This Jinshi ass mf

That was uncomfortable to read so definitely dropping the rating a bit but I do like how terrified Rapunzel is by everything that's happening. Rapey prince on a white horse with his weird sword-wielding watchers behind him and monster-merged Mikel crawling towards her with a creepy smile.

Honestly a pretty good horror setting atm. Rapunzel is definitely regretting leaving the Witch's tower now.

We started with a dark fantasy version of Rapunzel, then we moved on to Berskerk and now it's a fantasy version of Swamp Thing. I don't even know what Aka is going to make out of this, lmao.

How you can say this considering you have Berserk and Vinland Saga in your top 5 (also Oyasumi Punpun), feeling uncomfortable was fully intentional.

@Nieznajomy43 This manga has been subjectively inspired by at least 2-3 famous computer games for now, so I'm really curious what Aka is playing this time, lmao.

Prince Asshole on a white horse...
not something new, but I definitely like it. Rapunzel has already regretted leaving the tower a thousand times. We are waiting for new "joyful" places where Rapunzel is "safe".

I really have no idea what's going on anymore. First, i thought Mikel was the bad guy, then when normal people were introduced, i thought they were the good guys. Now, Mikel is the one trying to save Rapunzel, while the guys i thought were good, apparently wanna rape Rapunzel.

I'm so confused to the point where i don't understand anything anymore, in a literal sense. Is the witch good or evil? Is Mikel good or evil? What are these monsters? What's going on? And why hasn't the witch come back all this time? Every chapter leaves me with more unanswered questions than answers.

I hope we get any hints, clues, or answers regarding what the heck is happening in this apocalyptic world, but what i even hope for more, is that this perverted disgusting gross horny thing of a prince, get either beaten to a pulp, get his jewels crushed, get his schlong cut, or get offed. Can't wait to see any of these 4 things occur in the upcoming chapter, especially since Mikel has come to the rescue.

woah wtf, i expected the prince to be a p.o.s but brother just went in for the grope damn. feel like the knight dude might have a huge role to play but hard to say anything at this point. that double spread of mikel looked really good. rapunzel is relly going through it, wonder if the tone will always be like this.

Could you tell me what they are? Because the only thing that came to my mind when i started reading this, was honestly Tangled, given the prologue, the MC's name, and all.

@Skuvan The witch went away for a few days somewhere, they just went to the village on the day the witch left. All these horrors happened on the same day.
We're waiting for the chapters, it's very interesting (well, at least I'm waiting, I initially thought that I would skip the manga, because I initially thought that there would be some Disney, but damn glad that I decided to check it out anyway).

@Oblomingo Yeah, i said the exact same thing as you did, in my review of the first chapter. I literally said "i thought this would be some Disney stuff with sunshine & rainbows, and oh boy was i wrong". That was my bad though, cuz although Aka Akasaka likes to kinda troll at the endings, he's such a top-notch author that has only written masterpieces so far, without a single one not being a hit. So it was my bad that i misjudged the manga from the first few panels, i'm glad i stuck with it.

@Skuvan Dark souls, Risedent Evil 7-8, for example.

As for the plot...judging by the discussions, many see this as Aka's second attempt at writing a "mega edgy masterpiece" or sorts.

@RobertBobert Hmm... I could see Resident Evil, but isn't Dark Souls a bit of a stretch? Like, all that have showed up so far, look like a few monsters, not boss monsters, if you know what i mean. And in regards to this being his 2nd attempt at an edgy work, might the first attempt be Oshi no Ko, you mean?

@Skuvan It's very reminiscent of Berserk world-building, the anime that influenced the creation of Souls so much that you could call it the Dask Souls anime lmao.

No, Aka was writing what you might call "edgy" in one way or another long before Oshi no Ko. Ishigami's mentality and behavior in Kaguya is a clear parody of his love for it. But it wasn't particularly popular until Oshi no Ko, which is why people joked that the ending was a mess due to Aka's desire to fulfill edgy fantasies in a major manga at any cost.

Yo, i just googled what you said, and turns out you're actually right. Not that i doubted you or anything, but i've been playing FromSoftware games for YEARS, and i never knew that the genre was actually influenced by Berserk! That's such a cool fun fact. Makes sense though, given how world popular Berserk is.

Ishigami's mentality and behavior in Kaguya is a clear parody of his love for it

I have neither really seen Kaguya, nor read it, so i couldn't say, nonetheless, i've always heard from my friends that it's a seinen like the rest of his works, which gave me the idea that it's similar to them psychologically.

the ending was a mess due to Aka's desire to fulfill edgy fantasies in a major manga at any cost

Yo, i don't really know if that was the actual reason, what i do know though, is that i'm so sad that such was the reward i was given for sticking with the manga for years, chapter by chapter, every week, due to how much i enjoyed it. It is what it is, i guess.

@Skuvan That was a joke, by the way. "Why is the ending such a mess" threads have long been a genre of their own on the Oshi no Ko subreddit, lmao. But yeah, people like to speculate that Aka has Marilyn Monroe syndrome because people prefer his comedy and SoL moments to his attempts at full edgeness.

If you actually take Ishigami as his self-insert in Kaguya (this is never officially stated), then you will at least be able to understand some of the points in his letter in a general sense.

Yeah, although there are still conceptual differences, almost most of the dark fantasy element was directly taken from Berserk. Although Elden Ring already has less of that due to the collaborative development of the lore.

@RobertBobert Ishigami is an awesome character in my opinion (sorry for intruding into your conversation). But my love is Kaguya herself and Miyuki.
We are waiting for the appearance of swamps in this manga.

@Oblomingo I didn't say he was a bad character. He's literally one of my favorites. The point was that if you took him as an author avatar, it could explain some of Aka's work or personality traits.

I get the feeling that the prince is most definitely a commentary on the fairytales of old that normalized stuff like assault and misogyny and portrayed them as some sort of ideal. Pretty effective deconstruction of tropes, but that doesn't mean I have to like him. Can't wait to see Mikel tear his guts out, LOL.
