According to Yomiuri, members of Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly have been accused of spending public money for the policy affair research on irrelevant books including porn novels. Among them, Takahashi Masanari, 52 year old assemblyman, was found to have purchased Toaru Majutsu no Index vol.19 and Iruma Hitoma's light novel Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko vol.3. The assemblyman made an excuse that it was a legitimate expense to research the current trend of the world.

Majutsu is spelled wrong in the title.
But yeah, this is amusing. Not the best novel to spend public money on, but it could be worse.

I'd fire him for wasting public money on crappy novels. He could have at least got some well written stuff instead.

Somehow I don't find embezzling funds on novels as bad as using it for other things like expensive tacky furniture, hookers or fancy cars lol XD

What I wonder about more than anything else is why he had to spend money that wasn't his on something as cheap as a novel or two. Unless he bought a buttload of stuff off Amazon at the same time...

Better than buying it on a load of cars and second homes like in Britain...

True, at least that.

But wow, even Politicians are otakus now. We are really conquering this world. Good, about damn time.

But seriously... "The assemblyman made an excuse that it was a legitimate expense to research the current trend of the world." - Say what? That may be true, but come on! Who's gonna fall for that?

I laughed hard, and man, what a lame excuse for 51 year old. Why couldn't he just use his own cash? I don't think those things are that expensive...

I imagine they bought lots of other books and materials for cultural study as well, but there's really no reason to research manga at the assembly level to begin with (and I bet they get paid to read them at work while doing their research lol). If they honestly need this reasearch, it can be done by a third party (otaku advisor bwahaha) and summarized for them.

btw, the story also says that they are refuting the porn novel buying, since he never remembers the particular book and the way the receipts were matched might be mistaken... but I bet it was just bought by mistake.
