The first few episodes of Honey Lemon Soda are pretty weak and generic (though I might not be in a position to judge that properly since I have not watched much Shoujo). Also the adaptation clearly operates on a limited budget which does not help at all. But the second half got me at least interested in the source material. The manga might just suffer from a weak start but improves after 1-2 volumes. Though I do not recommend picking the anime up again.
You mean something like nominating A Sign of Affection for 'Best Drama' instead of 'Best Romance' despite having zero drama?
Yeah, Yona definetly needs and deserves a second season, way more than Honey Lemon Soda does.

| @Hiyajo-san I meant in general. No Shoujo series has ever been nominated for anime of the year. I do remember some other company giving romance of the year to Dangers of the Heart. Shoujo fans were mad. Though unpopular opinion, Honey Lemon Soda wasn't snubbed. Honey Lemon Soda is just average at best, from what I've seen. And yes, please give Yona of the Dawn a second season! Shoujo fans irritate me sometimes. They clamored around Honey Lemon Soda, but not Yona of the Dawn. |

I think no one really talks about 'Given' much. Because that BL is locally [Non-BL fans] popular, I can't quite get why. The side couple are a bit toxic. And the little backstory is not as sad as they said [It was sad but not too sad]. Like 'Sasaki To Miyano' is better than 'Given' by a lot of means [imo] but it is not as locally popular as 'Given'
I can guess it's the music factor that lures people? Idk. If it is based off the Music factor then it is good, I'll accept but if it is based off the 'BL' factor then I'd really say Sasaki to Miyano is better.

| @Cherie_758 I was thinking the same thing. I think that because given is not just based on the romance factor, people are more likely to watch it not realising it was a BL. It is similar to Yuri on Ice (which I know is technically not a BL, but it basically is) where people watch it for the other genre and it just happens to be gay. The only people watching S&M are going to be fujoshi/fudanshi but Given has appeal to music fans, so I think it being more popular makes sense. Sasaki is the 7th currently most popular BL, it should probably be higher but it did release in 2022, which is fairly recent compared to the other top BLs so I think that does put it at a disadvantage. |

Already during anime production Shoujosei recieves the short end of the stick by producing less titles, sequels and a tighter budget. The competition is kinda rigged from the beginning. | @chocchar Though I like Given too, I was really disappointed when it aired and everyone stopped talking about Yuri On Ice. I think it's because Given has more BL tropes, and most of the people watching BL do so because they enjoy such tropes. |

| even if i don't agree with the sentiment, what made something popular, i can understand it... it can be good production quality, good plot/story, or new ways of marketing something, like the use of bots and AI... understanding popularity is not too difficult, if you can use google or chat gpt... but i have to think hard for something what i didn't understand why it became popular,... hm... good question... Death Parade maybe... It was way to serious, but it has a catchy and misleading opening, maybe that helped its popularity |

Your Name. I honestly don't care for it and don't consider it anywhere near the #1 movie on Mal, A Silent Voice deserved that spot because that movie did make me cry. Your Name didn't

| Cowboy Bebop. Peak soundrack, peak characters designs, pretty colours, blah, blah. Very weak writing, too much episodic, some are good but not a lot, the main plot is interesting but they left a lot of info for no reason, the villain is edgy af. | @-LG The writing and execution is really good that's why. It's legitimately hard to find a better series, sure it's a battle shonen but every genre has been done to death if we consider media outside of anime. I wouldn't give a series extra merit because it does something 'different'. OK realistically it's because battle shonen is a popular genre and Hunter x Hunter is a good shonen that appeals to both genders; males for the badass fights and epic payoffs, females to ship Killua with Hisoka and other kinds of degenerate gay shota stuff. |

| I wanted to write Mushoku Tensei but I understand why it is so popular, it's just that the weeb community is saturated with PDFs that can identify with MC, and they don't mind a narrative that treats their degeneration as something normal or funny. So maybe I'll give an example of Violet Evergarden... no.. I understand that too, weebs are simply too easily manipulated by cheap tricks that are supposed to forcefully arouse their emotions "oh, that overdramatized scene where everyone screams and cries made me emotional, that's the peak" xD Maybe Jjk, DS or Solo Leveling? ehh..that's also pretty understandable. I don't know how to answer that question XDD |

| Black clover, kinda.Pretty much every other shonen anime that's popular is better written and has better quality.Magic or power system isn't interesting, character abilities aren't that cool, the fights are mostly mid except the few important and better animated fights and most of the show has pretty bad animation.Characters aren't memorable either.World Building could have been much better.Only good things I can say is that the art style is unique and recognizable, character design is decent and the openings are amazing. If there's a show that should've been as popular as black clover it's probably Fire Force because- better production, more interesting plot, cool abilities, etc Also op I agree about "I want to eat your pancreas" it's not really anything special and not nearly as sad as people online make it out to be.Also I haven't watched "Bocchi the rock" yet but I'm curious as to how a comedy cgdct about a bunch of girls singing is this popular and so high ranked on this site. |

| @JoeChip I think that you misunderstood some things: First, that you can be surprised in a positive way about something you know being popular. In this case something that I think as underground had some recognition which triggered my surprise. Second, what I didn't like was the live action. Its commonly known that anime/manga live actions are mostly bad and my comment was refering to the live action. You can say that is a curse that something becomes popular because it will receive a half-ass adaptation by Hollywood or Netflix. Thats what I was trying to say with my expression. Last but not least, Why would I hate something that I have in my favourites lol I even have gunnm and last order physically. You should stop talking nonsense. Its the second time you do this to me. I hope there is not a third. |

Violet Evergarden and Honey Lemon Soda.
Violet has no personality, and none of the side characters are interesting either. It's a series that sounds good on paper, but the execution is horrible. I got into that series thinking that Violet was one of the best written female characters in anime. I was thoroughly disappointed. That's the last time I trust the opinions of men who only watch Shounen and mainstream Seinen.
Honey Lemon Soda was a drop the first episode. It did nothing for me. I'm sorry, my fellow Shoujo girlies, but I disagree with y'all on this series. This series is trash and didn't deserve any nominations. I dislike the Crunchyroll Awards a lot, and I do think that they snub a lot of Shoujo and Josei in favor of Shounen and Seinen. Honey Lemon Soda is NOT one of those series. I get that they're excited for more Shoujo adaptations. I'm excited as well, and Honey Lemon Soda getting a second season is good for Shoujo. However, I really hate that Honey Lemon Soda of all series is getting a second season. It's literally a worse version of Kimi ni Todoke. Yona of the Dawn can't get a second season, but THIS series can?

| @Swyzen She was bland and emotionless, and the side characters weren't much better. Just because she's strong, doesn't mean she's a good character. Honestly, none of the characters in that anime were well written. They weren't even fun or compelling characters. It's a very overrated anime, and Violet herself is a very overrated character. Even when she gets emotions at the end, she's still boring and bland. I liked 2 episodes. The one where she's star gazing with a guy, and the episode where she's writing letters for the little girl's mom. Looking at the episode of the sick mom and her daughter, the show would've been much better if they had centered it around the little girl. She actually had a personality, she was a flawed but sympathetic character, and it would've been interesting to see her growing up and learning to cope with her mom's death, and eventually moving on. We see snippets of it at the end of the episode. Could've been a great concept for the show in general. It was pretty much the only episode that made me feel something. |

| @ApfelMyName Yao Ling and Winry both have very memorable dramatic scenes so that makes sense. Edward I don't really get the appeal of either, all he does is get angry and fight then get angry and fight maybe get angry and fight again or he'll convince someone else not to kill/some other good guy sht. He doesn't seem to develop in any interesting way. At some point it just becomes forgettable white noise. He should've been tested more for someone who tried to play God and got punished for it, the fullmetal alchemist thing comes off as a quirky accessory or cool dark past rather than something truly haunting and cursed. |

None of the girls did something special (maybe Ayame did something, but it's only for Hina to accept her already known fate) and Taiki was a douchebag to even wait to give Hina an answer after a damn cour. Yeah, these were my biggest gripes with Blue Box. It's not the worst anime ever, but I don't understand how that anime can be a good "romance" anime if nothing of that sort even happens here. |
