did you even see the teaser? it's clear there. it's a sequel in terms that the story (while not chronologically) is told AFTER the reset.
@GersonSalas
Are you saying it took them 20 years to confirm this relationship?

It is a sequel, even though it does take place in an alternate universe it does still follow the Joestar family.

@Lucifrost fate/zero and stay night DO NOT take place in different timelines at all.
@Pop- bro they do, there are a lot of hints given to establish that they are alternate universe, but you will only get to know when you have played the game and read other things (Eg. the last fight with the caster when saber used Excalibur, in stay night the beam get's deflated on it's own which means that saber can control it but in the game the stay night route saber takes about the boat which help them deflect the beam thus saving the bridge. )

they've kept the manga labeled as a sequel for years, so it's obvious that it's not changing at this point.

as part 7 it's a sequel to part 6, even if the series content isn't a direct continuation.

None are listed as sequels.

Mahoutsukai Sally 2 is not listed as a sequel either even though it is a sequel.

@Lucifrost oh I'm right there with you with some of the inconsistencies on MAL. However I feel like these ones should be connected, as people will naturally continue on from part 6 to part 7. Even just for QoL, you want users to be able to click directly to part 7 from 6.

It is a sequel but u can watch it without seeing part 1-6

Not really. You need to watch Parts 1 and 2 to understand the context for the future parts 3-6. 3-6 are needed to help understand not only Stands but Pucci’s plans with the universe in Stone Ocean which leads to SBR. You need all the parts to understand it all.

I don't know how many times it has to be said, but the ending of Part 6 has absolutely nothing to do with the story of Part 7. 7–9 do not take place after the universal reset, but in a completely separate, unrelated continuity. It's a hard reboot, not a soft reboot.

Sequel is not always a continuation of the prequel. It can also mean the expansion of the same universe and as far as I know JoJo is not isekai.

It’s not the same universe, though.

It is a sequel, but the previous part rebooted the universe, making it also a reboot. It is not mutually exclusive.

Part 6 marks the end of the stories in the old universe. And so begins the new alternate universe. I know the old universe is still there but my point still stands

@Fukoku Literally in the Background section of the manga : 'JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 7: Steel Ball Run was originally presented as an unrelated story to the JoJo series and was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump magazine as Steel Ball Run from issues #8~47 2004. Serialization then transferred to Ultra Jump magazine from issue May 2005 and the series was officially declared as Part 7 of the JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken series.'
So

but my point

doesn't matter in this case when the Japanese publisher named it as Part 7 and not something that won't appear as something unrelated/not a sequel and as @Sasori56483 said

it is a sequel in the same sense that the other parts are sequels, like it is the official next part of jojo (part 7) but it is independent, however it assumes the audience is already aware of lore from the previous parts, especially for some particular aspects and characters

It's a little bit complicated. Steel Ball Run started as a seemingly separate, non-JoJo-related title; just a shonen manga called Steel Ball Run, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. However, 23 chapters later, after moving to Ultra Jump, a monthly seinen magazine, SBR was officially announced as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7, making it an official sequel to the existing JJBA series. Both magazines are published by Shueisha, by the way. ;)

Sure, it might feel like a reboot of sorts, or one could point out its alternative setting loosely tied to the franchise, but despite all the references, similarities to Parts 1-6, and its early history (when it was published in Weekly Shonen Jump), at the end of the day and technically speaking, it's still a sequel. The official seventh Part of the JJBA franchise. So naming it as such is correct. You don't need to be familiar with previous Parts to appreciate the story and not feel lost (though I don't recommend skipping Parts for the best Steel Ball Run experience). Part 7 is independent from Parts 1-6. But as a part of this manga series it's a sequel. Think of it as one, huge seventh story arc, lol.

The teaser could have been confusing for viewers who had forgotten the events of Part 6, although a quick search would likely clear things up. Still, while it was a nice touch from a marketing perspective, it probably made many fans wonder if the anime was going to retcon something established in the manga, even just a little, haha. And let's not forget how King Crimson was used less frequently in the Part 5 manga compared to its anime adaptation. ;p

Who cares if it isn't the same universe, it's a new installment to a franchise much like how Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are labeled by number even though they (mostly) aren't tied to each other. Trailer even goes out of its way to refer to the older entries because y'know, part of shared franchise.
