While this may be the best looking episode yet visually, the writing comes off as so laughably amateurish that I can't even take it seriously. The bad guys in this episode are a prime example:

"I am a bad guy because I mistreat women, drug them, and take advantage of them! I am also a stock bro! My partner in crime also uses AI! We are bad guys!"

If you want to have characters that are sexist against women, break the law, or are fake artists in it for the fame and fortune, there are better, more nuanced ways of writing it. This comes off as if an inexperienced college student is writing this. Same as last week.

Have we even established what Doug, Christine, and the blonde kid even do? Doug seems smart and calculated, but hasn't been established as the brains or strategist of the team. All we know about him is that he drives and a someone in college said a racist thing to him once. Christine is supposed to be the hot woman, I guess? She doesn't seem to have any special skills, such as espionage or even detective skills. The blonde kid is just there to be a punching bag, I guess. And use the occasional drone.

I'm not even sure what this wants to be at this point, it just feels like it's checking off a list of bad things to criticize.
@takkun_ I almost got up when he said “females don’t know anything”. The writing is suffering from too much breaking the fourth wall dialogue. I want to be immersed and care about these people but instead I’m distracted by an over abundance “hey I know that thing” moments. I don’t need this universe to explain what ai is and how it could be used in a bad way.

@Penteano this one is crossdressing for the lulz, not some victimism bull like ep 3
@MichaelJackson yeah but the anime itself got very boring. Dude jumping like a rabbit every time he has the chance look more like "hey mom, look, no hands" child behavior, it's exaggerated. If they'd tone it down a bit it'd be great. The history is not all good either (it could be)

It's interesting how each episode starts with the reason why each charracter took happna. This time it was Eleina, and it seems she took it to make her self happier (hinting at a depressive state she was at the time). Before we got Leland's reason, in episode 2, where he said he took it for the euphoria it gave, taking the place of other drugs or alcohol. In episode 3 it was Christine, and it was for to get over a heartbreak, apparentaly.

I must say this episode was bittersweet.
The bitter part is, because we are already at episode 4, and it seems we aren't getting anywhere with the story. I was really excited after last episode, because it seemed we were getting somewhere, and also getting to know more of the characters, but this episode had none of that. We ended up with the usual "No one knows where Skinner is, but this next hint we have will know". And in terms of explorating more the setting, they aren't doing much. In fact, this episode I actually forgot they were going to die in 24 days, thank you for the reminder at the end, because people seem really chill with that.
Also, we are already at episode 4, and we still don't know much of the characters, we don't even know why they are in that group or why they are so sought after. We can see that Eleina is a really good hacker, that Axel is good at parkouring, and this episode that Christine is really good at physical combat, I suppose. I suppose we can say the same for Doug, although we haven't see that much from him. But what about Leland? What's his role in this? I thought he was more of an "engineer", when they showed he was controling a drone in episode 1, and also did the same this episode, but they never showed us Leland building something or the others mentioning something along the lines that he's the only one able to control the drones or whatever. He's also constantly been sent out for these missions, when he has 0 fight abillities, and I wonder why they do that? Isn't it just dangerous for the mission if he gets captured?

Anyways, now talking about the sweet part: Christine's fight was really cool. And when Axel joined they did some really good fight scenes. The overall style of the anime is a whole vibe honestly. I still stand by that. And Christine was just really OP this episode, made it so much better! It also seems they really want to pair Christine with Axel a lot. The action scenes were incredible, and carried the episode. That last scene with Axel going on with the helicopter and then letting the bad guys in the river was amazing! The best episode in terms of action so far!

Overall, I'm still really excited to see where this anime goes, because it has the potential!

Hahaha their reaction to Sam. Leland as a woman, why, and then Visionary having something for him, hahaha. So Visionary was Dr. 909, that was kinda easy for being a world-famous hacker. So Delta Medical knew beforehand about hapuna’s downfall.

Animation is great, the action sequences are super smooth, the music is fantastic, but the actual story is so incredibly shallow for what it is supposed to be portraying. I am getting very close to dropping this.

The problem is I have to fill in too many gaps to get to the point where this series makes sense. It is not that I need to be held by the hand and have everything told to me in an exposition dump, but there is a lack of showing the world as much as there is a lack of explanations of important lore that would help establish the world and answer a lot of questions. I am certain by establishing more worldbuilding it would not detract or ruin the suspense or mystery of the show.

The characters are also very shallow and one dimensional and the English dub does not help this point at all.

Very disappointed at this point.

Time to continue following the breadcrumbs another week. This time, through cyber wallets. Suppose we do have to have our guy whose only interest is partying with pretty girls. If the world is ending, some will party like there's no tomorrow.

They sure got a fancy looking club to visit tho. All the neon purple lights and a plan to sweep him out his turf. Leave it to the hot lady to sort it out (I blame the target for having poor taste).

Really dj dude letting us down 💀 leaving everything music and stock business to AI algorithm. This is our future, however many years down the line. And rip the punch bowl.. scummy business that needed to get shut down. Needed a dommy lady to rough him up some.

Man those two know how to dance with a gun. You know, you know.

rip to the straight up lead, but they delivered some justice. Suppose the hackers can spend part of their illegal fortune on the legal system now.

Well that mission was ultimately pointless in the end.

That being said, I enjoyed this episode more than the previous 3 due to its action choreography. The whole nightclub scene was breathtaking even if everything led nowhere in the end.

I've been kinda harsh on this show but to be fair the last 2 episodes really soured the impression I initially had from it. This last one not only thanks to the action but some of the beats and small gags hitting may give me hope that by the end I'll end up liking it. However as of now I'm still on the fence of it being a disappointment.

Next episode.

From front to end this episode is and looks awesome. It's like they dumped most of the budget for episodes 1-4 into this one, considering how shakey the animation quality is in the others.

So they arrested this dude for gross economic crimes, but absolutely no one cares that the guy ran his own version of Epstein Island? It bothers me a little that this part of his personality was simply written as an excuse to show us that he's an asshole, instead of being a serious abuse, that also deserves severe punishment. But aside from that, even though the episode was pretty simple in concept, I like that they're starting to reveal the whole team instead of just one MC. You can actually believe that the whole team is cool and not just there to complement the main character.

Also, artificial intelligence that successfully invests in the stock exchange for you? This sounds like a wet dream of any marketing frauders, lmao. Especially if this shit can also bet on sports and make money from financial pyramids.

@LostSpectre The fight choreography here could easily challenge Wind Breaker, which is an accomplishment in itself. But for now, it feels like just another sci-fi original anime that could be hit or miss depending on how it develops.

So the authorities only care about the money fraud and not the fact that he had drugged and raped countless girls? Talk about the priorities of the government. Spinner seems justified in what he's doing, except for the fact that he's targeting the whole world and not just the elite of the world against whom his rage should be targeted.

Also, that AI was kinda funny. Seems like they have learned to say no instead of making up some BS answer. And the fact that it can predict something as fickle as the stock market is impressive in and of itself.

Sad Bebop rip-off continues. We needed a five ep intro for the characters and much better design/distinctive dialogue. Every anime usually has this, just not this one. Every SOL, every shounen has characterization. Instead, just cool platitudes. Watanabe didn’t even think it was worth telling a story.

The most cynical anime in existence. Hopna is also a stupid name, and the deaths aren’t violent and grotesque like they should be (from the drug). Zombification was a possibility. The series is so poorly written. Honestly hope they end it with all of them dying, I don’t like a single one.

It’s like we started midstream, this is like eps 11-13 right now. Sloppiest thing I ever watched.

the plot started off pretty mediocre, but the action in the second half of the episode really redeemed it for me. The helicopter scene and fights leading up to it were quite enjoyable and I was impressed by the animation for a lot of it.

For Axel to hang from a helicopter like that, his grip strength must be insane.it's honestly ridiculous. He might’ve taken some kind of drug to pull that off.
Anyway, it looks like we’re getting closer. What are they doing to the monkeys in that lab? Please, someone save the monkes.

This episode was a lot better than previous two episodes.

I am starting to notice the chase scenes are better than the fight scenes but this had a better fight scene than previous ones.

Enjoyed the music in the episode going gives a nice vibe.

What a fantastic episode this time! MAPPA is the real deal, hontou ni sugoi! They have been able to bring action scenes like in Hollywood movies, which we rarely find in an anime. Not only that, this episode also has lots of funny scenes! But unfortunately, all the things that happened in these 24 minutes didn't really give any clues about Skinner's whereabouts...

Leyland made me laugh so much in this episode—he was insanely funny! 😂

Also, Doug has zero dancing skills, but hey, he got the job done.

This anime is insanely good! I normally don’t like action anime, but I’ve fallen in love with this one. Wow, wow, wow! Four episodes in and I’m burning with hype.

Christian's legendary slap to Sam was epic! I’m making a top 3 list of best anime slaps—one of them is from Quintessential Quintuplets when Itsuki slapped Nino, another from DanMachi when Freya slapped Ishtar, and now this one! It was so satisfying!

The AI made me laugh when it said “No no ya desu” 😂😂😂

Also, this duo is incredible!

I love slice-of-life works.
