Broadcast company Adult Swim announced during their Studio Focus stage at Annecy Festival that a second and third season of Ninja Kamui is in production on Thursday. The second season will be titled Ninja Kamui: Red Vendetta.

Produced by E&H Production, the 13-episode television anime began airing in February 2024. Adult Swim streamed the anime with English subtitles and an English dub in the United States.

Ninja Kamui received a prequel video game titled Ninja Kamui: Shinobi Origins, which was released in May 2024 for the Nintendo Switch.

Synopsis
Seemingly an average man, Joe Logan leads a peaceful life in the countryside with his wife and child. However, the Logan family have actually assumed false identities to escape from Joe's past as a fearsome ninja assassin. Despite a string of high-profile murders of his former peers, Joe is sure that his new life is secure—but his tranquil bliss is soon shattered when his family is slaughtered by members of his former clan.

Left for dead, Joe wakes up in a hospital, unsure of how he survived the wounds that should have killed him. Police detectives Emma Samanda and Mike Moriss, assigned to investigate the Logan family's deaths, witness another attempt on Joe's life. However, this time Joe is prepared. Unleashing secret techniques, he easily dispatches his enemies, shedding his new identity in the process.

Embracing his old ways, Joe shrouds himself in his former persona, cutting through the organization he once served in the name of cold-blooded revenge. Assisted in his hunt by the detective duo, Joe will stop at nothing to kill his past and the demons hailing from it. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I'm not surprised. It was bound to happen after getting the Crunchyroll award. But I'm rather confused. How can they announce two seasons altogether? Will season 2 & 3 air at the same time? Did that ever happen before?

So it's not a hoax this time. I'm still wondering how they are going to continue the story.

I'm confused. Maybe it was really popular on Adult Swim, I don't know, but it was mid as fuck. Continuing it not only with a second season but a third is wild.

@Rom-Com_lover "Shield Hero" was also announced to be receiving 2 additional seasons after the first concluded. It's not that common with anime, I think, but it happens. I guess the show was popular/successful enough that they ordered 2 seasons instead of one (Or two split cours that they just happen to market as two seasons). They won't air at the same time, it just means a third season will come some time later.

This trainwreck gets a second season, while I'm still waiting for a D-Frag second season to be announced one day. Well, I'll watch it. And I did like a couple of episodes of the first season. Just hope they ditch the armoured suits for the second season.

Even though Kamui ended up becoming one of my least favorite animes, I'm kinda looking forward to the pain of watching more. A sick fascination of wanting more, if you will. I do enjoy catching shows on Adult Swim/Toonami as they air for nostalgia reasons also.

Good news! I like the series and it was left at cliffhanger. Let's wait for two seasons to watch!

Ninja Kamui was good when the fighting actually featured ninjas until it became Mecha Kamui, those mech suits were such an unnecessary addition to the show. Also, I'm pretty sure season 1 wrapped up rather conclusively so where do we go from here lol.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Apparently the series pulled in major viewership stats on both Toonami and HBO Max. The first 3-4 episodes were actually amazing stuff, and I'm sure that's what aided in viewer retention at the start. It's rumored that there was a steep drop off in audience count after the heelturn to a mini mecha anime, but at that point the studio had all the numbers they needed to pitch more seasons to investors.

If they don't drop in quality like they did in season one, it is going to be good.
