Since we had a sub vs dub debate, what will happen this both take over by AI (as in official take over) are still gonna watch? Will the AI accurate they were saying. Are you willing to watch future anime even AI involved or are you willing to watch it raw.

I never thought about it before... Maybe I should just hurry up and learn Japanese already.

Of course since I'm not an anti-AI extremist. AI is good in moderation.

Ediit: for sub only since I don't watch dub.

I don't want to watch it in AI dub, that's for sure.

I will watch it in AI sub if it's a good translation, no shenanigans or forced censorship or utilizing euphenisms or sending out subliminal messages and/or preaching. Just translate it like it is in a faithfull way and we will be good buddies.

If AI subs aren't good and trustworthy, I guess I hitted a wall and I will have to stop watching anime, because I have zero interest in learning the language at this point. I rather life in a rural village of Japan without being able to speak Japanese so I must force myself to learn Japanese that way, then living where I live now and force myself to study it daily for 1 hour. I guess. I'm not a fan of AI but if it's the only way I can enjoy the hobby, I guess it's a necessary evil to watch it? 😳

I mostly watch raw anyway so i guess this doesn't affect me.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

Yes, but I'm going to have to actually sit down and learn Japanese seriously, instead of periodically doing Duolingo.

I might be okay with getting help from AI with my studying, though...

I'll watch sub or raw, as usual. I know raw is uncommon, but people tend to forget there is this option. Even if you need to watch with subs, AMV editers, bloggers, screenshot-ers... use raw footage.

Hell no. AI translation is slop and I would rather watch something with real human voice actors. I am learning Japanese so by that point if this ever became the norm I would probably just watch raw

I don’t mind AI sub at all. I watched an anime recently with AI subs and honestly didn’t even notice the difference. AI dubs might be a bit harder to get used to, but if it's well done, I definitely watched.

AI is really just a scam. It is just another desperate attempt to reduce the amount of workers to increase profits for capitalists.

I have no interest in AI anything. I am even being asked to look into AI stuff at my job and have not done so. They can fire me (or I'll fire myself)
All the kiddies who loves AI (all zoomers, who else) are just pirating anyway, so it's a wasted effort whichever companies actually use it to throw American or European VAs out of work. And if it's fansubs, don't give a fuck I never watched those anyway.

I hope that my Japanese will be good enough at that point that I can just watch raw. If not, I might stop watching since I prefer manga anyway.

But considering that I read MTL manga when lacking better options, it's possible that I'd watch with AI subs if the urge to watch a specific anime were stronger than my will to boycott it.

Not sure what you mean ...

AI subtitles? Sure, but only if there are no silly mistakes.

AI voices? Not sure, I can't imagine it can do this properly.

As long as it's checked for quality, and isn't just allowed to hallucinate up some bullshit, then sure? I've already played around with AI for subtitling (Not just Whisper, but Google Gemini too), and there's a solid 8% chance it'll "listen" to the audio and video provided, and hallucinate something that follows its own story, completely divorced from the story it was actually given, so manual intervention is very much still mandatory.

I ain't touching AI dubs with a 2 thousand foot pole, though. I'm staying with my ways, and that's final!

Unfortunately, I would probably still watch it. I don't want AI to replace the translators' jobs, but it seems like a much bigger debate over the use of AI in general. I would only feel like I have control in the issue if many people choose to boycott it, which seems unlikely currently, with the way people rely on ChatGPT already. I think that with time, it would be extremely accurate, and we would not be able to notice any changes. Maybe at first the AI would be unable to completely replicate the human language, and it would sound more formal than intended. If we're talking about watching an anime that AI created, like the writing of the story, then no, I would not watch it.

I'd probably just stop watching new [seasonal] anime. I already dislike AI translation, but if a corporation uses AI to put even more people out of work then I'd rather just not watch whatever they're involved with. If a corporation is in charge, then those non-human translations would probably have the same problems as a lot of current official subs anyways. Maybe I'd get around to learning Japanese quicker if we got to that point.

already started to learn japanese for this reason though it will take years to get decent at it.

i've been noticing that the subtitles have become increasingly garbage and localised since last year. hardly any accurate and exact translation because of which so much is lost. older files on torrent sites still retain good subtitles from fansubs but modern ones are pretty terrible from curnchyroll. so much is just cut out or a western version of the thing is being said in the subtitles. its so annoying

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

There's enough existing dubbed anime to get me through the rest of my life, so I'd probably just avoid any AI dubs and continue as usual

Yes, I would watch it, I watch it with subtitles anyway, and as far as I know AI is pretty good at translating.
