One thing i love is primitive game consoles and forgotten video formats

In the late 90's, you had the Game.Com, a god awful console with some decent PDA features like a calender, phone book and even internet access (text only and with a cable)

Remember Palm Pilots? They were like Smart Phones before Smart Phones. You had lots of features like above, but there was no calling.

CED's, the ugly love child between a laster disc and a record. It was locked in a case you couldn't open and would be inserted into the player straight from the case. A total failure.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Do you watch Techmoan and also Technology Connections? Lol They both focus on niche technology a lot.

You can still get PDAs but many modern ones run Android so they are like a smartphone without the phone aspect but they also tend to have a flip out QWERTY keyboard.

LightScribe is kinda cool. You can burn images onto discs. I got ahold of an old laptop with one in it but sadly the laptop died and I don't have the tools to diagnose what part is stopping it from being able to power up.

Sony MiniDisc seems cool. Never seen one in person. Data cassettes seem kinda neat too. Also mini hard drives are pretty amusing to me they used to use them in things like the original iPod.

I like the look of nixie tube displays and VFDs. Though those arent so unique.

There is so many different old tech I like

I always thought phonographs were pretty fascinating, especially the ones you have to crank yourself.

Cool! I've never heard of that one before, but my own example is also from ancient Greece.

It's an automatic door. It failed to catch on because everyone preferred asking slaves to open doors.

VCDs: I first got a few in a bundle along with my Philips CD-i. Their a precursor I guess to DVDs, but quality-wise their not much different to VHS. I have a sort-of soft spot for them. I like their designs and that their easier to store (so long as their 2 disc ones), I also never realised how many machines could actually play them back in the day. I thought it was just certain game consoles, but many CD players could play them too. I'm starting to collect them again now.

Electronic personal organisers: I had a few kid versions of these when I was younger. Could never really figure out what they were for exactly? and I couldn't get mine to do much other than save phone numbers. I still liked them though and just wonder what happened to them? as they were popular at one point.

I think I'll say CED too actually. I've only found out about them recently and I've even seen a player and discs in the flea market here. I was tempted to buy it, but I don't think I'd enjoy it (if it even worked). The playback looks to frustrating to watch, even with ones in perfect condition. Cool idea and machines though I guess?

@Lucifrost To be fair it looks like a very bulky and expensive installation to just have a door open and close so slave made more sense despite the morals. Yes I just made an argument for slavery. I'll need to ask my priest if this is something I'll need to go to confession for.

OT:
TOGGLE LOCKS!
Toggle locks are cool, steampunky and effective.
They are also expensive af which is why we don't like them anymore.

@Retro8bit I was thinking about that too!

Also, more craft-tech merged industries, but the silkworm industry and the textile shell industry are now forgotten and lost.

We also have people building medieval castles like in times of old, and I always found the glass-maker very interesting.

Not even mentioning the goldsmith/silversmith; I kinda dreamt of being one younger.

Interesting, what areas of the world are still building castles? I guess it goes to show that some styles never go out of fashion.

Also I always found it fascinating that cars from the 1920s needed to be cranked in order to start.

@Retro8bit Some people are Middle Age fanatics. Some of them have eaten, slept and work for years to live the middle age life and build a castle the old ways.. It was voluntary work at first, but I think they had small public funds over time. Truly passionate people.

Wow! Never knew it had a history like that. Yes I agree you can tell these individuals are definitely passionate about their work. Would be so awesome to see them in person someday if I ever got around to doing so someday.

pagers were peak detective tech in old-school mystery anime, tiny devices carrying hints , clues and dying messages.
forgotten technology like ticket punching machines like Mechanical Ticket Punchers Railway conductors used them to validate tickets once essential, now relics of a different era.
Rotary Phones, it was so exiting Dialing numbers with a spinning wheel.
