Please, whatever you do, just don't start shilling NFTs.
Also don't mess with the UI too much, or at least let us have the option to stay on the current UI.

What's the #1 improvement you want to see? Quite simple, should be quick as it used to be the case(or functioned effectively the same) not so long ago. Prioritize displaying director/chara designer/soundtrack composer etc over producers in the anime's staff section on the entry's page. Kindly, nobody gives a shit about Producers, and it now takes trudging through the staff list to find info that was directly visible before, aka the roles that are most looked at. Example : https://myanimelist.net/anime/16498/Shingeki_no_Kyojin |

| For #1 improvement, please prioritise the mobile app. It's just not good. Forums are unavailable, a lot of times you are going to be redirected to the web mobile version, so whats the point. It's become nearly unusable lately. |

WeaponArchitect said: ALSO: Considering MAL seems to have genuine competition from other sites and unlike say YouTube isn't beholdent to complacency as a monopoly, maybe shit won't get so bad. Shitty changes only really happen a lot with monopolies in certain spaces :/ Let's be real, I have accounts on: AniDB Anilist Simkl (Not anime specific) Trakt (Not anime specific) IMDB (Not anime specific) .. the only Anime-specific one's I'm missing are Kitsu and Anime-Planet. My guess is that I'm not alone in this, many of us and perhaps even you have profiles on other sites that can do the same as Myanimelist can, perhaps the only big difference is how many Anime/Manga entries those databases have, the interface and the user friendliness. The API for 3rd party apps and even their official app not working on Myanimelist for a year or so a few years back led many people to look for other websites, but many of those people are still here, in all likelihood the only difference is that they keep track of their anime on multiple sites rather than one. Why? Because they realize anything can happen to a site for it to go down indefinitely. Personally if AniDB had just a tad better interface and more importantly a phone app, I would probably never had come to use Myanimelist in the first place because AniDB's database is far more comprehensive and doesn't add a gazillion bogus entries for recaps and music videos just to pad the database. @Spast1c Spast1c said: Is this good or bad for MAL's future? Too early to say as we have no idea what the new owners are planning. Let's say they add some AI recommendations tool, one that combines user reviews and the information available on any anime to help you find series that come close to what you're asking it. Like for example you're asking for a dramatic show with demons and it gives you a few recommendations such as Dororo and Berserk with short descriptions on why these shows fit what you asked. I would think that is a GREAT use for AI on this website. People have to remember AI is a tool and like any other tool, you can use it for good and cool things, or you can use it for harmful or bad things. As an example I used AI to make a few simple userscripts such as one for IMDB so it highlights the list status of shows. IMDB: Green = Watched (Basically everything I gave a rating) Blue = On Watchlist It allowed me as someone with zero coding knowledge to 'create' something I can use on a daily basis without having to resort to asking people on the internet to create one for me, which perhaps nobody would respond to in the first place. It's in all likelihood a basic level script as it doesn't really do anything special. AI and robots will drastically change our lives in the upcoming 20 years and for the most part it will make our lives easier, and people claiming AI takes our jobs... Me and several hundred other employees were only just booted a month ago out of the company to be replaced by Indians that can do our jobs(at a basic level at least) for 1-5% of the annual wages we had. The company doesn't care if the productivity and results go down as annual costs went down millions a year just by replacing us with people we can't compete with in terms of wages. |

| Let's go back to My Kitty List and make it purrmanent. Yeah, I'm not happy about this change in ownership either. The silver lining is that Gaudiy's website is just a bunch of corporate and tech buzzwords with terrible UI, which gives me some hope they are one of those firms that just sucks up VC money by claiming to be at the forefront of tech, but is actually just a run-of-the-mill data selling firm. (Nothing says "we're going to revolutionize technology" quite like a terrible website). |

Personally I couldn't care less about some Sonic rule 34 artist crying on Bluesky that AI is taking over his work, instead of utilizing AI which is far better if you already have a graphical background to begin with. As far as the site goes, the only use for AI in terms of features would be recommendations based on the shows you watched, but I feel it's going to be mostly background data harvesting stuff, which seems meaningless to me on a site like this but I could be wrong.

What development? I don't recall any major features or changes to the site being added for years, maybe a few minor things were added that I don't generally use in areas of the site I barely visit... But other than that, nothing has changed in terms of: Searching Anime, Finding Anime and keeping my list up-to-date.
The biggest change I've seen in the past years was when the API went down for more than a year and you were not able to use any 3rd party apps to update your progress. I find something like that or even the monetization of data or even putting the majority of features behind a paywall far more likely than any improvements to the site happening with this acquisition.

If people leave the site for stupid stuff like that, good riddance. You're basically requesting Cartoons to be added to the site which obviously are not Anime, if you want to keep track of that use Trakt/IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes etc. I use Mydramalist for Asian drama shows, while that site is dogshit .. there is not really a competitor in that space.
If the new Myanimelist owners want to add stuff like that to the site, they might as well make sub-sites with stuff like:
A: MyCartoons
B: MyAsian Drama series
C: MyRegular series
^ Obviously not the naming scheme but to make it clear what I mean, something that interconnect all those things into a single account. But then again, you have something like that already in the site SIMKL.
The distinction would at least prevent me seeing Castlevania, Bob's Burgers, Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo and Ed, Edd and Eddy in the top 10 list of MyANIMElist, because practically everybody has seen and enjoyed these shows. So for those 3 people that run away from the site for a competitor you would want to pollute the database even further with things that are NOT anime? If anything that would make me want to leave the site for a competitor if that increases.
Anilist is MyAnimelist's biggest competitor as far as I'm aware and the only Castlevania mention I see on it is a 2005 manga, Devil May Cry some random novels and a 2007 anime... the only show on there from what you listed is Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Which is the only one in your list that even makes sense as it was animated by a Japanese studio and also has the option for Japanese dubs, something those other two lacks.
It's already annoying enough to see a gazillion Chinese shows, two of them I've seen were enjoyable, but these shows always seem to have a rating of 7.5 or higher. Only this season there's 15+ entries of Chinese shows in the ONA section, some of them have no rating but those that do the majority of them is rated 7.8 or higher. I have a feeling people rate them less harshly than they do Japanese anime as the 'best' Chinese show Link Click, while enjoyable doesn't seem like a rank #52 show to me, especially considering the shows it surpasses on the list that in my opinion were far better.
There's some Chinese titles in the top 250 of this site with barely 10k people rating it....
Like this:
Banana Fish should in reality never be lower on the list than Doupo Cangqiong: Nian Fan, yet it is despite having 90~ times the amount of members the Chinese show has...
Or these shows:
A Chinese show that doesn't even hit 4000 members is ranked higher on the list than several extremely popular/known shows, several of which with millions of members or franchises that have had millions of members in general.
.... and you want to pollute this list even further by adding AMERICAN cartoons to the mix? That sounds like a great idea to kill off the site lol.
EDIT:
If there is ONE feature I would want it is being able to hide or for MAL to remove Recap/Music/PV/CM entries from the database as they are pollutants to me, I can't recount the amount of times I got API-limited because many entries are one of those listed above. Especially with shows like One Piece....
Or when you use sites like Chiaki to find entries you're missing the majority of it is recaps/music, just remove that crap from the database already. For completionists/people with OCD it's annoying to have these entries, because on one hand I want to have 100% completion rate per series and everything related in my list, but on the other hand I would be polluting my list with 500-1000+ extra crap entries.
Being able to hide entries from anywhere on the site itself would be a great thing in the first place, I don't want to keep seeing the same crappy stuff I will never watch polluting any type of list such as searches or top lists.
Like we have entries for Gintama x KFC with barely 4000 members:
https://myanimelist.net/anime/37864/Yinhun_x_KFC
Why is MAL polluting it's database and database editors wasting time adding these bogus entries?

| What the anime industry needs is not Web3, NFTs, or blockchain. These technologies won’t make much money for artists, mangaka, or studios—maybe only serve as a way to enrich these companies and major publishers through fees. Basically, leeches. Do you see a blockchain game or publisher having long-term success? No—they all fizzled out after the hype died down. Traditional games and the current model of game distribution have enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy, long-lasting success and growth. Even though a game may cost several times more than a Crunchyroll or Netflix subscription, why is it pirated far less than anime? What the anime industry and fans need is a company like Valve, providing a solution to global anime and manga licensing/distribution. The industry needs a service so good that it practically solves anime and manga piracy. That’s where the money is made—not in some Web3 gimmick of "connecting fans to IP". Either Mal or its other subsidiary gets squeezed, or we will see Mal having a new owner very soon. PS: funny how this company's product is basically an unlaunched NFTs version of Fanbox, Gumroad, and Patreon, and there are already tons of similar sites selling only AI slop out there. Yeah, good luck with that |

That's a pipedream, every service is great upon conception until it inevitably turns to Enshittification. Crunchyroll was a piracy site before, heck it used subtitles from fansub groups to post on their own site without giving credit in the past. Now it's one of the biggest websites for watching licensed anime. Licensing is not just an issue with Anime, but other media as well... It leads to services such as Netflix having different libraries of media content in the US compared to other places in the world. Licensing leads to games having music removed years/decades later because the license only was valid up until a certain time. You also have to remember that a lot of Anime and Manga will NEVER be licensed outside of Japan, and thus will never receive official translations, so in regards to this piracy will always keep existing. It's annoying but it's not something that you can really change as every country as their own laws, regulations and even culture. nikobin said: Even though a game may cost several times more than a Crunchyroll or Netflix subscription, why is it pirated far less than anime? You want a feature removed you used yourself to ascertain someone hasn't been online since 2008? If anything I would say give people the ability to make it private or keep it on for just people that you are friends with. Deleting accounts not used since 2019 would lead to a lot of forum posts/threads to be removed and you will end up with discussions making zero sense because half of the posts were removed from the threads. For example that would mean One Piece Episode 1 discussion thread would be removed: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=43183 Several people in that thread haven't been online for years, but shared their insights on these episodes which can be interesting to read for some. On some old and obscure series, there might be only a handful of posts and the removal of these accounts would mean you are basically removing any insights you can get from these series. The alternative would be anonymizing these accounts, but I don't think that is what you're suggesting. |

5 - Delete the "Last Online" feature on a person's profile. I get that this is a MySpace feature, but just delete it.
For example that would mean One Piece Episode 1 discussion thread would be removed:
https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=43183
Several people in that thread haven't been online for years, but shared their insights on these episodes which can be interesting to read for some. On some old and obscure series, there might be only a handful of posts and the removal of these accounts would mean you are basically removing any insights you can get from these series.
The alternative would be anonymizing these accounts, but I don't think that is what you're suggesting.

| @filopyon Deleting accounts does not remove threads started by them, nor any posts by them. It will just say "removed-user" instead of who the user was. But this can all be solved if we just remove the "last login" feature, and then no accounts have to be deleted. @traed See? Seniority-Superiority by someone with accounts created before 2010. And you always disagree with all my threads/posts, especially the ones about woman and dating @AngelFlash Appalled? And no one is trolling here. And post history? Because I have 4,000 posts over an 11 year span, im a troll? And this further strengthens my point, that posts numbers should be deleted |

Considering how you worded it, it seemed like you wanted every trace of these accounts gone instead of the anonymization. I also don't know if there's a difference between deleting your account yourself, which indeed leads to 'removed-user' and mal doing a bulk purging of accounts. Seeing a gazillion 'removed-user''s everywhere doesn't really make this community seem any good, it makes it seem people either leave the site en-masse or they got banned/removed/nuked because they broke a bunch of rules. Then you would be better off removing them entirely. I don't understand the logic behind removing the last-online and then keeping the accounts being fine, is it just the aesthetic that annoys you? |

| @oooo3333 I really don't know how or why you would ever want to delete thousands of accounts, lists, posts, and reviews from this site just because they come from people that haven't logged in in 3 years. I myself took a 5-year break from watching anime and updating my list. Old abandoned profiles from the 2000s/2010s are time capsules that represent a slice of what it was like to be an otaku back then. Even just anonymizing old forum posts from 2008 that say "this show sucks!!!" is bad, because then you wouldn't be able to go "hmm if they hated this critically-acclaimed show all the way back in 2008, I wonder what they DID like back then?" and then you'd see they rated some shit like Ikkitousen a 10. There's ancient history on this site. You would never ever see gems like these: Deleting the "last online" function is also silly. Sometimes people actually DIE, and the "last online" function is a reminder of when they were last seen. A less depressing reason to keep the last online function (and probably the actual intention behind it) is so you can see when your friends last came online. So you can, y'know, keep in touch. Also... if you feel shame over people seeing all the strange, perverted, incest-advocating, borderline incel-like posts you've made in the past, delete them yourself. When people see baffling comments it's very common for them to check the profile of the person to see whether or not they're coming from an insane person or someone with their head on straight. I looked at how many deranged posts about relationships and dating your cousin you made and thought you were just a shitposter, so I avoided replying to what I thought was obvious bait. But now I'm not so sure of that. |

Please don't get rid of our ability to have custom styling in our lists. Please don't break the custom styling on my list, I worked very hard on it. I am a paying user of MAL, and wish to stay so for now, but please do not ruin this website. Thank you. |

These are the 5 changes that I want to see:
1- Any account that has not logged in for 2 years (730 days), gets automatically deleted. We can push it to 3 years, but no more. Its always a melancholic feeling seeing a comment you like, and then you see that the account has not been active for years. I recently saw a comment that I liked and agree, and when I went to the account "Last login 2008"
2 - Any account that has not been active since late 2019 gets automatically deleted as well.
3- Delete the number of "posts" that a user has made. I dont need to be reminded that I dont have a life.
4- Delete the "Joined" date on a person's profile. This eliminates the feeling of "superiority seniority"
5 - Delete the "Last Online" feature on a person's profile. I get that this is a MySpace feature, but just delete it.
Change that I DO NOT want to see:
- DO NOT change the forums into something more modern. I dont need a Youtube/Instagram/TikTok/Reddit comment section. I like the old-school look

| @Tropisch I used to have all the animes I completed on my MAL, it was like over 600 animes I decided to delete them, asides from animes im currently watching or plan to watch It was a mental battle for me to see whats my favorite anime, or who are my favorite characters, and if an anime I completed sped-up if I should count that as completed or not. Best decision ive made. Now I can finally enjoy anime again without over-nitpicking |

| The only change that I want is the ability for free users to add more to their favourites. That's it. The image linked to in the post is fake, which is good news. I don't want them to remove any anime from the database. This is not a place for advertisers to corrupt, this is a place to document what anime were made and for people to list what they have seen. |

| Concerning the update and the alleged fake post... Even if it is fake, that doesn't mean it doesn't at least make correct predictions about the future. Just the fact that Gaudiy is an AI/NFT company tells you everything you need to know. And there is one thing I can say for sure: They will sell your userdata. There is not the slightest doubt about that. That's what companies that are less evil than AI/NFT do gleefully. But those AI/NFT companies' business model pretty much revolves around exploitation of others. Why should they not sell user data? |

| For me the things I’d want to see first since It’s hard to just choose one are; .Better app, the app still re directs to website for tons of things, we can’t manage favorites in app, can’t search for studios, characters or people in app, can’t add rewatches in app and so much more .More filters, I want to filter my personal list by things like overall MAL score so I can see what’s the highest rated shows I’ve seen and what I rated them in comparison, filter by members on my lists so I can see the most and least popular shows I’ve watched, plus some any other filters that sound interesting as I can’t remember all the ones I wanted off the top of my head .OPs/Eds get a favorites bar wether that be 1 combined for both or 2 separate ones .As an extra but not immediate need is a website redesign, the website looks stuck in the 2000’s |

| Honestly, none of this is encouraging. You don't "invest" without expecting a return. MAL's only marketable feature is its traffic. Sony Music, and its multiple off shoots are looking to remove internet access for piracy. (Not condoning piracy. However, the move is unquestionably Profits over Community. Give us more money - forever. That will kill this, and every other place communities call home.) "Sponsored by..." is the basis of voting with your dollar. The "Must grow every year" model of business is unsustainable. Sony Music made something like $10 Billion last year, $2.07 Billion in Q4, a 7-9% YoY increase. It won't be enough. I expect MAL will be the latest casualty in the profit war against users. If we just advertise more and make everything as inconvenient as possible, we can squeeze more money from our victims...err customers. When the pop-ups overwhelm the site, when requiring linking your Sony/Other accounts, when using a VPN becomes standard practice to avoid data collection: I want every user to remember, an excel spread sheet and a discord channel are free. |

| I really don't want too many changes. I like the site as is. Frankly, if investors get interested in making money off this, there's stuff that can happen that will turn me away. - removal of ecchi/hentai mal entries. I dont add those to me list but having everything catalogued on the site is what is important. - keeping this site sticky to east Asian content (Manga, Manwha and Donghua and the equivalent for anime) - AI monitoring of chat (like YouTube) and shitty chat rules (like reddit) But given that I'm not too confident that things won't remain the same, I'm going to be backing up my lists and will start maintaining on another site. |

We can have Korean and Chinese animation, but not anime that feature western IP/ have some western studios involved in the production (Scott Pilgrim and all that)? Never made sense. Keep: UI. | I'm not picky, but it'd be nice if there were more/easier ways to customise your profile and anime list or it was more evident that further customisation was available on the website. I don't mind the UI being updated but not a complete overhaul of what it is. And of course I agree with anybody's concerns over increasing the safety of the website and stronger assurance that privacy laws are being obeyed. That is probably the most important thing :) |
