Kodansha announced that Kawashima Tadashi, the story author of manga Alive, passed away on June 15th due to liver cancer. He was 42 years old.
When the cancer was found, he was in the middle of Alive serialization. However, Kawashima kept on writing the story and finally completed the series while struggling against the illness. He was eager to start a new series.
R.I.P. Mr. Kawashima. Like nextday said I know it must have taken some real dedication to finish the manga while he was battling liver cancer. It is sad that he died before he could start a new series but I hope he was content with what he had accomplished. I'll check out his manga next time I'm in the book store and I too hope he's in a better place.
so sad... too bad they didn't animate it while he was still alive, it kept being pushed. At least it was probably very fulfilling for him to have finished the manga. I put it on my PTR list, it sounds really interesting.
It's always sad when a Manga Artist passes away, since we won't see their art styles anymore. Especially if it was unique. I never read Alive but it still saddens me when a Manga Artist dies, at a young age too. At least he was able to finish what he started. RIP!
That's shocking. I couldn't believe he passed away. I followed his blog not long ago and he didn't mention about his cancer. Or did he? Glad he finished writing Alive though. Hopefully Alive can be animated soon.
