That was a beautiful ending :)
Even Orlo was nice ^^. Monsley and Dyce getting married seemed a bit fast though :P
Overall a great series, I'm giving this 8.5/10, but as I tend to round down in my list it's 8/10.

Perfect ending, it couldn't have been better in my opinion.

Everyone in High Harbor, the characters finally finding their place, the marriage, the resurrection of Barracuda and finally the sight of Remnant Island alongside the much-deserved happiness of Conan all build up this emotional ending that brought a tear to my eye.

Truly the conclusion of one of the most fantastic science-fiction and heart warming stories I've seen animated. And one of the earliest and best works of Miyazaki works to date.

A very solid 9/10, finding a place among my very best, often action-packed anime series =)

Now is one of those bittersweet moments where I'm happy it was good, but sad there's nothing more to see.

Disappointed that Dyce/Monsley went from unreciprocated flirting to wedding. Replacing character development with a time skip is in bad taste, especially if it's done to contrive an automatically cheery ending no matter the surrounding circumstances.

I'm glad the actual final scene was better. The same tidal waves and natural phenomenon that destroyed Industria shifted the environment enough to reveal a sunken continent. Specifically, the death of Industria gave life to Remnant island. And Conan, the person who saved people from destruction and moved them to this new land, began to fulfill his ambition to create a new, better civilization.

Great adventure, but for me the real attractions were Conan and Lana. Their relationship, and the characters themselves, are like experiments in absolute likability. It goes without saying their chemistry is perfect. When one makes a mistake, it is not annoying but endearing, since they take it in stride without angst. The two leads become better people for all their flaws because they're willing to admit mistakes, apologize, and improve.

Still my favorite part about them was their excitability, the way they freely created in each moment an opportunity to laugh. Both were intelligent, motivated by noble thoughts and constantly performing heroic deeds, but being kids were ultimately happier enjoying a nice ocean view together. That nice little OP song pretty much says says it: "Sing together, dance together, because you love the Earth so much. Because the dawn is so beautiful!"

Though this ending shot was a reprisal of so many predecessors, I loved it:

I admit this show has flaws. Miyazaki has never been great with endings. But I will never forget Conan and Lana as long as I live. Luthimal pegs exactly why. Beautiful ending, even with the time skip. I found myself wishing them all good luck.

I noticed, on my rewatch, that I liked Monsley a LOT more. I liked her character and understood her motives from her past my first time through, but this time, I really connected with her. She has gone through more pain and suffering than Conan and Lana, and I was glad she found some happiness with Dyce Senchou. I also noticed that they sort of had a thing even in the beginning.

God damn. I wish so much that I could have grown up with this show...

I interpreted it as a nice social commentary on why green way of living seems best for human beings... I think Miyazaki made this around the same time he was still a socialist.

Happy ending. I haven't seen a 10/10 series in probably around six or seven years but this show truly deserves one. What a perfect show. The characters, the pacing, the suspense, the romance... everything.

My first review, what a show...

This show was fantastically entertaining and full of excitement. The characters were very well developed. I loved Conan and Lana's relationship. They were just, off the bat, perfect for each other. You could tell from the time you met Monsley, something was going to change with her, not sure bad or good but something. I liked the turnout :) Also, I had a feeling Conan would return to Remnant Island. I don't know how you could not have enjoyed this wonderful show! I will remember it for sure, it is definitely a classic.

I didn't like that Orlo is a good guy after the terrible things he did. But otherwise, this ending was much better than I imagined and I'm glad all the characters stay together. This was a happy ending done right. Dyce ended up marrying Monsley instead of the ocean, lol.

And overall I was very impressed by this series. It had a simple yet really strong and solid story with great pacing, excellent animation and Conan x Lana is very cute. I didn't like the usual Miyazaki propaganda aspect, but I'll overlook it this time.

Ah, childhood, beloved childhood...
One more show that I watched as a kid but didn't remember so now my memories about it are fresh and clear.
Future Boy Conan is very fluid, it features an extensive philosophical story, deep evolving characters, gorgeous backgrounds and very creative action sequences that make the series feel like it’s a single very-long-but-would-still-watch-more top-notch movie. It steals everything that’s remarkable from The Incredible Tide, shows it in the background while even more interesting action and story takes place.
The only con would be some missed opportunities, some scenes could have a darker tone. The humorous and joyful scenes fit the anime in the most part, but I feel like it wasn't the right place in a few rare instances. Beautiful, and relaxing to watch. 8/10 would watch again.

Gosh, what a great ending to such a great series.
These characters are all etched into my memory so firmly already, so it's nice to see that there's a happy ending for them.

Apparently there's a sequel, but I'm worried about the quality of it. I think I'll watch it eventually, but I'll hold off for a while, keeping these good memories in-tact until then. :)

SO beautiful. Nothing signifies a new age then marriage and the offspring that come from it. Dyce and his crew falling in love and having kids was such a good thing to see. The resurrection of remnant island and all the good they'll do on that island, and it's expanded area making room for the following generations. Lana and Conan will get married one day, that's a given. And cute little Jimsy and his girl will too. For now, a happy ending and truly a new start for human kind.

now if only it didn't have hayao all over it cos seriously, i can't differentiate guy 1 from guy 30

one-dimensional villain is also a minus

and of course, every last episode of 70s-80s anime ends with someone getting superpowers (or a sudden spurt thereof)

still, conan and lana tho
best couple ever

It was sad to see Dr. Lao die, but we knew it was going to happen eventually. Without him, they would've never been able to save the world.

I didn't expect to see Dyce and Monsley get married, but apparently things worked out for them. Also, Orlo appears to be nicer now. I didn't think he would ever improve, but I guess anything is possible.

Looks like the continent that Remnant Island was on has risen from the sea, making things even better for all the people migrating there.

A great ending to a great Anime. Definitely a 10/10. I hope things eventually get worked out for this Anime to get licensed in North America, because it's a real shame that you can't buy this on Blu-ray/DVD where I live.

Rip Lao :(

This was a fantastic journey and I pretty much enjoyed every single second of it.

This show just had so much heart and one could really feel it.It was full of clevetr ideas, the character felt lively, the art and animation, as well as the soundtrack were excellent too. The whole package was just right and it ended in a very satisfying way.

It's a masterpiece in my book.

Why the hell is Orlo not in a jail cell? That just upsets me.

Monsley marrying Dyce is just....just doesn't fit.

And Remnant Island is now, Remnant country? Well I guess they deserve something after all of this.

8/10 for me.

Yeah I didn't like seeing Orlo happy and cheerful. Why would his character suddenly change? He was scum at his core. He wanted to rule over everyone just like Lepka. Ruined the happy ending every time they showed his face.

Also wasn't happy with the constant "bake ne".

Still, probably one of the best anime from the 70s and the one with the best animation.

Great anime, good ending overall. In agreement with most of the criticism I'm seeing here, it seemed weird for Monsley to marry Dyce. It was obviously just to have a marriage so they could have conan and lana there to be the obvious future married couple.

They should have just had it be one of the aunties and uncles pairing up. With monsley and dyce just being friends or something. Also Orlo Changing his ways, or at least superficially did feel forced but not as much as monsley and dyce.

I love the character of Monsley, and it was nice to see her get a happy ending after her redemption. Its just disappointing she got paired with Dyce, what about Luke.... ;) well a lot of good women do pick idiots, and she does continuously say “baka ne”

I wished the whole show could had wrapped on episode 23. more Lepka scenes were very difficult to watch (seriously why was his men was following him all along despite such nonsense ambition!). And Conan way too kickass that I ended up mixed feeling about him (after first half) as how absurd scenes he continuously could pulled off or less struggles. Sometimes his mature response kinda felt odd to watch give how he was on the first half. Enjoyed Dyce's character most lol. Thought Jimsy was cool too. Monsley was probably had the only multilayered character from the show.

overall the show did end up worth watching for the historical value. I can see lot of later shows were inspired from this or improvement upon it some way around like less action scenes. The pacing was very rough at beginning but picks up after 4 or 5 episodes.
Sometime did thought this show deserved a remake (Telecom could fit well especially on their works on PataPata or recent Lupin seasons) but the whole plot needs a big rewrite tho.

Despite any reservations I might have with Mirai Shounen Conan with its characters or story, in terms of audiovisuals, is a great anime. It's just everything else that I feel could have been better. To drive its themes better, I just wish the show could focus more on its technologies, societies, or love of nature. It feels imbalanced with its repetitive plots of Lana getting captured every other episode.

Such a bittersweet yet such a great ending with some real heartwarming shit, especially when seeing Conan, Lana, Dyce, Monsley, Jimsy, Tera and the others go back to Remnant Island to basically take habitation there and live and improve that place like how High Harbor was built from the ground up. Conan's finally home and his grandpa from heaven finally gets to see Conan with his lover, and his friends come home and live their lives there, almost like a passing of the torch moment.

Overall, this was one of the best anime I've seen in a long time that's a brand new binge and not a rewatch. You need to have a good amount of suspension of disbelief for some events that happen in the show, but overall, it was such a simplistic yet entertaining and interesting anime with lovable characters (especially Conan and Lana together) and a great conclusion too. Such a treat to watch this show, been a while since I binged a full anime that's 2 cour long in under a day.

Some more world building at times and a little reduction of the craziness with Conan and his capabilities would have increased the rating to a 9 for me, but regardless, old in this case is still gold.

And this is my 3rd favorite Hayao Miyazaki work of all time too, behind his Lupin: Castle of Cagliostro film as well as Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. For an anime from 1978, the animation was so full of charm and really detailed too, that I didn't mind Conan's craziness at times since it managed to extract the best of Miyazaki's talents as a director at that time before Studio Ghibli was even a thing.

8/10 overall.

I loved everything except the time skip; it seemed to come out of nowhere. Orlo is suddenly nice now with no explanation at all? I was looking forward to him getting what was coming to him and feel like I got cheated out of it. I would have really liked to see them actually arriving at High Harbor and at least some explanation for what happened while they were away. The ending was very nice though, and now there's plenty of room for everyone on Remnant Island.

Not sharing everybody's enthusiasms because to me this is easily the weakest thing that Miyazaki has done. It has plenty Miyazaki element's but it didn't really feel like Miyazaki anime.

I guess it makes sense because this seems to be his first real thing that he did.

Anyways. This was just way too repetitive and none of the characters were really all that memorable for me. The show does set itself apart in some regards but it didn't mean that the story was all that interesting.

26 episodes was way too much for this and maybe it would sat bit better with me if it had been shorter.

So glad I got to watch this series! It felt so warm and full of positive energy! Happy ending, natural and bright environments, lovable characters. Tell you the truth, I really needed that.

Two of Miyazaki's main themes were central here and you can easily see how important they have been for him, throughout his work: his love for nature and that sense of childhood wonder. That feeling that makes you want to go out and explore the world…

Conan is essentially Miyazaki's "superhero", or boy wonder. His own version of him. The embodiment of many of his ideals. My favourite character was Monsley, though. She was (by far) the most multilayered character of the series and the most interesting – that scene with the dog was probably my favourite and I wish we had spent more time with her.

Great series, all in all. Among my favourite from the 70s, almost on par with Lupin III and Ashita no Joe – and The Rose of Versailles taking the top spot.

This has nice animation and there was quality and effort put into it but I didn't really care for it. Every episode was just another a-hole villain trying to kill the kids. It was pretty miserable to watch, so much negativity it was actually just depressing to deal with. I think Monsley should've taken that bullet and died. She was one of the worst offenders. How many times did she try to kill, torture, or abuse Conan? She did not deserve a happy ending. Nothing she did redeemed her of her evil deeds. Just because she can pilot a plane and knew how to get to the control room to push a switch to open the shutter she's suddenly a hero? No, she was as awful as Lepka and deserved punishment/death. Even that pig rancher Orlo, why does he get a happy end as well? He's a traitor that threatened to kill the villagers. Why does every villain in this show get off scot-free, or even rewarded? Even Dyce was just a few episodes ago burning down Conan's tree hut with him inside of it like he was just killing no more than an insect. He even seemed happy to do it. Why's he considered one of the heroes again? Everyone was just so unlikable. Only Lana was nice, though a bit naive and dumb. All the rest of the cast was either straight up evil or annoying. I got so tired of Conan and looking at his gross feet. Just put some shoes on ffs.

Yeah probably in the minority here but this was a struggle to get through. I think it took me around 8 months just because each episode was so overbearingly negative I had to prepare myself ahead of time. Definitely not something I looked forward to seeing the next episode of, really. It's not what I would call "light" entertainment.

This has to be the most trashiest WTM show I have watched so far. I actually intrigued by its praise and high scores and yet I'm baffled with how the story goes on and how the characters are depicted. None of them environmental or nature issues being tackled. All they did is just to show off how a ridiculously overpowered kid could beat the bad people ass with mere cartoony actions flick but without any care the fact that he is just a freaking kid. I don't think beating one dimensional buffoons with the dream of conquering the earth with solar energy is a good plot. It's just plain goofy but I didn't find it funny at al but rather annoyed with how they portrayed all adults/ old generations are just dumb and evil while the kids having superpower, smart, strong and good kids. It's just too unbelievable to be an adventure drama let alone a show that are for kids to watch. So at the end of the day, they don't even try to find an alternative energy at all but rather living primitively in a remote land. The electromagnetic bombs that keep being shown in the beginning of each episode is never being touch upon. This might be the first time I really pissed on how Conan is written. It's plain cheap and lazy for not concerning the danger but only care for the bravado and triumph over evil force but dumb. So they are just stupid Newtypes all along. This show is simply a dumb show that try being serious but at the same time not really.
