| I think it's a matter of the characters being on an equal level. Single gender casts theoretically remove the power dynamic between men and women and thus tend to make for more honest interactions. This would not be the case if mixed gender shows were written by people who accepted male-female interactions as normal and not some weird alien dynamic, but too often, they are biased by their gender politics. Not thay this doesn't happen in single gendered anime either. Madoka is an all female main cast, but the writer through the male Kyubey can't resist saying every historical woman got her accomplishments from aliens. |
| I do not believe fiction should have forced token characters at all. Not every series needs every race or an equal amount of men and women. That should be up to the creator with no outside pressure. |

@MelodyOfMemory honestly this is why I enjoy Fairytail because the main Cast of charcters feel like natural friends and their is basically no romance between the main charcters
