Would you agree?:

A score under 6 most defently means a bad anime.

A score above 6 but below 7.5 can be everthing, from the worst sh*t on this planet to the most hidden gem you will ever find.

A score abouve 7.5 but below 8most of the time, rather good.

A score over 8 usualy means good anime, may not be yours, but is a good watch and worth your time.

Does anyone think this is an overall accurate system?

Edit: This doesn't mean i offend anyone who cherishes an anime below the score of 6, me too i found quit a few lower rated anime which i enjoyed quit a bit, but i have the feeling over all there are way more bad animes than good animes below the score of 6.

Numbers are arbitrary and they mean nothing without proper context, an anime that is 1/10 for someone can be a 10/10 for another.

I believe mal scores are worthless, and you should judge it by the demographic info and description. The only way to find out if you like it is give it a watch.

I tend to love a lot of low rated stuff like Puniru. Mal score is a metric for mass appeal (ie pleasing both men and women). I love ecchi which almost never appeals to women.

That's a pretty fair way to go about evaluating scores, though I've seen anime I hated with an 8.5+ and anime I liked with below a 6. MAL scores can do a good job as an indicator of the general consensus surrounding an anime but they might be one of the worse ways to determine if something's going to be up your alley without watching it.

Average anime score is 6.5 in the database, so 5.5 to 7.5 can be anything.

anything that is 1-4 score is bad everything else after this is enjoyable/good. I don't understand why people have such a weird fixation on the 6-7 score being mid or bad even though they are very high scores. And that score system you have listed is terrible. Everyone has their own taste and the user score should not be an gospel wheather or not someone will enjoy something.

Scores need to be interpreted correctly, things are more complex than this. For example, obscure anime rated around 7.5 are usually well received, whereas the same score for a very popular anime means that the general reception is negative.

Nah the ratings are so unreliable I can't come with a consistent system to predict quality based on them.

I don't trust the rating the majority of the time. I normally give anime that are deemed shitty by the reviews or has the score of 5 or below the benefit of the doubt and it's normally either decent or shit. There are a few 7+ score anime that I hate with disdain.

I don't know but anything above 4.5 is at least watchable. Just ignore the numbers and watch what looks interesting to you.

I don't think such ratings are very important. I don't think these ratings are rigged by bots (to any significiant extent), but I still wouldn't take these ratings too seriously.

Yeah, I would probably find that accurate most of the time. I would probablt put another distinction for over 8.5 because I do feel a quality difference between 8-8.5 shows and the ones above 8.5.

For me - yes, correlation is exists, but it is still just correlation)) Many anime may have bad/good scores because same unrelated to my personal taste reasons, so I used "score" like indicators, but this is only one from many.

How about you just use the actual score system that is presented to you, by the site that you are using.
A 6, on here, is "Fine". There you go. A 4 is labled "bad". Use that and we know what you want to get across.

Nobody gives a fk what you think a 6 means or doesn't mean. Nobody cares.
Be different. Have a unique system with 0,5 rating differences and special meanings. Just do it alone. We don't need to know.
I don't go look at someones Ratings and think: "Hm, I wonder what his system is". No. I use the standart. A 10 is a masterpiece and a 1 is appalling.

It's just using a website. This particular website has a 1-10 scale going on. Pretty simple. You're on here? Okay, if you want to take part that's the way ratings work. That's MaL. It makes it easy. Having to read up on each users unique way of rating Anime makes me puke. It takes all the fun out of it. I don't do it. It would make it impossible to even create a Top 10 List, anywhere.

One of the small things MAL does and I appreciate a lot is that each score have a "name": a 10 is a master piece and a 6 is just fine. I use this a lot as reference.

On seeing the overall user score, a 6 is definitely watchable, a 5 is just worrying. On these cases I like to see some of the users reviews and check a little of "meat" in the score and see what red flags they can be showing (without entering in spoiler territory).

For example, I have anime that rush their ending so much that they leave stuff unsolved and you cant have a satisfying epilogue for your anime, if a lot of people point this out, I will probably end this. If I see many people claiming that the jokes are just too stupid or ridiculous, and Im just searching for something ¨light¨to see, i might give it a change

Nah, not really. You really gotta keep survivor bias, recency bias, and the quirks of MAL's community to get anything out of these ratings.

Yes, in a general sense, things which are rated higher are typically better than things rated lower. However, this does not apply to anything short or experimental, which MAL has no taste for.

That's roughly been my experience.

But there have also been many exceptions. I haven't counted and charted them, but it's possible that what I think as "a rough pattern" in fact does not exist...

In the end I have to actually read up on what the anime is about and what people are saying in reviews and forums.

ngl, I'm not the most reliable either. I'm usually grade curved to a fault, with it being more of a personal reflection: 10 means the series did something that resonated with me. 9 means it's well made and with a lot of effort, but while it doesn't hit me too hard, it's still great. 8 is something I enjoyed despite "some flaws" or not resonating with me too much, but it never failed to impress and I know there are fans out there who rank it high in their lives, so I give it that respect. 7 is my "needs improvement", "okay", or general "so bad it's good" grade, while it still has something of worth to give to the world. That's the lowest I go for "average".

Now, for things that I found really terrible.... I always give that a 1. That takes effort to be terrible in my book. This ranges from absolutely mediocore to the point of me screaming "BORINGGGG" in my mind to "wow, you guys did not give a flying @##$ about your production" to "Birth of a Nation" levels of bad. At the same time, my most hated currently is Only Yesterday, and I'm also not going to deny I'm biased as fucking hell on my grade on it. However, I don't like shaming people for liking it and finding something of value and sentiment with it. So that speaks more about me than it ever does about those who do like it.

Some of the best and most original classic shows are rated in the 7,8-8,0 range mostly because they don't appeal to everybody even though other people consider them timeless masterpieces.

On the other hand there are many seasonal overhyped shows rated over 8 and sometimes even over 8,5 that have some glaring flaws (most often garbage writing and characters)

I generally think 7+ is worth trying. There's no level at which I think it's a sure-fire hit for me - One Piece Fan Letter is over 9 but it was pretty uninteresting to me as someone who hasn't watched One Piece.

I rarely try anything scored 5 to 6, based on what I've scored in that region I assume it would be fairly bland or dumb.

The real kicker is that many shows have weak - or no - endings but still get high scores based on earlier episodes or series.
