Here I am, still shamelessly tagging everyone who played in my thread: @Auron @Nette @Absurdo_N @User8492 @HokutoMumyoZan @Eldinis @149597871 @Noboru @Zarutaku @traed @KittenCuddler @Freshell @gongaskino @deg @Retro8bit @Purple_Gh0st24 @Kisaragi_Toka @RainyEvenings @Zakatsuki_ @Commit_Crime @KatanaCast

Do you think you would ever want to make your own roleplay thread at some point, or is it something you don’t see yourself doing? Looks like @Auron might be interested in making one, and I hope he does, as he seems to have a good prose (and it'd be really hard to do worse than me). I’d really like to be on the player side, even if my previous victims would likely get revenge against me and kill me in all kinds of fashions. So, what do you say?

No, since I am bad at it apparently. I tend to be too busy minded to do anything interesting.

@traed That's too bad, you're the one actual user who should have the biggest urge for revenge after how your corpse was desecrated.

@Nette It does require a lot of time. I sacrificed most of my weekend to run my thread, and it somehow felt like I worked all weekend long. It was fun work, though.

Kinda weird that I'm not as I think I have great imagination and creativity, just not for roleplaying though I guess?

I am making that 5th (final) atlantis thread for gong, user, you and wizdom but I have a shit load of uni stuff to do so its taking long. Your thread was good but you took on way too much as a GM. For forums and stuff like that its better to want one final input from each player for every round. F.e. how I asked you for a five year plan and a budget instead of RPing what the government will do for 5 years. There is a reason for why people gather in one place for DnD, it requires a lot of attention to from everyone involved. On the other hand, the simplest forum/chat/imageboard game was always map claims because it literally just requires every player to select a province/provinces every round and the GM doesnt have to do much except boot up paint.net after every round

I'm afraid I don't really have the creativitiy or mind or leisure to do those kinds of forum RP games. The big issues with those kinds of games is that there is no set rule when you can expect people to respond, sometimes story develops different just because someone was sleeping in RL because it was like the middle of the night for them or they didn't have time to first consult themselves before giving an official response in the thread. Then it was not clear first if every player gets to know the information from the game master or not. Perhaps, if you ever plan another one, you could message them directly in private.

But all in all, I think a club with actually interested members or a Discord server is better suited for those kinds of things. From what I can remember @philtecturophy has mentioned that he's done some RP clubs/threads in the past, maybe he can share some advice here

Now do I feel like I’d want to try making my own roleplay thread someday? Not really.

I like micro-managing to make money. I'm not great at micro-managing for pleasure-related purposes like story-based roleplaying.

@Noboru thanks for mentioning my name in this interesting thread
I had been long involved in MAL roleplay, and had created 2 roleplays clubs in MAL. But here is the best one, and I dare to say probably the best, also the last roleplay club in MAL

https://myanimelist.net/clubs.php?cid=82819

Best in terms of MAL forum graphics, stories, battle mechanics, and much more

I'm not advertising my club here since it is already dead, and I don't plan to revive it. But if anyone is interested, just check out the Guide Book section and other threads in the club to really get the feel of the complexity as well as beauty of the world building there.

My advise for making roleplay club in MAL for now is:....Simply Don't!!

Why?
Because MAL clubs are generally dead these days, be it RP clubs, card making clubs, and other casual chatting clubs, all dead. If you are interested in making RP, use other forums.

Advise for making RP clubs: I can't really think much right now, other than making some good visuals are important to make the players really get the feel of the RP environment and it's relations to the characters. Battle mechanics are also important, its the gameplay, and some players in my club are very invested and enjoyed the battle mechanics, which made them stay quite a while when the club was still active years ago.

Why my club was dead?
Because there was a time where I cannot moderate it anymore, since my chronic pain got worse, so then the admins also become disappointed and resigned one by one, so it's my fault.

the only problem with roleplay threads is that it gets confusing with the amount of messages over time; for example, in the Atlantis thread it was easier to navigate and make plans because it was mostly one action per thread and the rest was discussion, planning, and shameless propaganda. still, if you missed a couple of messages, you'd easily lose context, unfortunately

This is a lot of work actually, you need to build a world, with potentially NPCs and a foes bestiary, a map, and people need to craft their characters according to your templates. Without going as far as @philtecturophy in the depth of the world, this requires a lot of preparation.

Also, as some people have mentioned, people need to feel invested and adapting it to a CD / FG thread might be difficult. Even online RP (which has not material constraint) is live, so in the forums, it's more a turn-by-turn game adaptation of a tabletop RPG than "roleplay" or "LARP" as we mean it.

Once, a friend tried with our small group of friends on another forum site to RP; players either turned into narrative writing or abandon. Again, it might have been lack of preparation. You need something to keep players engaged together in teamwork so if you need to manage -lets say- 20 users, having 5 teams of 4p-parties might be the best.

I don't think I have the creativity, skill, energy, or time to do so.

I feel awkward participating in RP threads, let alone creating one.

For feedback, I would say you were quite indirect. Eldinis and Commit explained it better, but it just felt like you were leaving lures and expecting us to write the story.

Well, I thought my thread was more action-oriented, so I didn’t want to control the flow of the story too much by limiting users to only one move or so per hour. I still did my best to keep things simple (hence the very basic, small environment with no NPCs) but in the end, it was indeed a lot of work...

@gongaskino It might have been less confusing if I had made several threads for each hour, but I’m not sure the mods would have appreciated that. I didn’t want my work to get purged into the trash (commonly known as Forum Games).

I really enjoyed your RP thread @fleurbleue , had a lot of fun and laughs going through that adventure. You did an excellent job with it! However I would have to agree with the majority on this, for me I just don't think I'm on this website long enough to where I could moderate something like that. People would get bored waiting for me to log back in. If anyone ever does make another similar thread though I'd be all in for participating when I can. :)

@philtecturophy You're welcome and thanks for your inside. I wonder if you had participated in the recent RP thread, how it would have turned out

The potential is still there. Logically, it would be one of the best places, but it seems like people prefer to stick to either CD and/or FG mostly, which has some advantages and disadvantages. Positive is that it invites people even who don't really want to commit that much. Negative is that because there is a lower attention span, things have become a bit too rushed. But then again, I can more than understand wanting to have the story not drag on after a weekend
