Can't forgive the game for crippling the story, for the sake of multiplayer.

I'm not too far in, but so far it hasn't disappointed. Yes, the story isn't as deep as previous entries (VII and VIII come to mind), but I honestly haven't really cared. I admit I love the occasional 60+ rpg epic, but I can't honestly say that's what I want when it comes to a handheld game. In terms of the audience and the technology, Level 5 did a superb job with this one. I'm not too terribly far, but I've enjoyed every second of DQ IX.

But to each his own! There's always DQ X, right? :)

Well... hehhh..

I like the game! Don't get me wrong, I've derived enjoyment from this title for atleast 60+ hours! I just wish that.. the story wouldn't have taken the backseat for the sake of multiplayer.

In all honesty, it's kind of what I expected from a game that deals heavily on customization and multiplayer. They are just testing the waters to see what works for the franchise. Though I do agree with you that it should have had a more involving plot.

I understand where you're coming from. DQ games as of late have had pretty lengthy, involved plots (I assume since the SNES era games? I haven't played the remakes yet). I guess my stance comes from the fact that I expected a less involved story from the get-go.
