@WaterMage I mean, I loved it, it was a lot of fun. But it was definitely a change of pace.
@jal90 that's good that you can enjoy even if it's generic. But many can't.

I never even knew it was a controversy when I watched only found out later. Just why.

@jal90 I don't thin Frieren owes us to be original or explore deep moral concepts, but maybe not making the amoral demons 100% human looking would have been a good idea in the current climate where dehumanizing other ethnicities/believers/political opponents is coming back full force. It did leave a bad taste.

@WaterMage The main problem with the demon arc is that it completely changes the tempo of the anime, in a way that does a disservice to its theme. Prior to the demon arc, we're following that 1000 yo character who's trying to make sense of what it means to form bonds and how to deal with grief when you outlive others. The show went at Frieren's rythm, and eps were spaced months, if not years apart, because that's her perception of time, while humans frantically try to achieve as much as possible with their short lifespans.

Then the demon arc happens and this very interesting and original tempo completely crumbles and gets replaced by your standard action-focused narration that absolutely murdered the atmosphere and uniqueness of the show. I had some hope we'd go back to what made Frieren cool after that, but sadly the exam arc went the exact same way. It should have just happened off-screen between two eps, especially considering how unpolished and uninteresting magic is in Frieren.

@Deathko why Freiren have to maintain a balance to please anyone. Political climate irl should have no influence on entertainment media. I absolutely HATE this. Because of this political influence I lost all respect on Hollywood. Freiren is Freiren. A fantasy not irl. If you draw similarity it's on you.

The main journey with the person she is trying to connect with was to kill demons and save humans. It was established from start what demons are and why the needed to be contained. So I don't think it's out of place.

Exam arc isn't as well recieved but I liked it well enough. New cast was intresting on there on.

People can have opinions but I find this so ridiculous.

That's not a problem though, it's one reason why Frieren became so successful: a near perfect balance of easily digestible action and profound slice of life.

@Fukoku Phantom Blood having a pretty subpar adaptation in the anime next to a great adaptation of Battle Tendency doesn't really help its reputation. The manga I think of Phantom Blood was pretty good but the anime crippled it by cutting out content (like Danny's whole backstory) and having a very weird ugly artstyle that does not correspond with the one from the manga.
@Ranpy

On that part I understand the criticism against Phantom Blood.
If I had to choose between One Piece and a girlfriend...I think I'll go with One Piece

@Deathko orcs don't look 100% human looking and that didn't stop millenial grifter from yapping about how they are black people and problematic etc. the premise you are building here is nonsensical as the "evil race" is the root issue y/a;; hjave wit it and the implication that if frieren had more monsterish looking evil races then there would be no outrage has no basis !

@_ohara worst take of all time award. jojo part 1 and 2 are monster of the week and they include shitty training arcs and 2 even has generic ahh shounen rematches. you only assume they aren't because the parts were too shitty for araki to make them full length ergo they are nothing beyond a quick kenshiro ripoff.
@zoomerReviewer 0/10 bait from coomerReviewer once again. Fack off lol

I wonder why native English speakers have such a huge problem with the German "ie" that they constantly need to replace it with "ei".
