| I try to keep an open mind when it comes to things. Rejecting something because it's popular is just silly rejecting something because it doesn't suit your taste is fine but then if its popular you find all of a sudden you are in a minority and that's a hard group to be a part of so it can sometimes occur you want to be accepted you might change your taste or pretend to like something you don't just to fit in so you don't get a hard time, which is understandable. But you might find yourself being attacked for not staying true to yourself and that is an even worse battle to fight.If you lose you identity or at least the things you mostly identify as you or being close to you, you lose yourself so it's important to keep your identity even if it does at times seem like a curse of sorts. Having million of people hate you because you might like twilight is hard but then there are millions who like twilight that will stand by you why pretend to not like it just to fit in or reject it because it's mainstream. |

| Personally, I avoid those main-stream shows such as One piece and Naruto, just hearing those names make me wanna gag. I suppose it's since I've only seen them dubbed(horribly) on tv over here, and it's left a scar on me(lol). In fact, that's probably the main reason why I have such a bad impression of anime series that are popular or well-known in my neighborhood; they're adapted for an american audience D: So whenever I hear people here raving too much about certain shows, it tends to drive me away from wanting to see them. And another major factor is that I dislike generic shounen anime filled with fighting and all that jazz. Especially the ones that seem to never end. And for some reason those seem to be quite popular over here.... Oh, but most of the time I just randomly stumble onto shows regardless of their fan-bases(haruhi & lucky star big examples) and end up being hooked. |

| even though I love one piece,but i won't recommend to my friend. I rather recommend Anime such as like FMA, or other more normal Anime. One piece is a bit too extreme for one's taste.The story, Art, Animation, almost everything are too special.There are many Anime such as One piece, but it seem One piece is the only 1 which can pull of such a big risk. |

| I actually seek out Mainstream animes that arent all rom-com-moe shit, because I figure something must make them popular. Of course I start watching them TRYING to like them and not TRYING to not like them (which seems a popular approach to mainstream animes. Watching them, but actively expecting or even wanting them to be crap, while unknown animes are not suspect to too many expectations). So Yes, I watched many mainstream animes (often before I even knew it was "mainstream") and enjoyed most of them, but I wouldn't go all fanboy over them ^^. By the way I would like a definition of what is mainstream (besides naruto, bleach and one piece).. |

| It's a shame to not give something a chance just because it's mainstream or has retarded fans, because chances are they might not be too bad after all. They could very well be over-hyped, but not necessarily completely worthless. Even if I turn out to not like it, at least I have my own opinion as to why I don't like it rather than just because I want to be different. I'll admit, though, I've avoided many things just because I think it's overhyped, but I don't go around telling people how awful it is just based on things I've read or heard if I haven't actually experienced it myself. |
