WWWave Corporation's Deregula animation label announced a television anime adaptation of Yakiniku Teishoku's Android wa Keiken Ninzuu ni Hairimasu ka?? (Does It Count If You Lose Your Virginity to an Android?) manga and revealed a key visual (pictured) on Tuesday. The anime is scheduled to premiere in 2026.

Yakiniku Teishoku began serializing the girls love sci-fi manga in Comic Yuri Hime magazine in July 2021. Ichijinsha published the fifth volume in September 2024, with the sixth volume scheduled to go on sale on May 16. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in July 2022 and released the fifth volume on April 15.

Synopsis
Office Lady Tsuda Akane, age 28, seems like she's got it all together. Beautiful, brainy, and an indispensable office worker for a robotics manufacturer, Akane's admired at work...because her colleagues can't see her at home. Privately, Akane's a hot mess with an apartment that looks more like a landfill than a living space. Good thing she drunkenly ordered a new android named Nadeshiko to help her clean up! Well, maybe not good, because the beautiful lady android that arrives is a horny hottie. Akane's about to get more service than she expected! (Source: Seven Seas Entertainment)

I wasn't expecting to see this get an anime but hopefully the adaptation will do it justice (Though the studio behind it doesn't seem to rate particularly highly)

And if this can get an anime then that's more hope that Kitanai Kimi ga Ichiban Kawaii can get one yet

Why is WWWave credited as the studio on MAL?
On the announcement they were only credited with Production (製作)

Another show where the only draw is that the characters are gay. Girls and Boys love should be a sub genre of romance only, not the defining genre of an anime. It's a little pathetic honestly, the fans will lap up anything with LGBT in it these days. Gimme a break already.

Can we get some gay anime where it's not a song and dance about being gay already? Whether that be the characters themselves or the creators projecting?

The main (human) character actually isn't established as a lesbian at the start of the story, and the main (android) character is just following her programming. The romance builds out of their time together and it's more coincidental that they both happen to be women. I kinda feel like some of the setup is a commentary on Japanese work culture, really. Akane is giving it her all and appearing at her best for her job and has no energy to really keep up her own household, let alone have a love life. A classic case of living to work.

@nx6 I could say that the Japanese have slightly different views on sexuality, which is why animanga depictions can often be confusing to Western viewers. For example, otokonoko stories are not considered BL because otokonoko are perceived as female characters. But from the looks of it, it's just yuri ecchi without any deeper thoughts.

@mshfqtny So, does the erotica tag just mean heavy ecchi, but not hentai shows?

Yeah, I'm not really arguing this is any grand story. It is a yuri ecchi. But the manga does start out as "frazzled workplace overachiever can't get the drive to clean up (and could use a release for her mental tension)". But her mind goes immediately to buying a robot to handle the housework and not, maybe, slowing down a little to enjoy the fruits of her labor. The fact the android meets her needs in *cough* other ways was not really a goal, and romance is building past that.

There have been a few studies done lately showing more acceptance from young people regarding relationships with AI and robotic beings, so this manga is a reflection of changing attitudes in the target demographic (and many young professionals in Japan who might be in similar situations of wanting companionship but not having the time to really meet and date people). Just being able to order a gf/bf online is going to resonate with a generation that grew up with Amazon.

@nx6 I don't see a problem with robotic romance. We have a lot of shows about straight relationships with robots, so what's the problem with having at least one lesbian one? Yes, I know that yuri bait with robots was already in the past, but still. Plus, judging by Gushing over Magical Girls and the overall ecchi trend, we're on the verge of the second peak of ecchi yuri after the 00s.

I sincerely hope they will trim some chapters because the source material get repetitive and stale waaaay to many times to count. Very excited to see what they will do and I also hope they will make the anime as erotic as the source material and don't censor

@Oppai_Loli_God Normally I would agree with you if this was made by Americans and especially Americans in California but Japanese mangakas and studios ain't like that. And this anime/ manga is not an exception.

i don't know why you're asking me this but anyways, hentai is when they show dicks and erotica is when they don't. That's what it is for mal i think.

@mshfqtny In that case, I think the erotic tag would somewhat duplicate the ecchi tag, since hentai without a direct jump into pornography is usually called borderline hentai in the community.

@yuritheknight Is this manga still being published? I last checked it was about half a year ago. But yeah, while the brothel/sex worker yuri subgenre is incredibly broad, we haven't gotten any adaptations of it yet.

hentai is basically porn. But for example, you wouldn't call fifty shades a porn. But it is more than just a simple fanservice. In that case, what would you call it? So I guess 'erotica' are like those that are not that graphic to be called hentai but neither too soft to be a simple ecchi. Ecchi is like some nudity, some fanservice but they are not really all about sexual things whereas eroticas are about that but not on the level of porn.

@yuritheknight Well, I won't mind. Yuri that doesn't try to be stuffy or quality ecchi is always welcome.

@mshfqtny I'm just saying that erotica and ecchi are interchangeable as the European and Japanese versions of the same thing. It's like we have two tags for yuri at the same time, depending on the different levels of sexuality...oh yeah.
