At a recent media Q&A event hosted by TheWrap’s Raquel Harris, Aniplex producer Sota Furuhashi and A-1 Pictures animation producer Atsushi Kaneko were asked if they could share anything about Solo Leveling Season 3. Sung Jinwoo’s voice actor, Aleks Le, chimed in, adding that he would also like to know, when Furuhashi added (via Mama’s Geeky YouTube channel):

“I think that’s the toughest question I’ve had tonight. I think more than anyone, I am anxiously awaiting a Season 3! But in truth, between Season 1 and Season 2, 220,000 frames of animation were created,” he said, attracting surprise from the audience. “And of course, I’d love to give the animators a little breathing room. So, if it were up to me, I’d say let’s wait until the next Olympics to see what’s going to happen with a Season 3. But to get to that 220,001st frame of animation, I think that’s up to more up to Kaneko-san and A-1 Pictures.” It’s worth noting that in a recent Reddit AMA, it was revealed that a Solo Leveling episode took around 10 months on average to complete, with the longer ones taking 12 months.

just sharing

reminder that an anime project consist of multiple teams like 1 cour anime usually have 3-5 teams rotating in parallel to produce an episode so its not like 1 team is only making each episodes that takes 12 months to complete, anime production is all about multitasking of many teams that is why outsourcing to other studios is common too especially this days

2028? That’s way too much to launch a new season.

Maybe they really want to create a legendary season. The last season was on fire, I like it, but I hope it will be even better next time.

I wonder how the hype will look like seeing as this is three years from now. Oh well, with that amount of time they should be able to churn out something worth the wait.

@Zarutaku that only happens with my hero academia sadly, a recent example is fire force that took 5 years before season 3 airs right now, same with attack on titan season 2 and one punch man season 3 they took a lot of years too before they air, and bleach finale took 10 years?

also the producer is likely waiting for the main staff of the old season to be available since all talented staff are usually busy with next anime projects and if they did not plan solo leveling to be a complete anime adaptation at first then surely other anime projects will hire the talented staff that worked on solo leveling old seasons, and we know anime production usually takes 1-2 years at the least amount of time so a 3 year wait seems more likely with what we know on how anime production works

The director is rumored to be busy with other projects. Kaneko is a pretty solid producer from A1. I'm sure he's wise enough to not drop an huge IP as solo leveling.

quality or quality which one u prefer
if it's fantasy isekai i prefer quantity over pplr shows
can't they hire more people now
anime getting popular day by day
they should hire more free lancers and make more projects while it's hot!!!!

@SoloNecromancer developing or training talented animators and directors takes a lot of time and sadly with anime overproduction this days the veteran animators cannot teach young animators properly so they left with hiring amateur webgen animators on twitter for example that just lowers the quality of anime a lot this days but ye there are webgen animators that are talented but majority of them are low quality animators, thats why there is a group trying to educate young animators called nafca https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2024-12-02/.218298

If they wait until 2028 to release a new season, it could really kill the hype around Solo Leveling. But there’s also an upside: it would give the teams more time to really polish the project. Season 3 is going to cover one of the best arcs from the manhwa. I already didn’t like the animated fight between Jin-Woo and Beru at all… so if they mess up the iconic battle between Jin-Woo and Thomas Andre, a lot of fans are going to be disappointed.

@Elizatonne78 believe me they are not starting production right now with this so this is not a 3 year production for a 1 cour anime at all, like i explained the producer is likely waiting for the old main staff to be not busy with other new anime projects

Hmm, a statement based on nothing, but I always had a feeling that SL was one of the main reasons for not continuing of 86 yet, even if it's not the same core staff; if rumors start to arise about an 86 continuation, this might be proven. Aside from that hit series by them, I'm not sure what else exactly A-1 would put all those efforts on.

I’m with Furuhashi on this. Letting the production take its time is both a healthier approach for the people working on the show and almost always leads to a better product by the end

Black Butler although it's with Clover works now so that's a pretty good swap.

7 Deadly Sins.... well you know how this went

they've also got cases like 86 where they only adapted a small amount and haven't done anything else since

@Zarutaku The overwhelming success and ubiquitous popularity sold it. Hence seasons per year. Unlike Demon Slayer, Solo Leveling is not at all popular in Japan, but it is so anywhere else.

it was not A1 that dropped the 7DS IP. it was aniplex. They dropped it since the show was heavily underperforming. Blacl butler is still an aniplex IP and it is now being produced by Cloverworks, which is another subsidiary of Aniplex like A1

It is still too soon to think that 86 has been dropped.
