Asmik Ace opened an official website for the Hyakuemu. (100M.) movie on Monday, revealing the lead cast, additional staff, a teaser visual (pictured), and trailer. The anime movie adapting Uoto's sports drama manga will open in theaters in Japan on September 19.

Voice actors Toori Matsuzaka (Hello World) and Shouta Sometani (Bakemono no Ko) are starring as Togashi and Komiya, respectively.

Yasuyuki Mutou (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Tokyo Revengers) is penning the script. Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Ahiru no Sora, Jujutsu Kaisen) is composing the music.

Kenji Iwaisawa (Ongaku) is directing the movie at Rock'n Roll Mountain. Keisuke Kojima (Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life) is serving as both the character designer and chief animation director.

Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), Pony Canyon, and Asmik Ace are producing the movie, with the latter two also credited for distribution.

Uoto (Chi. Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite) serialized the manga on the Magazine pocket service between November 2018 and August 2019. Kodansha published the fifth and final volume in October that year.

On-Gaku was amazing, and Rock'n Roll Mountain is basically a one man studio, so I think this one will be really good as well.

@kuroneko99 dont think so. umamusume is a nice balanced blend between CGDCT and spokkon. a blend that accuratly exemplifies what you can get in anime that you wont get in any other media outside Japan. this movie is based on an Uoto manga and he ruins his stories with annoying characters. Its also directed by some tryhard who would fit better in Europe with all those boring experimental aka pretentious animators.

@MichaelJackson I'm not familiar with the original manga or its author, but I'm intrigued that this is the third (or fourth, counting Rain) anime about running in the last 5-10 years. Is running that popular in Japan or is it just the easiest way to make an intense show about athletics?

I'm not sure if I was called or not, but anyway... Sprint is not popular in Japan, since there is no fast runner. Your second guess is partially right. The author was fascinated with the astonishing fact that many years of effort may be just ruined by a failure of a fraction of a second.

In 2016, I happened to be watching the preliminaries for the 100m sprint at the Rio Olympics on TV, and there was an athlete who was disqualified for a false start. His next chance might be four years from now, and it might even be his last Olympics. When I thought about it like that, I realized it was an incredibly tense world. Like, "It's going to end before I can even run." Losing without being able to fight is decided by a single momentary event. I thought it was strange. So I looked into whether there were any manga based on the 100m sprint, but there were very few, so I decided I wanted to draw one.
You can read his actual words here. He also said "I want to depict the radiant moments of life".

@kuroneko99 Thanks for the reply. I'm just amazed at how many track and field anime we've gotten in recent years. Granted, two thirds of them are Uma Musume, lmao.
