Well, yeah, because Japan does enjoy their generic isekai trash.
Why do you think that bottom of the barrel garbage like Spirit Chronicles, Smartphones Isekai or Gorilla Isekai even received a sequels?

Putting Spirit Chornicles with those two is harsh

Idk. season 2 of spirit chronicles did feel pretty bad.

edit: oh, wait. is gorilla isekai = fruit of evolution? Then yeah, no season of spirit chronicles is that bad! My fault.

Not very surprising in retrospect. Limited animation is acceptable to many people if there are other elements that are decent, and I feel TBATE has enough even with the animation quality (interesting premise, good drawings, good music). I reckon it’s mainly the core fan base of the webcomic that’s being… very very loud about the animation quality. In reality, a lot of viewers are probably fine with it, if still disappointed that the animation isn’t better. So assuming the core fan base is smaller in Japan, it makes sense it’s doing decently.

Viewership doesn't always mean well received.

https://www.anikore.jp/anime/14941/

Score wise, it's not too far off from what MAL has it rated.

The premise is still good, like any trial and tested isekai show. I wouldnt trash on the story much, but I'll need to store my eyes within a jar of Vinegar, before I watch each episode.

Is still frames the real problem? Yes and No. Still frames are used in any anime. Even Fire force uses a lot of still frames, but the difference is, they use still frames as a mode of story telling, while using proper animation for scenes where its needed. Tbate uses limited animation in places where its not needed and still frames in places where its most important.

Thats the only gripe I got with this show in particular. Even the CGI (movements, not the models) used is better than the overall 2d artstyle and animation. In fact I wouldn't have had any complaints if the entire show was made with CGI of this quality with better models.

Also a point I wanna add to this, Not all shows are streamed in all the known platforms. Most will be TV exclusive in Japan. Like, here, we dont see Abema charts, which is like one of the biggest streaming platforms in Japan. I feel there are many aspects which needs to be taken into consideration here.

100%! There's not many anime out there I don't like and I do appreciate the work done as well. I hope Japan doesn't pay any attention to western bs.

@Random_Noobsss

You look a the percent score which takes scores from all accounts, not the reviews which only takes from reviews. Looking at the review is like looking at MAL's 25 reviews and making up a score based off how only 5 out 25 recommend the show.

Anikore does have far less traffic than every other English anime list sites but it's basically the only Japanese anime list website out there as far as I know. It's not going to give you a definitive answer, but it's still data that can be used to see its reception.

Do we know how this popularity is calculated. Is ratings considered in this calculation or just views? This was highly anticipated and it shows, even on mal where it has one of the highest watching count for the season. For anticipated shows I can see why there would be a lots of views initial weeks. We'll have to see how it fares in the upcoming weeks to judge. Anybody knows how Bluelock season two fared in the middle. That would also give some hints.

I mean it’s popular overseas as well. Echo chambers + the amount of (justified) criticism it’s getting might convince you otherwise, but it’s consistently high up on Crunchyroll’s Popular section. Low budget isekai just tend to perform well in general, and this one gets a boost from having a big fanbase behind it, so it’s really not that surprising.

I just can't trust the taste of the Japanese, no offense to Japan, I love their animes, I love their food, but their taste when it comes to animes is pretty shitty.

I haven't watched this anime and I don't think I ever will, the rating is too low, and I just won't bother watching low-rated animes, and the studio doing this anime also have all their animes below 7, which I consider to be low, so I don't trust this studio either, it seems to be a generic trashy studio.

So when I see threads like this saying that this shitty anime is well received in Japan, then I can't help to think that the Japanese have a shit taste when it comes to anime. I love you, Japan, but your standards in anime are questionable.
