This is mainly for ppl who don't like ecchi and often things that are not ecchi/Hentai will have little moments of fanservice in them

Ecchi has got me to pick up series I would have skipped like Dandadan and Losing Heroines. Ecchi is a good way to gatekeep the grifters.

@MYZIC because I don't really like it? If a show is good and it isn't too much I don't have a problem but it just isn't for me

I don’t care about fanservice even if there’s a lot of it. What makes me really uncomfortable is when men are harassed just because of their sex (yeah, tsunderes, but not only them). And the same goes for those moments when male characters are acting overprotective in regard to a female character. Those moments kinda make me wanna, if not drop the show, then at least skip all of them.

I am rather neutral towards fan service in non ecchi anime so I usually give it a pass.
However I do not like badly implemented fan service. An inapropriate use can pull me out of my immersion.

It depends on when and how fanservice is shown. I dropped fire force since they show fan service during integral moments and scenes

Infinity +1 chances will I give.

0 because I don't give fan service strikes, I don't watch a show with hopes of fan service or no fan service. IMO, fan service is a nice bonus but even if I didn't like it fan service alone wouldn't be enough to drop a show.

I'm a completionist and hate fanservice so I don't really have a choice but to force myself to finish what I start. However, if an explicit scene appears even for a split second I won’t hesitate to not recommend the show

I don't mind ecchi, but generally if a moment seems to break the tone and intent, I might drop it if it happens 3 times or more in 5 episodes. Like, if the hero is known to be a pretty sweet, straight-edge sort of guy and ends up in a less-than-innocent appearing situation and ends up dogpiled for it, that's going to annoy me to no end. This tends to go for most "accidental" ecchi moments, I just find them annoying.

Anime fan service is usually not offensive. So I don't care about it, unless it is sexualizing male characters. Usually it sexualizes females, so I guess that is OK.

As much as I tend to dislike fanservice, I can generally put up with it in the shows I watch, I think the only show I ended up dropping due to it was Seikon no Qwasar. Now granted I dropped that show over a decade ago so my memory of it is vague but as I recall, it seemed the fanservice was pretty tonally inconsistent with other aspects of the show? I remember one of the first episodes opened with a girl getting brutally murdered in a church, with the implication that a number of people had been killed there in similar manner. Regardless, the setup lead me to believe the show was going to be pretty dark and twisted but then the next three episodes or so was just focused almost entirely on fanservice it felt like. By that point I had grown tired of it so I dropped it, but that's the only example I can think of off the top of my head.

@deltahalo241 seikon no qwaser inconsistent? You definitely watched that show blind. That show was a erotica before the tag was invented. It's practically power up by sucking boobs and the show is really consistent on that matter.

So this is a thread for people who want to imagine a sexless world or something?

Like, having no interest in it, or disliking certain types makes perfect sense to me. If every time some female characters are in the bath, they start fondling each other's boobs disregarding any protest, for instance, that stuff is annoying and almost certainly breaks characterisation to anyone in the audience to whim a girl is more than just their erogenous zones. But disliking any sort of sexual fanservice? That's really starnge to me.

I wont drop something solely for having sexual content, it's a more nuanced situation for me based off of how intrusive and playing into non-consent it is, as well as how frequently it shows up when it has those elements I don't like. There isn't a "one size fits all" answer for me.

For an outsider opinion simply for the archives, none. No, I'm not here to shame anyone who doesn't want to watch fanservice stuff.

Having watched older TV and catching up on it today, I can say that my fanservice limit had been eradicated since.... ages ago. There have been scenes in shows with strip clubs, there has been the "male gaze camera" gag, and off screen topless gags on real live action shows. I also remember Species 2 being aired on TV (all access antenna, by the way) during COVID and that was Urutsukudoji levels of body gorn.

I'm glad there are people who know what they like and what they don't like. Carry on.

@DesuMaiden If you don't like male characters getting sexualised, then you should be in a very good place to understand female viewers not liking female characters getting sexualised, and will certainly not be in a place to complain about anyone complaining.

The answer is none.

The more fanservice the better; it helps spice things-up and humor derived from sexualization is what generally make me laugh during these shows to begin with.

Also, it keeps tourists, puritans, prudes, and generally insufferable away from the series, wich is always a net positive. Especially if that sexualization involves what they consider an "underage character".

Those people are really a blight upon the anime community...

Depends on if I'm expecting it and in what context. Also how much of it there is. I can ignore it if, and I mean if, it's not in your face. And it's not every female character.

anime fanservice is usually in a sweet spot if it exists and doesn't become a plot point. most of the time it's harmless because this is broadcast on TV. ecchi is for denisovans and actual porn is for homo erectus. we don't fw that shi in big 2025.

I dont think I've ever dropped a show because of it but I really dislike when a show suddenly decides to exploit a character that used to be treated with some dignity. Steins Gate 0 is a pretty good example of this.

@logopolis

Women should not be stumbling their way into male-centric shows and then complain about the sexualization of female characters when that's what the vast majority of the targeted public (mainly young teenage boys) desire, to begin with.

Not only are they out of line in that situation; they are beign selfish and irrational about it. They are DEMANDING change to be accomodated in a space that wasn't even meant for them in the first place and who probably should stay out for the betterment of everyone if they are gonna bitch and whine about it.

The same is true about males in female-scentric shows tho; in no way or capacity should a man complain about female fanservice on a show targeted to GIRLS first and foremost because he is not the who the show was made for to begin with and they might hace different priorities than he has. I agree with you on that matter.

@Otakupervert890 I did admittedly go into the show pretty blind, I believe I decided to check it out because it ranked at the top of someones list for shows but I didn't really look further into it beyond that and I doubt I could find the list again today if I tried.

It depends on the show, and the type of fanservice, fanservice where a dude trips and he perfectly lands groping a woman, and things parallel i can't stand, but a beach episode here or there, or some bath scenes doesn't hurt anyone.

I gave like "3 more strikes and i'm out" to Dakara boku-ha H ga Dekinai because of the useless fan service overflowing episode 1, and maybe episode 2 - I don't really remember this ecchi well except for that, but i completed it.

@animegamer245 I look for different things in video games than I do in anime. Fun gameplay is the only thing that matters much in video games.

It's more a question of quality than quantity. I once dropped a series on the first fanservice scene because it was too ridiculous, but I have also enjoyed series full of it and, in some cases, I didn't even dislike the fanservice despite not being the target.

I mostly skip ecchi shows entirely instead of dropping them. If the premise interests me enough I'll try to stick with the show to the end. I watched all of Redo of Healer so I don't think I'll drop a show because of its ecchi to be honest.

For me, it really depends on how tasteful the fanservice is, if that makes sense. I'm mostly fine with the ecchi in Food Wars, because it can be funny. I don't often drop shows, especially only because of the fanservice, so it has to be to the point where the show is blatantly throwing out fanservice shots for no reason. But I'm usually pretty good at avoiding those kinds of shows altogether in the first place, so....the only show I could think of where I dropped it due to the fanservice is No Game, No Life. Well even without it, I thought the show was completely stupid, but the fanservice and Steph's existence was the tipping point.
