Do you go to Anime conventions? How many times?

Yesterday, I went to my second Anime convention. My first Anime convention was in 2018. This was my second one but the first one as a full-time weeb. It's been fun. I buy things and ppl were cosplaying characters from One Piece, HxH, Demon Slayer, Kuroshitsuji, Saiki K.

Positives things:
-Contrary to the annoying stereotype which I hate its associate with us, no one seem to smell bad.
-Rare Anime merch and the best part not being overpriced.
-Place was huge and people were nice.
-Lots of cosplayers even if I expected characters from popular series, I didn't expect people cosplaying characters from Saiki K.
-The show was pretty nice.

Negative things:
-The place was crowded despite the place itself was huge.
-Never go to Anime conventions early except if you only go for the show, it's better to buy Anime merch when the place isn't too crowded. All stands were still there 1 hour before the convention was over.
-Be careful where you keep your money, I don't know if someone stole it or if i dropped it somewhere since I couldn't find it anymore. The lost money was in another pocket. It seems to me I dropped the money somewhere since they didn't steal my entire wallet with more money or my phone. It wasn't too much money anyways but it was so weird.
-Some stands don't give you proper bags or they are in bad conditions.

I went a few times and then i realized most people who go to these kinda events are usually people who watch mainstream anime only and not the kind of people i wanna be associated with so i never went anymore after that, went between 2012-2019, after covid conventions lost their charms and became purely commercial which is not something i care about since i don't buy expensive anime figurines anyway, maybe occasional dvd or bluray but never toys.

Admittedly i've been to more Comic Cons than Anime ones (from my experience there's not a great difference between them, you see Anime merch and cosplayers at both).

I was literally at this Comic Con yesterday, this guy filmed it.

We also get 3 free Comic Cons a year where I live in Ellesmere Port, been to 10 of them in total now.

I think their fun places, but definitely need to be with more people to enjoy it. I just go by myself as nobody else in my family likes Anime. I found myself rather bored at this latest one, it was also pretty confusing as there was no schedule sheets passed around, I actually missed some stuff that I didn't know was going on because of this.
I also agree that merch is usually pretty expensive, and the room with the stalls here were packed with people, even more so when it rained outside.
I've also never experienced bad smells at any of these events (true I live in a mild/cold country though) ๐Ÿคฃ that seems unnecessarily rude and harsh ๐Ÿ˜‚

I used to go all the time, now I go once a year. They aren't perfect, like any commercial event, but they are fun anyway.

By the way, the how many times is how many times we have gone to conventions in total or how many times we go per year?

Rarely nowadays because the entrance fees have skyrocketed in price. It's actually kinda ridiculous.

I went semi regularly before covid. Since then I kinda fell out of the habit. But I had been thinking recently I need to get back to it. I miss the atmosphere of being surrounded by so many anime fans, and meeting awesome people.

I love anime conventions! Great excuses to cosplay, Window shop, and get away from the usual grind of work. Mileage varies wildly on the con though, some are just boring.

No, even if I wanted to go to one there's never any that are close by. I'll eventually probably go to one just for the experience, but that's about it.

I go to one that we have here every year in my state. It's a small Mom and Pop shop style convention, but we really enjoy what we have. I even was able to cosplay a little bit and do the Haruhi theme dance. So for that alone it was worth it.

Anime conventions are not worth visiting. They aren't worth the time nor effort.

never we don´t have that in the country im From we use to have one but it died like every other good thing we had. Conventions dies, Games stores died, Everything fun going away because we need to save money to give to the rich or send away to another country. They even close down schools and hospitals left and right. During 2014–2023 around 370 schools have been shut down. sense 1961, 39 hospitals closed down today we have 57 and more shut downs are planed.

And when how high rents for everything is becoming no one wanna make conventions for 2-3 days where they probably have to charge you 200-500 bucks fee just to afford to host the event.

I been on 1 anime conversations once in my life and it will most likely never ever happen again ever.

I really, really enjoy anime. But having said that, I feel zero desire to buy anime merch or socialize in person with other anime fans. I'm OK with just dropping anime GIFs on somebody's MAL wall to completely fulfill my anime socialization needs lol.

I went to Fanime twice in my teenage years and the 2nd annual Crunchy Roll convention several years ago?

It was nice for a first experience, but looking back the prices are too much?
I bought a handful of things from figures to keychains and a few posters that got lost over the years

As much as I like Anime themed merchandise, my price conscious was present the whole time?
I was unwilling to pay this much money when I knew I could use that money for other things

Attending the events were cool like going to mobile game meetings for FGO and all, but it's just a one time thing

There are no anime conventions to speak of in my country, and those events that "slightly" (and I stress slightly) resemble anime conventions only have as guests the people who locally voiced animes or made localized anime songs, of who I couldn't care less even if I tried.

In terms of conventions specifically focused on anime/manga, I've been to Anime North at the Toronto Congress Centre twice. In terms of more general conventions that happen to feature anime/manga-related panels and/or guests, I've been to Fan Expo at the MTCC several times.
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.

I go to them all the time. 10+ times a year is a major underestimate. I often go to multiple per month. So far I've only been to local ones, though. I'd like to branch out to going to ones further away at some point. I like cosplaying and chilling with my friends there. I also have friends who host panels and it's good to support them. I'm going to 2 conventions this weekend.

YES!!! They're fun, but I also need an objective. Like to preform, find something, meet new people, or participate in an event. Make each experience unique! I have a laundry list of all the animanga cons I want to attend both in and out of the states!

I never went to one, but I did go to a comic con in Detroit back in the '80s, because I heard they might have manga and anime. It was boring AF. almost all boxes of comic books for sale. No such thing as cosplayers back then. Not enough interest to bring in any speakers or have any events. There was one guy there with a box of VCR tapes that looked like he made in Mom's basement. We left quick and went to the casino instead.
