I never really get the hype for Singualr Gendered Anime where the main cast is predominantly Female And predominantly male. I really Enjoy when the main cast has an equal ratio with males and females and I notice the writingsfor charcters tends to be better.

I think it's a matter of the characters being on an equal level. Single gender casts theoretically remove the power dynamic between men and women and thus tend to make for more honest interactions. This would not be the case if mixed gender shows were written by people who accepted male-female interactions as normal and not some weird alien dynamic, but too often, they are biased by their gender politics.

Not thay this doesn't happen in single gendered anime either. Madoka is an all female main cast, but the writer through the male Kyubey can't resist saying every historical woman got her accomplishments from aliens.

Only if the writers are capable of making it work. Many male mangaka seem incapable of writing good female characters and I find that casts that are mostly one sex and written by that sex are often better written because of it. Unlike the OP, I find that mixed main cast anime tend towards being stereotypical and unconvincing in the interactions between the male and female characters.

@MelodyOfMemory honestly this is why I enjoy Fairytail because the main Cast of charcters feel like natural friends and their is basically no romance between the main charcters

I do not believe fiction should have forced token characters at all. Not every series needs every race or an equal amount of men and women. That should be up to the creator with no outside pressure.

@Lol1268 I dunno what Fairy Tail you have seen, but in the one I have seen, there are multiple couples within the guild.
Kingdomcome Deliverance II GOTY 2025

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is another worthy GOTY contender I tip my fedora to Sandfall Interactive, excellent debut gentlemen!

Nah, but I'd like to see more female main characters in battle shonen anime.

I think that the ratio doesn't matter, the best thing for the story is to feel natural and feating with characters being well written disregarding gender, digimon adventure has a 5-3 split of men and women as main characters and the third girl doesn't enter to be a main character until halfway through the story yet there's never a feeling Sora and Mimi are treated badly because they are girls (well if we forget dub Mimi, dub Mimi was misogynistic and awful) and are arguably the best characters in the show
Most characters in dead dead demon's are girls yet it never feels like gender plays a role in how good the characters are, all are great
Gender only matters for quality of writing in extreme cases and if there's a disparity between how good characters in different genders are and one gender has more characters my guess is that the problem won't be fixed by a more balanced cast

No, it should be up to the creator and what kind of story they're trying to tell. I've never understood the push for things like that, forcing something like that comes off shallow, gives off a try hard vibe and usually takes away from any depth the story and characters would have had and then everything becomes superficial and turns the whole thing to crap.

No, that's just stupid, stories are not and should not be bounded by that.

I think there should be less anime watchers that think in the same fashion as OP

This ratio of female vs male characters is obviously completely irrelevant.

Care to elaborate? And what are some examples?

I've never once thought about the "gender ratio" of the cast, or that "this anime would be so much better if there are more girls/guys in it." Maybe I just haven't seen enough anime?

I believe the quality of writing has nothing to do with the gender of the characters... either they're well-written or they're not.

No, there should be at least twice as many females.

Absolutely not. In fact, sometimes I don’t want any males at all. Ikkitousen should have been female only.

To answer your question in the title... NO!

You're free to have a preference of mix cast, male cast, female cast, but your personal preferences do not dictate how the OG creators tell their stories and write their characters

No, it doesn't make a difference in the story or character quality. If the author isn't great at writing characters and their relations, an equal ratio of genders wouldn't help.
