@MrPositron blue lock is literally “action” shonen but instead of fighting with fists they fight with football. It is not really a sport show
Most sport animes have these “distractions” as you call them. You need the character + world development.
Maybe sport genre is not for you
You would probably like inazuma eleven
Haikyuu is somewhat between a typical sport anime and action shonen.

@UaEfAlCoN83 It is a sports show. Just because it focuses more on the actual action and game doesn't mean it's not. It marries the development with the actual games better than other sports anime do from what I've seen. Strikes a good balance of having the development of characters happening in the game like Kuroko's basketball did. Inazuma Eleven is lame and Haikyyu is monotonous the whole time except for the last game of the season. The only good sports anime I feel like I've ever seen are Hajime no Ippo, Kuroko's Basketball, and Diamond no Ace. Ahiru no Sora was good too.

@MrPositron I see a pattern on the animes you mentioned Again yes blue lock is sport but still not the typical People have different tastes For me kuroko is not that good but definitely better than blue lock ahiru no sora is bad Hajime no ippo is boxing so it is a bit different We just have different tastes I like how slam dunk and ao ashi are written I hope you would enjoy this season though… instead of spending time on something you won’t like

No superpowers, no exaggeration, it's all action and drama related to the sport. Ao Ashi is the same and that's why I love it. If anything, anime like Blue Lock and Inazuma Eleven are the mix between sports and shounen. Inazuma Eleven especially, it's a straight up shounen anime where the theme just happens to be football, it's barely a 'sports' anime. |

@pasananthony Haikyuu has no superpower bs yes but it has the “fast tempo” where hinata jumps while his eyes closed but other than that it is generally pure sport But it involves the “action” feeling because of how fast the games are. This is why many people who hate sport animes loved haikyuu Doesnt mean it is bad … haikyuu’s manga is 10/10 for me so don’t get me wrong I only hated the last few seasons because of the pacing but other than that it is a perfect sport manga/anime Haikyuu, slam dunk, ao ashi, major, diamond no ace (first act) are all top sport animes Blue lock’s author was the one who said that his manga is an action manga with football theme Ao ashi is the beat football anime to be honest better than blue lock, tsubasa, and all other ones

@mo_lave you will never get no game no life 2 for many reason Mad house shifted interest after losing many of their animators Also the author apparently wants people to read the novel + they didn’t profit much from the movie apparently Maybe in the next few years because the industry is changing

@UaEfAlCoN83 yh, I mean anime in general are larger than life so even with the most realistic ones you expect a little sprinkle of something special like Hinata's zero tempo and Ashito's field of vision. Sports anime generally should have action, strategy and drama aspects imo. The other user complained about distractions but I agree with you cuz the players are people and what happens in their lives off the field affects their game. Ao Ashi captures all of that really well so I'm super looking forward to season 2. Hope TMS gets a proper budget cuz they're definitely a capable studio.

@UaEfAlCoN83 No you don't see a pattern. Those are really different sports anime. I didn't say I didn't like it. I just said that Blue Lock is more efficient in how it has the characters develop during the game. Ao Ashi isn't bad at that. Slam Dunk is awful at it though, spending several episodes on thugs trying to beat them up or learning how to do a damn layup.

@MrPositron Ok bro I don't see a pattern you can enjoy whatever you want ... we just don't agree which is fine I definitely don't agree with "Blue Lock is more efficient in how it has the characters develop during the game" ... saying "I need to find the missing piece" is the most random development that doesn't come with real effort. Having 15 characters develop in one episode is random and very action-shonen-like in my opinion which doesn't happen in real life. Again we don't need to agree

@aurora_yuuki Because fictional sport matches bore the yawns out of me, and there are too many of them in sports anime.
