Am i the only one who rewatches an anime that aired some time ago, when the sequel is airing?
For example i'm rewatching Bunny girl senpai and my dress up darling (i watched both of them at least a year ago) befor i start with the sequels next season.

No, at most I watch an official recap of the prequel, if it exists.

Sometimes, but not always, only if I really want to or I remember close to nothing [while wanting to rewatch it]

If I have no desire to spend my time to rewatch something I just hope there's either an official recap or a YT one. If no, I hope for my memory to work while watching the show XD

@Zarutaku How long of a gap would it have to be for you to rewatch it? ofcours with no recap.

My memory is bad, so i almost always rewatch the prequels before new seasons, it's more enjoyable this way. Not like there are so many new enjoyable anime, so that I don't have time for it...

Before i would have said never, but now, it depends on the anime, how long ago it was since i watched it and how much i remember from it, for example, i will rewatch Ao no Exorcist, Enen no Shouboutai, Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, Shokugeki no Souma and Steins;Gate before watching their sequels, but i won't be rewatching Bungou Stray Dogs or Spy x Family, for example.

Only if my friends want to join me for the sequel and they haven't seen the previous stuff, by myself though rarely since I usually remember enough to not need a refresher.

I did rewatch My Dress-Up Darling recently to refresh my memory, but I generally don't do a rewatch before a sequel because I... forget (I mean, I intend to but there always seems to be something else I want to watch haha).

@ApfelMyName I wouldn't rewatch it, regardless of the gap, but if I forgot what happened in the prequel, then I would read a summary.

I usually don't watch it, I only watch it if there is a summary episode.

Yes, depending on how recent the last season was, how well the plot stuck in my brain, or if I loved it enough to want to rewatch it.

Like for this summer I rewatched Yofukashi no Uta, KanoKari, Seishun Buta Yarou, and My Dress Up Darling, but I am not rewatching DanDaDan, Dainanaoji, or Hanako-kun (I did rewatch season 1 before season 2 part 1 though)

I like rewatching anime (I mean rewatching every anime I believe it might be better than I remembered, not the same anime 5-10 times), but rarely because a sequel is coming out.

Frieren is the only anime I plan to rewatch right before the new season comes out, I'm curious to see if it will hold up.

Very rarely. But I do when it's convenient, like now that I'm rewatching Sono Bisque Doll S1 on Muse Asia as they've been uploading its episodes on YT everyday so, I just play it on background.

Rarely, if the previous season took place so long ago that I don't remember what happened I might. (Like a decade ago) That would just be excuse though, since as soon at I start watching the next season I'll remember the last one right away.

Usually I do rewatch before a sequel but it depends a bit on the type of show, the amount of time passed after watching the prequel and my overall investment in it. An episodic comedy does not really need a rewatch but an anime with a more complicated story may do.

For example I did not rewatch Wind Breaker S1 before watching S2 because the story is simple enough not too much time had passed and my personal investment was not high. Re:Zero however checked all three boxes so I rewatched S1 and S2 before watching S3.

From the upcoming summer 2025 season I am going to rewatch Yofukashi no Uta due to high investment despite a more simple story and having watched S1 a year ago. I am not going to rewatch Dandadan and Panty & Stocking because I watched them recently and Kaiju 8-gou because I am not overly invested in it and it having a simple story.

Depends on how long ago it was since I watched the original show and if I loved the first season. If it's a long as shit show I won't.

Not really but I probably should since since recently I watched a few continuing series like the third season of Fire Force only to not remember much that happened in the previous seasons...only bits and pieces. However, I have too many things I need to watch that I just don't time for it.

Only if it's been a long time (7+ years) and I need to refresh my memory. I've been rewatching Boueibu in prep for the movie since I haven't properly watched it since 2016.

Depend the show and my interest in the sequel. I rewatched darling because its easier to see pop on crunchyroll afterwards but I rewatch bunny senpai to go with all the movies before watching the new season. But shield hero is not guarantee i rewatch all 3 seasons before season 4 or reincarnated as a vending machine.

Sometimes I watch youtube summaries, specially when the plot is a bit complicated. I also do it for manga in my hold on list that I want to continue, but dont want to re-read from the beginning. But Im open to rewatch it if theres a new season in process. rarely, but could happen

"Do you rewatch before a sequel?"

Yes, The Angel Next Door is my way-to-go for rewatches whenever I feel down and want to heal my soul because of how wholesome and sweet this anime is. It's one of the most pure romance anime I've ever watched.

Love is War is also a nice choice to rewatch if I need to laugh - nothing beats this in terms of comedy, and it has just received a sequel too.

I think about this when I watch new anime shows seasonally but I don't?

The first and only time I attempted to re-watch prior to sequels were a few seasons of the Fate series?
At the time, I saw a lot of people said it's recommended to get some shows down to understand it the newer titles.
When I look back on this experience, it was nice sure, but I don't have the time anymore to uh.....re-watch shows

No, never. There's just too many sequels for that to be practical. For example, I have 9 sequels to watch from this upcoming summer season alone.

More often than not, the details start coming back to me as I watch the sequel. If I find that's not the case, I'll very occasionally find a decent recap on YouTube. I did that recently with the second season of Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon, and it was all I needed to refresh my memory.

Yes, it depends on when the prequel last dropped, how much I remember off the last time that I watched it, and if I simply want to.

Sometimes, but not often. There are two cases. The first is when the sequel is released quite a long time after the previous one. The second is when I watched the Thai or English subtitles a long time ago and later rewatched the Thai dubbed version before the sequel was released. However, I won't say which anime I rewatched.

I always want to but whether or not I end doing so is another question. I really only got into heavy seasonal watching last year so it has been becoming increasingly relevant to me now. There are some sequels on the horizon and I feel like I forgot much of what the previous season was about. ^^;
