Zatsu Tabi: That’s Journey seemed like it would be entertaining, but it ended up being a letdown. It still airing though.

Yeah, it's become a pretty common disappointment for most fans and for good reason too. It's just a bad adaptation of an otherwise really good manhwa.

Lazarus, we are 5 episodes in and there is not any progress in the story or any kind of character development, and we are talking about a series with 13 episodes.

Dead Dead Demons DeDeDe Destruction.

Still not finished watching it. I was hyped for it, read good stuff about it. The first few eps were... a mixed bag. Cool FLCL vibes, but also somewhat edgy and nihilistic. Then I realized... it's an Inio Asano adaptation. Episode 6 confirmed my worst fears, it's going to be unsubtle misery porn, again.

I gess I'll finish it, 11eps left... Not looking forward to it tho.

Alita: Battle Angel (the OVAs from the 80s)

They weren't bad per se but not that memorable either.
@Fukoku I'm sure you heard about it already, but the OVA and manga are quite different. The manga is sci-fi manga at its very, very best.

Nothing in the license lives up to that glorious piece of fiction, except maybe Haisha

Lazarus, it's not over yet but I don't feel like it's going to get any better, Watanabe bros...we're so cooked.
@Zayvex I'm not sure about most people, but for me it's been a long while since Watanabe has last directed a series that I was really into ("Space Dandy" and that was more than ten years ago), so I didn't go into "Lazarus" with any high expectations. I was opened to being pleasantly surprised, but it's turning out to be an underwhelming experience.

"Honey Lemon Soda" - I've liked the recent shoujo anime adaptations that I've seen, so I was expecting similarly from this series. It looked promising, but I was not into it to say the least. The writing felt a bit too juvenile and I didn't find the characters very compelling.

Witch Watch, My initial expectations were bad, because I thought it would be the kind of comedy I hate, but the first 2 episodes were fun. Unfortunately, after 2 good episodes, it showed it's true colors and had the kind of comedy I hate, such a letdown.
@CrimsonWanderer If you haven't read or seen "Sket Dance" (also created by Kenta Shinohara), then it makes sense that you wouldn't know what type of humor the series has. I haven't seen or read "Witch Watch" yet, so I didn't know it'd be a comedy series, but I have an idea of what to expect since I've read "Sket Dance."

@Kattvalp I've heard they crammed way too much into the short runtime, but sounds like it's worth it for the visuals (?).

@bucciest I have actually been told that Sket Dance comedy is far superior to that of Witch Watch, from Sket Dance fans themselves, so you can imagine that the overall comedy quality is below average in Witch Watch.

Good luck watching it tho, hope you like it.

@bucciest I actually liked the characters, and enjoyed the series well enough overall, but the pacing was terrible. It sped through over 7 volumes in 12 episodes, and it wasn't the kind of series where they could just cut stuff out, they had to go through it quickly. So a lot of the emotional moments didn't have time to sink in.

@kta_99 Yikes, that's not good. I did hear a little about how there were issues like that. Part of me does wonder how much the manga would improve my opinion of the series (especially since I'm currently in a spot where I don't care for love interests with personalities like Kai's and half of the appeal in a series for me is the love interest), but I also know that shoujo adaptations do not get the care that they should sometimes - especially since multiple seasons are almost never guaranteed, so the anime studio probably tried to do as much as they could in the time they had. I heard the "Seven Seeds" adaptation got butchered for some similar reasons and the anime doesn't do how great that series is any justice, which is a huge shame, so if it's similar with "Honey Lemon Soda" then I should give the manga a try and at least read what the anime covered for comparison...

@bucciest Maybe the people that already know the story well can enjoy it as just a nice animation of the highlights of the series with nice songs, but it makes the story seem so ridiculous that I wouldn't say it's worth it. They weren't just cramming too much stuff, they were flying through it with songs and a bunch of images without context. The whole conflict with the king's lover from the first volume was just a few images mixed in the visuals of a song without a single dialogue or explanation. It felt like I was watching a really long trailer.

Since I didn't read beyond the first volume nor watched the series, I decided to stop watching 40 minutes in because I didn't want to ruin my chances of actually enjoying the story when it's told properly.

I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I'll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time. And Magic Maker: How to Make Magic in Another World

I may be known for having shitty taste when it comes to anime and I know the pure hate of Iskeai. But that´s who I am a huge fan of Iyashikei and Isekai becuse sadly today most fantasy we get are isekai. But I love does relaxing happy anime´s.

But these 2 anime´s was baffling disappointed as hell. The MC in guild Receptionist was just pure annoying and the story just meh. While Magic maker started out slow and boring it become a bit intresting at the end but nothing I would hurray over.

I taught I would get 1 good comedy fantasy and 1 good relaxing nice Iskeai but what I got instead of pure utter disappointment.

So I wonder a man known for loving animes that MAL hates when even he dislike them they must be pure bad when even some one like me can´t enjoy them.

For obvious reasons, the most recent big disappointment was The Beginning After The End. Even taking away all the animation problems etc. I still can't get over how painfully dull the story is and how uninteresting the characters have been.

@WeaponArchitect I've fought with Lain a handful of times. It's got an unfortunate reputation as an exceptional series, but it's way too obtuse and plodding to maintain attention over 13 episodes. It'd be a really cool show to catch as a live broadcast with zero information about what it is, but in the modern context of on-demand binge watching it's pretty miserable. Really cool vibes, though. It'd probably work if you watch it one episode per week or something. I haven't managed to get through the entire thing still though, lol.

Even if for some reason you don't enjoy the story, the art is 10/10, and it's only 8-9 volumes long anyway. But it's got a reputation for having some really good antagonists, and it's doing a great job at exploring its theme of determinism vs free will too ;).

Most recent? I guess the last season of Kimetsu no Yaiba...not that I had hitherto unheard of expectations but I was at least expecting something to happen, yet fuck-all did and everything felt either like too much time wasted on pointless shit or not enough. Previous seasons were at the very least decently entertaining but this last one was a complete wash.

Definitely Douse, Koishite Shimaunda (Anyway, I'm falling in Love with You). I was really looking forward to a nice romantic reverse harem, but immediately, it seemed like there is one guy who is going to take up most of the attention. It doesn't help that he is extremely pushy, and its borderline sexual assault. It was not enjoyable or even entertaining. This was a show from Winter 2025, so it's my most recent disappointment.

I just finished Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, and I found all the episodes good until the last 2 episodes. I got so confused by that. Whoever saw Orb, u know what I am talking about. I would not say that I am super disappointed, just confused. At the end, I was just thinking, what did I just watch. Everything up to episode 23 was really good and then everything just started to go sideways.

@Sen1793 I've seen the anime, so I'm not missing out on much by not checking out the film. Wasn't that interested in it either, but it looks nice and even though it leaves a lot to be desired, the film's presence can work to get more eyes on the series and get people checking out the anime. I'm just surprised that they didn't focus on an arc or two in the movie like I thought they would. That'd make more sense.

@Hiyajo-san At least you're interested in checking out the manga, which is more than can be said for me. Although I acknowledge that the anime probably did the manga dirty. I remember looking to see if anyone had made any threads taking issue with the anime adaptation at some point while I was watching the anime and not finding any, so I got the impression that there weren't many issues.

Slayers Excellent, it was absolutely gorgeous and episode 1 was good but everything else about it omg it was so annoying. In the show there's time to breathe so even though the show is also crazy and full of slapstick it doesn't feel overwhelming or annoying. in the OVA it's just BAMBAMBAM one thing after another and with how much absolute yelling there is from both Naga and Lina it is GRATING. And I was sad there wasn't really much plot, I guess it was asking too much but I wanted to see some fun and mysterious villains.

I know it's because I went in after watching the TV series and that it isn't entirely fair to judge it in comparison like that but my gosh- it just had almost none of what I wanted or expected from it.

And worst of all I was so excited to watch this because Slayers is my favorite anime and my bf hasn't watched it- I thought with this being a prequel it would be a less daunting starting point and perfect because I hadn't watched it either but with how terrible it was, this is just his impression of what Slayers is now and that is a bit sad for me.

@kamonmabase Reading this is kind of funny to me just because I had the exact opposite experience with the show, watched it about a year ago and found myself binging it over the course of about two days. I found the show utterly enthralling. Different strokes for different folks I guess but it is interesting how vastly our perspectives differ
