If by 3D, you mean CG, then I wouldn't want that. I think the real reason that I got into anime was because the lack of 2D animation coming from American studios. I grew up with bunches of 2D Disney films, so Japanese anime (being nice and 2D) helped filled the void that Disney is creating now that they are going down the CG path.

3D characters aren't capable of being as cute as 2D ones.

It's fine as long as the CG is as good as in FLAG or Reideen 2007.

Remember Macross F?

I never want to watch 3D again if it's going to be that jerky.

I don't really care for 3D anything, I'd much rather enjoy it just the way it is.

I've only ever seen one anime in 3D, Yu-Gi-Oh 3D: The Movie, and I thought the 3D looked really good, so for now I'll say that anime + 3D = coolness.

3D!?!? I like my girls 2D and that's my right as an AMERICAN! Oh.. right I wasn't american.. well for me it's pretty much the same whether it's 2D or 3D as long as the series itself is good. 2D has worked really fine for me, can't see a reason for change, but if it's for better then I welcome it with open arms.

Only acceptable in scenes where it's absolutely necessary(like when it's from moving first person viewpoint). But full 3D is just crappy, especially when done with average 2D budget.

CG is fine when used correctly. Best case examples are FLAG and Tiger & Bunny.

The studios don't think so, and expect more 3D anime as the otaku are buying their anime on Blu-Ray for the most part.

3D stuff is nice, but, c'mon. I get really depressed seeing studios like Disney just shifting everything on over to 3D. 3D is nice because it stands out and looks clean, plus you can do all kinds of stuff with it, but when I watch animation, I want to see different styles, not something that looks like the real thing - if that's the case, I'd just go see a live action. Having something in 3D to make it look more realistic and pop out at you is a great thing to see once in a while, but milking it to death and raising ticket prices just for a pair of 3D glasses is ridiculous - it loses it's charm.

I really hope anime keeps the variety of styles it has, mostly in 2D. I am a big fan of 2D stuff. I grew up with it and 3D movies were an occasional treat for the eyes, but now it's like they're just being milked to death and I can't stand it - it's made me want to avoid it, and hide back into anime, where I know there's some 3D series and 3D elements, but still tons of 2D series to see. I'm glad anime has mostly kept up its 2D style.

Overall, it's really just personal preference, but I feel like anime would lose some of its charm if it pulled a Disney/Pixar and started doing everything in 3D. 3D is just another art style and it's ridiculously popular. 2D can look flat, but it can also be AMAZING - think Miyazaki movies! I think more 3D anime would be nice to see, but not so much it dominates the genre. 2D stuff ftw!

There's a time and place for it, I like the 3-D movies lately.

But... not with anime. Maybe if it was like the Final Fantasy example mentioned earlier, sure, that's fine. But the majority of anime as it is now? I fear that turning such a classic 2-D art form into 3-D would make it look like... South Park, or something like that.

It just doesn't have the same "feel" to it. Making Anime 3-D would be as ridiculous as these rumors I'm hearing of Akira and Cowboy Bebop being remade in American live action studios. It would just ruin everything that makes it what it is.

It like it fine just how it is. But

I guess i could dig this also. I just wonder if the comedy aspect of the serie would be as funny in 3D as in 2D

I'm not saying anything mean about 3D but personally, I don't like 3D.
I coiling imagine anime in 3D, it just wouldn't be right, plus we'd have to wear glasses everytime we're watching

I much prefer 2D,especially now that every american cartoon movie these days is plagued with 3D and I'm getting a little sick of it. I miss the 2D feel and the look like it was lovingly crafted by hand(lol. cheesy-description I know.XD) instead of quickly on the computer to make a few bucks. I have nothing against anyone who likes 3D though. I just personally prefer 3D for my video and computer games, but 2D for my tv shows and movies.

Is a 3d 2d girl still counted as 2d?

I'm guessing it's cheaper to make a 3d anime vs a 2d anime. But it'll improve over time so im not concerned about it.

One thing that drew me to anime was it's unique look that is not found in North America. I don't really like 3D if it's used for the whole series, Bubuki Buranki and Ajin for example. It just looks kind of silly to me and distracts me from the show. I don't mind if it's used a tiny bit like in Love Live! for some of the dance scenes.

Ah I just realised the thread is about a different kind of 3D. I've only watched one anime that is 3D and that was Captain Harlock. Didn't like it at all when it came to the characters. The facial expressions looked wonky and it just felt weird. The spaceships and worlds looked very good though but I still prefer good ole Japanese 2D action.

I don't really mind as long as the quality is at a high standard. 3d anime may get some getting used to, though.

3D is to gimmicky for me. So no rather not rather it stay 2D.
CGI on the other hand I do not mind aslong as it is consistently used.

Gross!

Some CG in action scenes, like in Evanjelly movies, that looks cool (but, still, high class drawn animation looks so much better. It can rarely be afforded tho, lol.) But, please, please, please, don't touch the characters and bgs with your filthy 3D.

Ajin was fucking awesome and it was 3D. I like when anime are fully 3D or fully 2D, I don't like when they're mixed most of the time. I wouldn't mind if more and more anime started being made 3D since it's cheaper (and 3D fanservice would be nice) but I hope that it doesn't get to the point where 2D anime is a rarity.

cgi sticks out a lot, break immersion
Okay, there're amazing cgi but most anime use cheap cgi
Also, they use cgi in mecha anime,in the robots and it makes it cheap
and 3D series like Ajin and Sidonia look weird, like robots and some platic used like hair, without any facial expression
Let's hope cgi improves

For everyone saying CGI looks bad, it will get better overtime. Compare many shows from the early 2000s to today. Of course i'm not one from digital art but there's no denying the improvement in it.

aoki hagane is a good example for good 3d anime but in the end, it's depends on people's taste, and in conclusion for the voting, many people or most anime fans dislike anime with 3D/CGI animation. i suggest anime industry to prevent for making any 3d anime because it will not sale.

Until it gets better, many potentially good anime are going to have to suffer from poor CGI. Rip Berserk.

yeah, aoki hagane was CG and it fitted very well with naval combats
and i agree with you, full CG/3D anime won't get much support. However, imo, adding just a few 3D/CG scenes wont do any harm, like many anime recently have been doing : using CG for backgrounds, or few dance scenes (like in Love live).....soooo, i guess maybe people can get used to some 3D/CG scenes, but not full 3D/CG anime
