What?! This really came out of the left field!!! Anything can happen nowadays, huh! :D

I have the original anime in my PTW for a long time now, maybe that's the cue to watch it sooner rather than later.

@EcchiGodMamster It's not a remake, it's a sequel.

Currently still watching the original anime, and it's okay so far. Nothing special. Interesting to see it get a sequel decades later.

This is the third or fourth revival of the ancient Sunrise franchise in the last couple of years. Are the guys really upping their game these days?

I don't see how this is a sequel rather than a full on reboot/remake. The original armors were destroyed during the Legend of the Inferno Armor OVAs. Then they got new armors in the Message OVAs. It seems like the red armor character is a new one since he doesn't look anything like Ryo. Either that or Ryo got a redesign. The new armors seem to have similar helmets to the Message armors but the torsos seem closer to that of the original armors.

@SuperDuperKnight They could just cancel the OVA and make the second season a direct continuation. So, do some kind of soft reboot.

@RobertBobert I honestly feel like they should just do a full reboot. The original series certainly had its flaws but it had a pretty conclusive ending with all of its loose ends tied up.

@SuperDuperKnight Do you think that if they made a direct sequel after 35 years, it might suffer too much from the "we're still relevant, damn!" attitude? You know, when showrunners are afraid that reviving a classic will be too uninteresting for a modern audience, so they start cramming as many modern period pieces into the show as possible.

@RobertBobert I don't know. It could go in any direction at this point. The original series didn't really delve too much into that sort of stuff so I don't see how it would in this new series but you never know.

@SuperDuperKnight Well, I've never watched the show, but for some reason it kind of reminds me of the old amerime about isekai, a group of American football players who become King Arthur's knights.

@RobertBobert In the original series, the backgrounds of the characters are rarely talked about. They just show up already having their armors and ready to fight.

@SuperDuperKnight After watching the openings or transformations on YouTube I can say it's not quite what I expected (I miss the cheesy synth music and light music in the spirit of gatcha's cards, but this 16-bit animation style design looks stylish), but maybe I should give it a try as a Transformers Headmasters fan?

Either way, maybe we'll get a SSSS Gridman-style reimagining, where the pure action gets more depth thanks to a more modern psychological plot?

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

What, no way. Had no idea a sequel was being made! Thanks for the news OP. I remember watching Ronin Warriors as a kid.

One of my childhood anime that I never finished (thanks to irregular airing times on TV in Asia) got a sequel after tons of years...it's quite sudden. Still need to finish the original show but I'm not sure how this new one will feel like compare to the original. Pretty sure music alone will be different than the original judging by the teaser.

That wasn't on my bingo card at all. I guess this is my excuse to finally watch the original.
