How old do you think you'll be when you finally age out of anime?

I watched some anime as a kid, got serious about it when I was 12 and had a whole phase from basically 13 - 18 where my primary media consumption was anime and manga. Now I'm 24 and I feel myself slipping farther and farther away from this medium year by year for multiple reasons. I've been trying to cling onto anime/manga, still watching a handful of shows a year and (attempting) to participate in AWC, MRC etc. but I don't want to force myself if it's not as entertaining anymore. I think I'll probably age out of anime and stop watching it completely by the time I reach my mid 30s or so.

I don't think I will age out - I've been watching anime constantly for nine years since I was 13 without burn-out - I will probably watch it until I die.

How old do you think you'll be when you finally age out of music?
How old do you think you'll be when you finally age out of films?
How old do you think you'll be when you finally age out of reading?

Such questions makes no sense, you never "age out" of something.

Imagine implying Anime isn't something enjoyable for adults and implying its a media only for teenagers to enjoy. I actually watched more Anime as an adult while I was too busy playing games and being depressed in my teen years.

The funny part I'm older than you (not by so much) and I never think such things. It's not embarassed for adults to enjoy Anime.
BANZAI NIPPON. Nippon is the Land of freedom. Nippon is the Land of Peace. Nippon is the Land of Justice and Prosperity.

In Nippon, we trust.

We love Nippon, we love Anime. Anime love us, Nippon love us. 日本

Stop forcing it. Accept your current situation and let time pass. You're most likely experiencing burn out, it doesn't mean you don't like anime anymore. You don't appreciate the things you have untill you lose them. Also, by the time your 30 and your waste case scenario does indeed play out, even still liking only 1 anime...that would still make you an anime fan.

Plus, with only 200 entries, you have so much yet to see. And no I dont mean in that in a bad manner, since I have seen less anime than you.

I started anime when I was like 11 ? ( now I’m 23 ) and I had a phase of 2-3 years I didn’t watch much ( do to focusing on my future but I made sure to read a lot of manga ) and when I came back 3-4 years ago , I’ve watched more than I’ve ever done , one time I finished 300 eps in 18 days , another time I did a 120 in 6 days , this is impressive for me who works and study and do house chores as well

So I don’t see myself growing out of it anytime soon , I even have a list “ post graduation anime “ lol

@DesuMaiden No literally never. I've never finished a book in my entire life. Not even kid books. But I think this is extremely common for Americans so it's not culturally shocking. I'm surprised whenever I meet an adult who can manage to actually get through all 40 pages of if you give a mouse a cookie. It's just fascinating

I think it's less to do with age, but more to do with how your taste evolves and how busy you are IRL.

And I can see myself drifting away at some point, but I can just as easily see myself getting back into it.

I used to watch a lot of movies, like 3-4 every week at its peak. I think I've seen 4 in the past 9 months. Too busy with anime these days. But I'm pretty sure I'll get back into movies at some point.

It's similar with video games. It fluctuates up and down, depending on whether there's a game that captures my heart. I was spending almost all of my spare time last Fall/Winter playing Metaphor: ReFantazio, and now I'm in a bit of a lull again.

If your heart is not in it, please stop watching. It might be a good idea to try a few shows here and there, though, as a way to test out how you feel about anime.

My tastes may change, and with that — the types of anime I watch, just like it happened many times in the past. But I find the idea of "aging out" of a whole type of media to be juvenile. I think I have already aged out of aging out.

I thought I did, but I came back watching and be excited about anime again after all so now I don't think I'll ever age out of it. Will most likely slip away from it from time to time, like now actually, but I'm sure I will always come back.

I mean these things happen if you develop other interests or hobbies. But you only completely grow out of it if you let it happen. I watched and read a fair amount of anime and manga in college, but then shortly after I sort of just stopped. I felt like reading more sci-fi and fantasy novels instead or more of my free time was spent baking desserts and such as a hobby. Then a good 6 or so years later, I wasn't really finding any sci-fi or fantasy novels that piqued my interest so I just decided to pick up a manga that did. Next thing I knew I was back in it. I don't watch or read as much anime and manga as I did before or I took a break, but I generally come across at least one or two to keep up in the current season. As for manga I used to read it all the time on the go from my phone and such wherever I was, now I just read a chapter or two on my lunch break or before bed. I have no interest nor the time to try to watch 10 or 20 shows a season as some people do as I got other responsibilities and other hobbies that I want to balance out my life.

Never really. My enthusiasm may decrease, as I get into other hobbies, get busier with work and responsibilities (this has been going on for years) however, I don't see why I would stop enjoying anime like Legend of the Galactic Heroes or Ghost in the Shell. Those are pretty universal stories to me. Will I always get super excited for the next battle shonen hotness? Will I have a point where I stop enjoying anime rom coms entirely? Maybe? Possibly, at the moment I still can enjoy them. That said, especially for romance anime, my appreciation for them, isn't where it once was (due to the YA nature of them).

Honestly I love the anime art style, it's just more the style of writing, with most stories being very YA, that can get a bit tiring after awhile. Though again, I will just move to a different medium for a bit. I don't mind a YA esque story once in awhile.

Man you are missing out. There are some really good books, out there, if you are SFF fan. Getting back into reading fiction, has been a boon for me, and has eaten up time I used to use on anime.

ELA teachers need to offer more free reading time, for kids in schools. Not everyone needs to be reader, however, I do think it's better for society, if we have more people that do read for fun.

If that was going to happen, I think it would have by now. It’s been 27 years since I got into anime. I turned 40 this year, and I still enjoy it as much as I always have. I’ve never had burnout, or wanted to take a break. I could see maybe watching less someday, but I don’t think I’ll ever completely stop.

If "age out" means I'll stop being interested or liking Anime, I doubt it'll happen.
Maybe there'll be a point where I'll stop watching for a very long time if life get so much busier or problematic, or if I start having a family of my own. But I'm pretty sure I'd still appreciate seeing it when I get the opportunity. (I just felt a bit sad imagining it happening; Might be soon for me. T-T)

Anime is a very unique form of media with the type of content it makes. Age isn't the question, but more like when will anime stop being worth while. As far as I'm concerned, any media can be worth the watch despite its format (animated, comic, etc.) so until theres nothing good left to consume, then I'll just keep experiencing it or until I get too busy

Hmmm... just hit my thirties but have not grown out of Anime at all.
On the contrary I just started collecting Blu-Rays of all the shows I watched...

Tho I did start later, around 18 I guess? And I never really got deep into it at all.
Like I just watch a bunch but I never even participated in any discussions around series or such.

Although I did just noticed that it already has been a year since a show really captured my interest so much that it could become a favorite of mine...

So I would say I might get bored out of Anime at one time later in my life, but that really has nothing to do with age for me.

But I think my tastes gonna shift a lot in the future... I am enjoying shows with an adult cast more and more.
Also I am so burned out by new flashy shonen fight shows... like... young me probably would have enjoyed stuff like JJK or Solo Leveling but nowadays I can't bear it anymore.

Just finished Dekineko yesterday and I don't think I was giggling that much while watching an anime the last 3 years or so haha

Never because I am even more into anime that when I was younger. Now with more disposable income to spend I buy figure along with manga and Blu Ray I don't see that changing anything soon. As long they continue to create stuff that interest me that are not to hard to watch (accessibility) I am good to go for a long time even if sometime I will do more rewatch that watch if I am more busy.

P.S I bought 50 figure in a month (including pre order) so why would I leave that I love them. Just yesterday I received one of Marin Kitagawa and it's practically the diamond of my collection.

That might be me intruding a bit too much, but I've noticed that you have a pretty high average score.
Back in late-2018 I, for a short-time, lost the ability to analyze anime. I later found out that the reason for that was that I was a bit of forcing myself to watch anime I wasn't liking and was "lying to myself" that they were good. This ended up, then, being likely the result of a certain burn-out that I had.

Not sure if that might also be your case, but it happened to me, I just "cured it" by "letting all out" some of my emotions about certain anime and then dropping Gundam SEED.

Sort of been through that already when I got into uni, barely watched any anime for about 3 or so years and only read (in retrospect rather terrible) xianxia/xuanhuan webnovels, but after getting back into anime around 2019 I've been into it more than ever before. Maybe I lose interest at some point again but I doubt it'll be anytime soon, especially considering my backlog.

I'm pretty young, so I suppose it could happen when I transition between life stages, like getting my first fulltime job. I think the more likely option is that I'll never fully grow out of the medium, since there's so much varied content to consume that I'll probably always find something that appeals to me in whatever place I'm in.
