| I don't think the U.S. has a channel that's just for anime, but it wouldn't surprise me. I wonder, Japan has some, don't they? It would be really cool to watch the weekly series on the tv(I can today too using an HDMI cable from the laptop to the tv, but that's not the same). In my country, Norway, we don't have one. But we do air some animeseries on the kid/cartoon channels. But that's just horrible dubbed ones, and of course just kid animes like Pokemon, Digimon, Dinosomething... But if I could, I would be glad to have one :). What do you guys think? |
| There's those disney X channels I think? That has like pokemon and whatever else, other than that, as Jiynnx said: the other "main" channel for anime; which only had bleach / ghost in the shell / cowboy bebop? I can't remember towards the end, died. It did have a few more like guyver, planetes and that, but I'm guessing ratings weren't that great. But I don't mind anyway, waiting ages for a dubbed episode ftl, though they did have marathons weekly, which was pretty cool. |
| Toonami was the channel i watch anime in the past, that was like freaking 6 years ago. These days i don't think there is an actual tv channel for anime. It populated with kid shows really. I hardly watch tv as well, only show i bother watching is bbc news in the morning and Top Gear lol. If they released anime blu rays i would buy them also, don't like the fact that they aren't releasing animes on blu rays. Don't want to get a DVD series and then they release a hd blu ray release. |

| As mentioned, we used to have a channel called Anime Central that broadcast anime from around 9pm to 6am, and Propeller (Sky channel 195) used to have a four hour anime slot and I am sure I saw Afro Samurai on Bravo a couple of times. That was a couple of years ago now however, and the only anime shown now is on channels such as Cartoon Network and Jetix, which show all the kids stuff like Pokemon and Spider Riders. We do have a channel called NHK World however. As you may already know, NHK is one of the main Japanese broadcasters and thankfully they have expanded to the world circuit. They don't broadcast anime, but they do show many independent works created by young Japanese animators and students and show many interesting documentaries that often report on the latest anime, manga and games in Japan. I saw a documentary on Moyashimon the other week and other on Ninokuni, the upcoming Studio Ghibli/Level 5 DS game. Right now they're broadcasting a series of documentaries based around the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. There was an hour long one which Ken Watanabe hosted last week. It actually brought me to tears. Powerful stuff. The only problem with the channel is that there isn't a whole lot of programmes being broadcast, so they repeat things often but every week there is always some good new shows to watch. The good thing about NHK though is that, like the BBC, they are a Public Service Broadcaster which means they're funded by the license fee, so there no adverts other than the odd one promoting their own programmes. Oh and I nearly forgot, the channel on Sky is 516. @Colin - UK anime licensors (mainly Beez and MVM) have stated that they would like to release anime in blu-ray, but have mixed opinions as the market over there isn't really big enough. Despite that however Manga Entertainment are releasing a lot of anime on blu-ray, including new series like Eden of the East and new films like Rebuild of Evangelion and Redline, which just beg to be seen in blu-ray anyway. I wouldn't worry too much as if there is an anime that just has to be seen in blu-ray, the chances are Manga Entertainment will release it. Edit - FilmFour and the BBC broadcast a lot of anime films as well, a lot more than you would expect in fact. I think The Cat Returns is on FilmFour on Thursday and they had a whole Miyazaki season when Ponyo came out. They showed Metropolis last week too and they are currently doing an 'animation for adults' season and Grave of the Fireflies will be shown soon. The BBC broadcasted a lot of anime during their Japan season and often show the odd anime film here and there, you just gotta keep your eyes peeled. We might not get very much anime series, but we definitely have our fair share of anime movies on television. We had our TV premiere of Tales from Earthsea a whole two years ago when the film has only just been released in the US. |

Really? >> I think that's an appalling price, but seeing as HMV are one of the only shops that sell anime dvds, people who can't order online have to make do. I'll only pay like £20-£30 for a 26 episode series, no way I'd pay more. I went in like last week and saw what was it..? A volume of darker than black that was £8 which I thought was a decent price, but sadly there were only 2/3 volumes there. |

Hmm i haven't seen an anime that cheap in a actual store except from expo. Last expo i went to i got whole fma for £30 with the movie, gundam seed set for £5 a volume and code geass set for £30. I thought that was a big bargain. I haven't gotten any series from then, i'm waiting for a few series to be licenced first before i'm going back to expo. Would love to get dtb volumes for £8 each, that seems like a bargain too. I prefer buying sets though, they are usually cheaper than volumes. However you don't get those limited stuff with them :( lol |

| Yeah I was tempted to grab them but it wasn't complete, so I'd dislike that :/ But yeah, a lot of the time they only have volumes for around £10-20 each *ha*, I saw they had the complete collection of samurai champloo for £60 which was disgusting though, when I managed to grab it online for £30. I got a few from play.com which were great value. |

| Cex sell anime rather cheaply. I got black lagoon second barage for £10. Only problem with Cex is that almost all is second hand so you have no idea what they will have until you enter the shop...another shop selling cheap anime is Head, although it isn't as big as HMV, virgin, cex and I only know of one shop. |

| i havent watched much tv in the uk since i was really young, but cartoon network used to show dbz and tenchi. There also used to be some manga-movies on bravo and the sci-fi channel on saturday nights.im not sure what there is nowadays |

Funnily enough the most popular anime in the world DBZ whilst it was shown in UK was never big at all. Death Note, Cowboy Bebop even Naruto are virtually unknown here. |

| Film 4 also often shows asian films such as Deathnote live actions and the host ,oldboy etc but when they show the ghibli films usually its earlier in the day so its censored and just not as cool (Most recent anime related thing was on BBC 3 about some girl who is relatively well known in Japan as she got noticed on youtube for doing dances from animes and stuff. (Haruhi Suzumiya is mentioned now and then.) |

The BBC alone have had 'Japan seasons' on television where they have dedicated months to showing programmes about Japan and many films and entertainment programmes from Japan (I guess you don't know about the daily showings of Takeshi's Castle, Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuki on both Challenge and the Virgin channels either - they're all Japanese entertainment shows). They have also been making fantastic documentaries about the country and its culture for years and continue to do so; only last week was there a documentary about much of Japan and its pop culture (Beckii: Schoolgirl Superstar at 14). Plus as I stated in a post above, anime films are often shown on television as well as Japanese movies in general - even the hidden gems like Fumihiko Sori's Ping Pong grace the screen and we generally love Ghibli over here. I think Film Four have probably shown Ghibli's entire library minus Ponyo (and they often show two or three East Asian films a week as well) and as OtonashiYuzuru said above, even Channel Five have been showing anime films. Everyone saying that anime is shunned in the UK either has no idea or is just always in the wrong place at the wrong time. We generally have a large diversity of programmes originating from all over the globe on English television. |

| It sucks here in Brazil. Mostly it's just DBZ and Naruto on mornings with severe censoring, ever since they cancelled Toonami on CN. Original anime DVDs/Blu-rays are almost a legend, no way to get any without importing. Thank god for the internet, otherwise I'd be screwed. |

I've seen some awesome films thanks to film four, also sky movies used to show metropolis a good while back. But I think the "shunned" is in comparison with the US, where they have a few more dedicated channels, also the amount of stores that actually sell anime / manga (in my city there's hmv for and waterstones for manga, though saying that, cardiff has a bigger store for manga and that's only minutes away) not that it matters seeing as I buy online, but still :p |

| We're getting Durarara!! in October as well. Beez have stated that if the demand is there, they'll release titles over here in the same year they are broadcast in Japan. Good stuff considering our anime industry has really seen better days. ADV were kind to the UK with their endless titles and UK special editions, but now they're gone we have lost a lot of anime and only have around three remaining companies to rely on. Oh and we have had Champloo for a long while. The one coming out soon is a re-release. MVM are doing it for a lot of their series. |
