This is one of those weird cases where that involves someone saying they saw a doppleganger.

Akihiko gets involved in the case as you'd expect and this got more darker as the episode progressed. I like the idea of a doppleganger being part of the show though. Not a very original idea but fits really well.

This case was really interesting, with how they kept showing the doppelgangers and maintained the suspense—especially the moment when Hanayo, her mother, and her little sister's doppelganger all appeared together outside the window.

Kanna has shown that she's truly a wonderful friend. When her friends were struggling with all these superstitions, she came to help. Even though she caused some trouble later, the point is she's a good kid.

And why the hell would Hanayo's aunt come at her like that—right in her face—when Hanayo was already so scared of her? That gave off such a horror show vibe that at one point I thought she was just having hallucinations. Or that moment when Hanayo's little sister's face was dark with shadow.

I’ve realized that the show doesn’t just have mysteries or supernatural cases—most of the mysteries are actually related to death.

I've to say that it is true that people in the past (2+ generations before) were easily give/receive/swap their babies, possibly because they've a lot of babies at that time and so little money.

And this is how you almost cause a teenaged girl to have a heart attack.

So it was a twin, not a doppleganger :)

of course there's "reasonable" explanation of everything so far, nothing to do with supernatural or ghost or any type of mysteries, but some of them are pretty far fetched

These last two episodes have been entertaining.
What was going on in the first 3 episodes? Why did they start with weak and boring mysteries??
Anyways I would've liked a darker ending where someone was tormenting the family lol but this show isn't about that. After all, it's a wholesome show.

Well, that's a pretty realistic explanation, although you really had to be very lucky for that to happen. I just don't get one thing, was Hanae's little sister actually her cousin or what?

@Kai200X Well, the chance of having twins is indeed very genetically dependent. For example, one of the reasons why the Japanese are so fond of twins is that the Japanese generally have a very low rate of such births. To the point that it was considered a bad sign in the past. Whereas among Polynesians, twins are so common that some families can have 3-4 sets of twins among their children and have twin sibling themselves. Read about the legendary Samoan wrestling family, the Anoaʻi family.

@XArceusX Judging from past episodes, relatives in this universe really like to act creepy or weird for no reason. Remember the father's behavior from the last episode. I understand that it was done for the sake of the final punchline, but the characters themselves clearly didn't think about it, lol.

Well, it really looked like a supernatural mystery at first glance, but we should really know better by now.
Those two sisters must be really close to trust each other to raise the other's daughter as her own.

@XArceusX actually I think that was just presenting things from Hanayo's perspective as she had a panic attack because then Kanna pops out from behind them and tone shifts and lightens.

That was stupid, like, I wouldn't fault anyone for thinking that the mother's goal was to murder her daughter by forcing a suicide or a heart attack - level of stupid.

All it would have taken was to sit down for 5 minutes and have a nice family conversation. Nah, she needed a lot of willpower to open her mouth, doesn't matter that her daughter was mentally broken and couldn't even eat properly.

The show tries so hard to stay away from supernatural, when it really should have been supernatural.

All that over three cases of twin magic? What a letdown. The Bellas would not be impressed. On the positive end of things I do think the ending theme for this show is pretty cool tho. I like that frantic energy. Not sure why it took me until episode 5 to realize that mind you, but there ya go.

Another great case! I really liked the creepy vibes of this one. It ended up being a little convoluted, but still entertaining.

@JustMonaka It can't be really supernatural, as the original work it was based on is all about Chuzenji proving people that supernatural is just product of lack of knowledge and their minds having a skewed perception of reality. Take that away and it's a work for ghostbusters, not Chuzenji, who is just a walking encyclopedia, amateur psychologist and detective, not an actual exorcist (even if that's how he makes money on the side).
If this series wasn't so weirdly family friendly, it could have been about an inheritance dispute, with the twins being just random, vaguely similar, girls in disguise, to drive the heiress crazy. That would have been better than this families sharing children and somehow never talking about it or keeping contact.

additionally, the younger sisters HAVE to have a European/Caucasian papa... you don't easily get auburn/reddish hair AND green eyes on your kid if dad AND mom are Japanese. i seriously doubt either mom would let their little girl (back in those days!) dye her hair AND make sure both match? plus the hairstyles?! and the clothing!?! i get the school uni on the older sisters looking the same. that's not that hard to mistake a slight difference between schools. or the other older sis is already wearing the new school's uni before she transfers... which doesn't make alot of sense... but could happen... i'm trying to figure out HOW big sister 1 never figured out her lil sis WASN'T PURE JAPANESE! seriously? is she a dunce? she has lived with this lil sister all these years and never wondered why she and her mom both look 'Japanese' but her lil sis doesn't!?!?!! ya know what would be even spookier? if both moms married twin guys... that would make this genetic cocktail even MORE shaken! ;>

But sometimes hair colors in anime aren't very literal and just seem like a stylistic design flourish even when the character is supposed to be plain pure Japanese. Like characters with green, blue, purple, etc. hair, or even colors which normally exist as human hair colors like red and blonde.

@WatchTillTandava nope. this isn't one of 'those shows' with exotic looks and blablabla. otherwise, the younger twins' hair and eye color wouldn't have made me wonder what tha hell was going on.

it is set in a specific historical period in Japan, with no 'real' supernatural stuffs... just old myths and blablabla being misconstrued with real life events. also, this isn't 'just some manga'... this one is written AND drawn by Shimizu Aki who did the art for "Ubume no Natsu" written by Kyougoku Natsuhiko. THAT manga is adapted from the first novel from Kyogoku's "Hyakki Yakou" series. that author and his first novel from 1994 "Ubume no Natsu" is 'basically' why 'The Mystery Writers of Japan' authors' and publishers' group; affiliated with all of the various 'Mystery Writers of ___' (insert country name there) from around the world exists.

The content of this episode seemed somewhat short sighted.I would have liked to see a twist in the content.
