| 100% speaking of episode 25 of Evangelion, the final episode, on the contrary, it completely cuts out the general audience that isn't an otaku type. Evangrlion is for the otaku audience. the reason shinji was hated by millenials is because they weren't otaku. Someone with a "normal life" wouldn't get Shinji. The reality is that this generation has no future ergo we caught up to Japan's cynical reality of the 1990s following their economic crash. An American in 1995 who related to Shinji was a loser of the lowest, while the entire Japanese audience immediately understood Shinji because he was quite "literally them." Someone in big 2025 that relates is common but it can't be to the degree of the Japanese otaku generation of the 80s-90s. Someone with a normal life would not understand the lesson of Evangelion as they would not need it in the first place. |

@Kisaragi_Toka the religious theme is what makes it. I don't quite accept that it's "just" aesthetics in that the aesthetics are very important. It's a visual media, after all.
