenager, so however much dozens of hours of ad revenue cost. All told, I've probably spent the equivalent of about $130 total.

Everything else, I download from various places. "Doing your part in supporting the anime industry" is comical; I like live-action movies and books even more than I do anime and manga, but I would have to be rich to pay for everything that I read and watch. And that's not even factoring all the music I listen to.

Spending thousands of dollars on some shitty plastic schoolgirl figurine you can jerk off to or stick up your ass is your own business. Justify it however you like, but understand how you look when chastising others for not wasting money in the same manner.

Some novels thats been adapted into manga's, guess that doesn't count? I rather support the orginal creator though.

Certain mangas and artbooks for it's artistic value, no anime at all though.

It's hard to support the industry in the UK.

They're trying to slowly eradicate it from our shops and minds. It's quite sad.

It's difficult to find anything that's anime or manga here without going to the specialised stores, but even then they barely have anything. Finding figurines can only be found in certain shops in a few cities across the UK, while every other merchandise is impossible to find unless imported.

I wouldn't mind going to the US or Australia instead, seeing as how they have a slightly better industry.

I've bought a couple DVD's of shows I really like. But I'm not such a weeaboo that I care enough to wear an anime shirt or drink out of an anime mug, hang anime posters etc. If I absolutely love a show I might buy the DVD. Otherwise it's just like watching a show on TV that is "okay," but that's it.

The point is that that would be their reason why its expensive. So saying that it isn't close by or cheap enough is very valid.

I buy manga, posters, dvds, and figures so yes, I do support the anime industry. I don't buy t-shirts or things like mugs because the idea of flaunting that you like anime to normal people is just appalling to me.

I buy a good amount of merchandise and DVDs so I do my part (when I can of course. I can't afford it all the time). When you look at my room it looks like I have all the money in the world to spend on anime, but it comes from years of collecting.

But I am guilty of torrenting a lot of my j-dramas. Finding an official copy of that stuff that's subtitled is extremely hard to find.

You know... I want to, I really do. I went to a bookstore recently with the intent of finally buying some manga. Then saw it was $20 a piece. So I figured, hell no. I can read a manga in no time flat, that's not reasonable. When I get a good job, maybe. Not now.

I occasionally watch Anime on TV which technically gets revenue for the company, I have been to an Anime Convo once and I bought nothing there but the Japanese food. and I watch them all online via the torrent.

I know what you mean, I live in London and it's rare to find Anime in most shops and even specalist shops are hard to find and miles away. Even in LONDON miles away.

I usually watch them online but if it's an anime that is currently airing and streaming by FUNimation or whatever and I like it, I will buy the DVD.
I usually buy anime DVDs whenever I have the money. It depends on what anime I felt like buying and I always buy new volumes of whatever manga I'm getting like Bleach, Naruto, Vampire Knight, any manga that I have at home.
As for merchandise, I get them at anime conventions. I have a huge collection and feel free to go to my YouTube channel. One of my videos has my anime collection, it's over a year old so I'm gonna do an update sometime this month with all of my DVDs that I bought.
But now my favorite store has more comic books than anime and manga stuff compared to 4 years ago. I'd have to buy the merchandise at conventions since the other stores are too far from where I live.

I haven't spent a penny on anime and don't really plan to. Buying DVD/BD discs is expensive as fuck, especially when you have very little money. Manga makes more sense to purchase and I'll probably buy some stuff once I get the money for it. If I ever learn Japanese I might preorder a couple visual novels if they ship to NA. Merchandise is cool with me too.

Just don't understand why anybody would pay hundreds for a 13 episode series.
