Is Yugioh GX and the later spinoffs worth watching (as someone who only watched Duel Monsters)

I feel a little embarrassed admitting this because i'm pretty much considered the biggest yugioh fanboy addict on this forum.

But i've never watched any of the yugioh spinoffs. I know virtually all there is to know about Duel Monsters, but for GX i remember only watching it back on Meguzi Cartoon Network in like 2006 but never finished it. And by the time 5D's came out, i was out of anime.

I've stuck to my safe zone for 20 years in Yugioh DM, but objectively as big a fan of the old i am, do you think it's worth expanding out into the spinoffs?
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

I did watch Yugioh GX many years ago because of a character called Asuka Tenjoin/Alexis Rhodes, she is a sexy blond girl with large breasts and very short miniskirt and tight shirt.

The story and characters are as different as can be, so there's no way to know what you'll think of them. GX is more to my taste than the original, and uses the same rules established in Battle City. Each new series beyond that introduces new rules, which may make the duels more difficult to follow.

I highly reccommend yugioh gx and yugioh 5ds english subbed. They are both goats.

DO NOT WATCH CENSORED DUBS
Both 5ds and GX Skip final arcs and censor a ton.

I'm exactly in the same vein in the Yugioh watchdom as you. For me, I'm fine to just cap off my Yugioh experience after the final episode of the first major series installment.

If you're a fan of Yugioh, I know the later installments focus more on futuristic settings, and some do return to Domino City, but they're all spiritual installments than continuing the adventures of Yugi and his friends. Because you're the biggest Yugioh fan here, I'd try it out.

Regardless of how good the story and the characters are, the card duels always take up a significant amount of the runtime in any Yu-Gi-Oh! anime so I'd recommend the spin-offs only if you enjoy watching them. Yes, I heard people watching Yu-Gi-Oh! for the plot while not enjoying the duels at all.

If you enjoyed Yugioh DM i think there's no reason not to watch any other Yugioh(aside from that atrocious Sevens season)it's in the same timeline as Yugioh DM with many references to the previous season
It's also more competitive with the introduction of different playstyles and archetypes such as Cyber Dragons,E-Heroes,Arcana Force,Destiny Heroes etc

I absolutely love GX and Zexal :D caught some of Arc-V while it was airing too and quite enjoyed it, missed 5D's though :')

GX has "The Chazz" Princeton who starts off as a Kaiba and Draco Malfoy clone but who ends up becoming more of an endearing and hilarious loser. Also great lines like Vellian Crowler's "I HAVE A PHD IN DUELING! That takes NINE YEARS of Duel School you know!"

It does start off more cartoony than the original but eventually gets a lot darker.

Talk about poor taste. I've often found the plot to be the worst part of Yu-Gi-Oh.

Or if you watch it in Japanese, you'll hear "Chronos de Medici" pepper his speech with random Italian words. He is easily the most over the top character of GX.

@Lucifrost That's why my ideal kind of Yu-Gi-Oh! anime would be a slice of life with some heartwarming moments like the beginning of Sevens. Maybe I should check out some other card game anime, but I'm no expert.

@Nirinbo
I see. That explains your high score for GX, but your higher score for Gallop's 1st series is really surprising in light of this.
And you totally need to check out Gundam Build Fighters.

@Lucifrost The plot of the original series isn't peak fiction, but it's still way above the spin-offs.

I will check out Gundam Build Fighters. I've been watching random Gundam entries every now and then, most of them were misses rather than hits but I'll keep on trying.

5D's is shockingly good and has a lot of really great themes that play into some of the strengths of the more dystopian setting by adding an element of social commentary on how Capitalist society treats the impoverished through the lens of cool motorcycles and trading cards. It's also pretty connected to DM and GX being in the same timeline for the animated continuity. If you do end up watching it, I would probably recommend the Japanese version over the dub since 4Kids never got around to finishing the final arc. The movie Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D Bonds Beyond Time is also a part of the 5D's storyline, slotting in between episodes 80 and 81 and being a crossover with DM and GX

GX is my personal favorite. Like the light hearted school anime vibes throughout and that side characters have more relevance.

5D's is also pretty great. Many consider it the best series of the franchise.

Yugioh GX is pretty bad, 5D is quite good, Zexal made me cringe way too hard, and made no attempts at the rest, I didn't even really play with pendulums in the TCG.

I remember GX becoming pretty dark later on. Didn't watch the others, and I left both the anime and the TCG after 5Ds came out with new summon systems I couldn't catch up with.

@Nirinbo there's B-daman crossfire and cf vanguard first half of s1, both are very fun in the beginning feeling more SoL with some mystery and supernatural elements (at least as I remember it was mostly SoL) but then sadly they both ruin it with the fate of the world being on the line... Honestly a realistic game anime that's good and stays good will be great
