There’s something incredibly soothing about the sound of rain. I love making a cup of tea and settling in with my books to study or just watching anime while the rain gently taps against the window. When it’s summer, I never miss the chance to go for a walk in the rain. It feels like the world slows down, and everything gets a little more peaceful.

Lately, I’ve even found myself craving thunderstorms and heavy rain. There’s a strange comfort in the chaos of it like the louder the storm, the more focused and calm I feel. Unfortunately, where I live in Eastern Europe, those kinds of storms aren’t that common.

What about you? What kind of atmosphere or moment makes you feel truly relaxed or helps you focus?

Watching my fish play with their food when I give them limpet eggs.

The eggs are terrible for water clarity (It's like a bunch of tiny egg yolks), but my guys love 'em too much to stop, and my local saltwater beaches have enough limpets that it's easy to get a week's worth in no time.

EDIT: Damn, topic already got buried into page 2 of CD.

EDIT2: Thanks for unburying this thread, @Retro8bit! :D

For some reason every time I turn off all the TVs and appliances in my house and put on some classical music with a good book, it's one of my top past relaxing pastimes.

I totally agree with you OP, rain is incredibly soothing, i can't say i'm a huge fan of thunderstorms though, too loud and chaotic.

As for my answer, i would strangely say that watching Youtubers i like and feel a parasocial connection with helps me feel at ease, even if such a concept might sound sad to you.

Nightcore music, idk why but it's always made me happy whenever I listen to it.

Also any Enya song/album, that stuff is like the perfect relaxation music.

@megumeru

I haven't listened to nightcore in years but there is something incredibly nostalgic about it. It makes me want to be a preteen again.

The sound of cicadas on a hot day...except that one time it was so many it was like a plague of insect sirens causing pain.

Being near a creek to hear the water.

Other things I don't have anymore 💔

Probably peaceful sights of nature. Trees swaying in the wind. Eyes wandering an underbrush. Seeing a little animal like a squirrel scamper around and tracking them. Seeing water flow down a river.

Feeling loved as a person and not as an object, physical stuff 🤣

^ omg i love those so true

Watching squirrels be deffo on the list, birds too, dragon flies, bees, butterflies, cats... When im not worried about them 🫠 and other animals. people being unable to see me in a place im safe, locked doors with a chair etc so ill wake up if it opens. having someone on the phone when im walking alone in bad places. Being in nature or by the sea or lakes when its not bug heaven time 🤣, gardening.

Omg yeeees rain and thunder too... When in a safe place ofc.
Love the drumming of rain and how it looks and feels. Also snowfall. Love those. And walking in light snowfalls.

Rowing too and feeling the water and looking at it glistening and forests. Physical activity at times.

Petting my dogs. Even helps to get rid of headaches for me somehow. I wish I still had cats too, I miss the purring sound and how warm they'd be after sitting in the sun.

Music. I instantly feel better when i put on music and just go about my day listening to music.

Rain only helps when it's a softish rain that has been going on all day. A quick 10 minute shower doesn't comfort me at all
