| Well, I enjoy Japanese anime shows, as long as those shows are of good-quality. I think Kantai Collection, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Date a Live, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Sailor Moon are good anime shows because I like the waifus in them. |

| Actually, I think they have very good taste. I enjoy watching the anime shows that Japan produces. In fact, I'm watching one right now. More specifically, I'm watching the Nekopara anime ATM. |

| The Japanese have far better taste than Western audiences. Pandering to Western audiences has caused anime to take fewer risks, and decline in quality. |

| MALtards will never understand it is a matter of audeince capture and marketing and not treat fiction like food. Smartphone recieved a sequel because it was popular internationally, specifically it's light novel sells better internationally than in japan, where it is already relatively high All this stuff people complain about, is also popular overseas. |

Notice Unext is free. https://video.unext.jp/ranking At https://www.anikore.jp/chronicle/2025/spring/ they do rank it at 39th . In goo ranking it is 44th on popularity https://ranking.net/rankings/best-2025-spring-animes#8b5qlw and 48 https://ranking.net/rankings/best-2025-spring-animes2#8b5qlw It doesn't look slightly popular. |

| Not at all, I think Japanese people have pretty good taste. Was TBATE a bad adaptation? Yes. The source material, however, deserves its popularity and more. You don't have to agree, but that is the truth, and despite Anime being global now, anime still airs on Japanese television first, so whether they consider global audiences or not, their priority will always be the Japanese audience. Also, Isekai can be a great form of escapism compared to other "good" shows. Japan has bad working conditions, so Isekai like TBATE or Vending Machine Isekai does so well. Shows with more substance require more thinking or concentration. The last thing I want to do is come home and have to use my brain more to enjoy a show. It's also why action anime (battle shōnens) does well. When you break it down, most shows have bad storytelling; it's a matter of opinion, and opinions are subjective. |

| Japan has a variety of tastes and aren't much different from audiences around the world. A lot of the stuff that people complain about in anime, are in every other media worldwide. I'm talking African shows, Western shows, Latin American shows, live action Asian shows outside of Japan, etc. All of them have: age gap relationships (some featuring minors), incest, cuck/cheating storylines (some are ntr), ugly guys with hot girls, slop shows, etc. People are weird about Japan. Japan isn't that different from the rest of the world, they're really not. Anime is not that different from shows around the world. |

Honestly, more people like it than hate it despite the 5.45 average. It's just the bottom ladder is terribly skewed towards 1 ratings. The anime is only 4 episodes in and the light novel had tremendous success it seems, so the Japanese audience is probably more aware than us, by its potential. The unfolding plot seems pretty interesting, and from the PV the animation and pacing look more than fine. Shows like Reborn as a Vending Machine and In Another World With My Smartphone are typical of Japan : take familiar tropes and yet go full originality. They're a wonderful country known to innovate every day, including bizarre recipes and foods. It can shine or it can fail, but at least they're trying and they're probably having small funs every day. I really think more westerners should also act less conservative once in a while. |

i think the old joke is that Japanese audiences loved SEED way too much, and western audiences loved Wing way too much
| @fbjim Wing's fame was generational. Nobody really talks about it unless they happened to watch it on Toonami. SEED, meanwhile, got a 2nd dub almost 20 years after it aired, followed by a brand new movie in 2024. Wing's success on Toonami also says absolutely nothing about western tastes, as it was the ONLY Gundam available at the time. There is every possibility that G or X or ∀ would have found the same success had they aired instead. And we'd be laughing at weaboos in their Gundam X cosplays. |

| If I were one to complain about how long the isekai trend has stuck around, I'd say "yes". That's entirely on the Japanese audience. But instead of complaining, I choose to be satisfied with the things that are geared towards my tastes. I have no control over what the Japanese audience prefers, so why let it bother me? I take what I can get with this, and I've never had a year that gave me nothing. Hell, I barely have any control over what comes out in my own country. Because no matter what I do, if enough people give something attention and money, that's going to be the focus. Really looking forward to at least a dozen more Minecraft movies that I'll probably eventually cave and watch out of morbid curiosity and boredom. At least I can guarantee I won't directing be paying any money for it. I have some standards |

Feminist themes are a minority of content everywhere in the world (Africa, Latin America, Asian countries outside of Japan, and Western countries). Crying about how Japanese otaku choose to spend their money is insane. Turns out that unlike American "anime fans" buying expensive blu rays, figures, goods, and source material is something Japanese fans do. Meanwhile Americans don't support anime at all. Even paying for Crunchyroll means your money goes to pay some Amrrican animation studio or "translators" in San Francisco. Also stop blaming Japanese for consuming escapist content and start blaming America and China for meddling in Japan's economy. If the youth have an economic future, the demand for isekai will die down. |

No Game No Life sells well over there, and is popular enough to justify continued merchandise production, ranked within the top 50 anime of all time (or just below the top 50) IIRC in some big poll in 2020, ranked highly in Amazon Prime Video Japan poll in 2023 about anime adaptations that people want to see more of, etc. No, it's not the Japanese audiences who have bad tastes, it's the production companies refusing to listen to the will of their audience, both in Japan and the west. |
