@HokutoMumyoZan I get that "Only Yesterday" is not for everyone and it's not in my top favorite Ghibli films, but that movie has a lot more merit than you're giving it credit for. It doesn't have a dramatic destination (or even a dramatic journey), but it's not aimless either and I highly doubt Isao Takahata was pandering to anyone or anything when he made the movie. It sounds like you're saying that "Only Yesterday" is generic and plays it too safe, but I'd disagree. An older audience who can reflect back on their childhood and relate to feeling echoes of the past in their present would likely get the most of watching it, which will narrow the number of people who enjoy this movie, but that was likely intentional. It does not have a broad appeal, but it took that risk and that's part of its charm.

EDIT: Also note-worthy that apparently Disney didn't release this film because it included discussions of menstruating. Not sure if it's true or not, but I wouldn't put it pass Disney to be like that.
@bucciest Not to be mean, but this movie was very.... "woman's movie". Not a bad thing. Some of my favorite movies that are female orientated are Mermaids, Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, and The Boyfriend School, and a Japanese movie that I really enjoyed that was about youth romance, nostalgia and childhood experiences was Crying Love At The Center of The World. The oncoming of menstruation isn't even a problem to me, nor half of the problems I have with Only Yesterday, though.

Even the ones I hate weren't a total waste and I had some sort of fun with them.
I dropped the ones which were actually wasting my time.

Tokyo Ghoul..........started off decent—the first season was pretty solid. But from the second season on, it got confusing fast. At some point, I genuinely had no idea what was going on.

@HokutoMumyoZan I'm not sure if it's the state of this website that has you making those disclaimers or if I should be second-guessing that it was meant to be taken as an insult, but I don't think that a movie being a woman's movie is a bad thing. It goes without saying that "Only Yesterday" focuses on a woman's story, but the basis of the film is gender neutral to me overall. It could've easily been about a man and his memories as a boy (and I'm familiar with Japanese cinema, so could see "Only Yesterday" translating to live action just as easily with whichever gender for the protagonist). The menstruation mention wasn't to say that you had an issue with it, but to point out that the mainstream American film industry was squeamish about "Only Yesterday" and Isao Takahata didn't create the film to appeal to them. It's fine to not like "Only Yesterday" and find it to be dull, but I was too baffled by parts of your original comment to not to respond, and I happened to see another comment you made about Ghibli films in another thread, which made it more obvious to me that we have very different opinions on them and I'm going to have to agree to disagree and move on.

99% of animes i used to watch when i was young and dumb. I watched literally everything while most anime is trash.

Now i watch very selectively and carefully approach the choice of anime to watch

But then i watched all sorts of trash like Fullmetal Alchemist or Guren Lagan

Damn i even survived 10 episodes of One Piece, an anime that i consider the worst anime of all time and generally one of the worst things done by humanity (probably even worse than atomic bomb)

I'll say it, Science fell in love and I tried to prove it. My least favorite anime that I have ever watched and has put me off of romance anime as a whole for a long time to come :(

Cute High Earth Defense club Love! Love! Love! I adore the series otherwise, but literally 30 minutes of this 50 minute OVA is a Clipshow Recap. It's not cute, it's not useful, It's just padding because They did barely a Normal Episode length of work.

@HokutoMumyoZan I get what you're saying. It wasn't one of my favorite Ghibli films either and I definitely understand what you mean.
@Rally- @HokutoMumyoZan The movie is by "the other" founder of Ghibli, so it doesn't smell like Myasaki for a good reason. It also probably can be best understood after your midlife crisis, so come back for a rewatch at 45 years of age. It will feel very differently then. Actually it is one of the best movies Ghibli ever made.

Well, the eurotrash have come around.... Can't wait to see their Hitler and Stalin reenactments about how "their taste is better than everyone else's".

EDIT: I get how some people here could rub others the wrong way, but if you can't take this impersonally and at worst, know their judgement is all on the writer's own, you have very thin skin and don't know what opinions are.

There were a few that I watched years ago that were terrible, but I really can't remember them. However, one stands out, and that's Genji Monogatari (https://myanimelist.net/anime/3488/Genji_Monogatari). Yes, it's a very well-known classic novel, but it really did not translate well as an animated movie. It was incredibly boring. I watched it during an anime marathon that the anime club I was a member of held for the public. They decided to show this movie. It was not popular at all.

Patlabor is cozy. And it's not long enough to regret watching it.
My biggest regret is One Piece. 908 episodes. 300 hours. 12 days. Can't get my time back.
Another great regret is wasting time on Bleach, Naruto Shippuuden and Fairy Tail.
For short ones, I shouldn't have watched all four seasons of Zero no Tsukaima and all seasons and movies of AOT. That was not necessary at all. Should have stopped after the first parts.

Bleach which is funny since I don't even hate it and find it to be somewhat decent, but the amount of time you need to invest to watch the whole thing even with skipping fillers is just too absurd and not worth it. Even for it's time I don't find it to be unique or derivative enough to truly stand out among other anime of it's kind. Those two hundred or so episodes could've been spent watching so many different and probably more interesting anime.

Aim for the Ace. It was really great at first. The movie and first two seasons were great. Then the third season came and ruined it. The main character went through major character regression. And like... I don't mind having a hard story arc that the character must overcome. The issue is that she's already been through that character arc in season 1, and they repeated the arc and made it much more annoying. I seriously don't get why they did that...

All of them, really, past being an entertainment to pass time they aren't anything worthwhile, but if I had to narrow it down, I would narrow it to the anime that bored me, or I hated, but I still wanted to complete nonetheless, and there's many of those, obviously, most recent being Cowboy Bebop and Pluto, the first have the biggest wasted potential I can think of in anime history and the latter was outright despicable, and I couldn't help but snooze against my own will throughout most of it.

Probably DBZ. I liked the original but found the drawn out fights in DBZ with everyone floating in the air narrating every step by step blow so boring. I only managed to get through it because I had it on in the background. Satan, Bulma and Chichi were the only decent chars, and where was Launch, best char in the original imho. It wasn't terrible, it was just very long and boring most of the time, hence why I'd call it a waste of time, if not for the fact I was always doing something else whilst watching (cooking or looking after the kids usually).
