You know Whisper Me a Love Song? Cloudhearts (subsidiary of Yokohama) that was such a mess after delaying it indefinitely, they cancelled the blu-ray release and Cloudhearts inevitably filed for bankruptcy.

Or just pretty much watch something by yokohama, that'd be an easy answer. The director alone can't save this and it already looks janky in the first place.

That beheading mid hug was brutal!

Wait, are we gonna have a 170 year time skip? That's how it sounded like she was saying in the end.

I feel like this could have been so much better with better art and animation. It was kind of underwhelming in that aspect.

I thought it would be a typical samurai dark fantasy with chambara elements, but what I ended up with was a very edgy family drama in the vein of Yosuga no Sora.

As a manga reader, I don’t like how they cut out important dialogue for example in the scene where shirayuki confesses to jinya and he accepts with no dissent which feels very unnatural. In general, the facial expressions are very weak, far away from the mangas quality in that regard. Example: Jintas facial expressions during the whole shirayuki death sequence + fight against suzune were super poor, and way better in the manga

A decent start. Not great, but acceptable. Bunch of illogical takes and inconsistencies, like his sister remaining a child in body, but she aged like they did as well. To be tricked so easily is just stupid.
. My puppy has more complex way of thinking that she does. Not to mention having ability to see future but
.

I understand it's a setup for some revenge/love story, but it's stupid and should have been made better.

Overall, it's worth waiting and seeing few more episodes. At least story is decently original if we pretend Daemon Slayer didn't exist.

Killing off the most interesting character in the first episode was definitely a choice, sexy fortune-telling demon lady come back, I beg of you T^T

In regards to everything else it all feels a bit flat but honestly it may get better and I'm keeping an opening min bc I haven't touched any of the other adaptations.

I thought Kiyomasa was gay and loved Jinta. The idea that he was raped by the female demon (he probably was) and almost raped by Shirayuki is hilarious.

I saw some potential in this anime while I watched the PV, but it got ruined with the janky animation. I am not expecting Demon Slayer-level animation; just making the action scenes smooth would be a lot better and more watchable. I always watch new animes with an open mind, but I can't watch an anime with this animation for 2 seasons. NOPE!!
@Eviwizard You sound like an NPC. The animation was fine. If you think this is bad, you aren't watching 90% of the anime coming out. Stick to only ufotable. Da fuq

so this was the opposite of demon slayer... not the kindest man consumed by rage and is now a demon himself setting out to kill his NTR killing demon sister that will end up rendering everything to nothingness but then hasn't... for 170 years?... i dunno if i can handle this level of cruelty in modern japan

maybe revenge won't be the final end goal

with this runtime despite knowing how this story usually goes it had enough of a plot twist to be slightly fresh but this still could be a monster of the week type of demon slaying anime we used to see back in the mid 2000s

it wasnt bad just not for me maybe will see how much i can stomach

Wow I just finished watching the one hour episode one of this new Anime called (Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho) first of all its really nice to finally see something new I've been a long time since I've been wanting to see a Edo style anime and this anime delivered beyond what I expected! The plot is a solid 10, the characters, Voice acting has to be some of the best I've seen this year and i thank God they finally gave my boy Yashiro, Taku a new Mc role and he delivered, animation is Ufotable level animation it was just too beautiful 100/100, music score, acting and also how beautiful and unique each character looks everything is was done so perfectly I really can't wait for the next episode, I'll recommend you guys see it too. Considering this was not only delayed by quite a lot, but this is also by the infamous Yokohama Animation Laboratory... oh an this is two cours as well? Yeah, expecting a lot more delays than just that first one lmao. But hey, at least the drawings are though!

Though, is the story at least good enough to make this stand out other than the production issues to come? Well, best way I can put it, is that this gives off major Sengoku Youko vibes from a couple seasons back. Funnily enough the MC in that one is "Jinka",,, and bro here is "Jinta" lol. Oh did I also mention this was a 50 minute premiere... jeez. At first, the main premise though, seems to be your classic "I swear I'll become strong to be with you soon!" setup, and he does fulfil that, becoming her guardian thing or whatever...

But there's also the fact that the said girl our MC was becoming strong for didn't get married twenty minutes in lmao. We got a confession shortly after though at least! He tries to hide it, but I mean, you can clearly see he isn't happy with the whole thing. So what better way than to take your anger out on this big buff demon.... While the said girl he got mad for gets fucked by the guy she just married... And ofc his sister isn't happy about this. Shit, I'm on the demon's side here, KILL HER NOW. She had every right to do what she did.... but to kill her IN FRONT OF JINTA HIMSELF...WHAT THE FUCK??? It'd only be natural for him to go just as, if not crazier than his sister, as it's revealed that he's now officially a demon like her AND BEATS THE FUCK OUT OF HER...

AND WOULD HAVE DIED... if it wasn't for miss demon taking the hit... when she herself was the one advocating for one-one-one's just minutes ago lol. So yeah, after this, you can tell what the setup will be... REVENGE against his own sister.

It's an interesting start, for sure. I can kind see where this'll go, and I'm interested to see how they'll go there, so yeah, I'm in!

The Spring season has officially begun with novelist Moto'o Nakanishi's completed series, and Yokohama Animation Lab's 1st 2-cour series (albeit delayed from Summer 2024 with production issues) will certainly leave some thoughts to be desired.

The abused children of Jinta and Suzune finding themselves a better life at the Kadono village, meeting kids like Shirayuki and adults like Motoharu teaching him swordsmanship to tackle against the demons trying to consume a demonic sword, having taken the lives of the Itsukihime and village sentinels protecting it. And a timeskip which sees the grown-up Jinta protecting the new Itsukihime that is Shirayuki, Jinta taking care of Suzune can be a pain at times, though she's relievedly lively.

Shirayuki just being herself brings joy to both Jinta and Suzune, no matter the times the trio have shared amongst each other in their growing-up years. And despite both Jinta and Shirayuki being together for most of the time to the point of love, her arranged marriage to Kiyomasa to bear a successor is tantamount, with Jinta being very focused on being the sentinel to protect her, they share the same thoughts and are birds of a feather.

The sighting of demons, as well as Kiyomasa not understanding why Jinta would allow someone like him to have Shirayuki for himself, comes to a head when the demons attack the village, and a lady demon visiting Suzune being the same brethren, only to show her the foresight of things that are about to happen that concerns Jinta, 170 years into the future, with her demon eye. Suzune being the demon of all demons of Kadono village if she's not killed sooner, as Shirayuki almost saw herself being raped by Kiyomasa (to then reverse it on her own stipend), only for the lady demon to intervene together with Suzune to see the betrayal she wasn't hoping to see. The emotional manipulation from the demon only made matters worse when Suzune evolves into her demon state and kills Shirayuki, only for Jinta to evolve into a demon state himself and exterminate Suzune for real.

The demons having fulfilled their purpose to drive the Kadono village into ruins, Jinta's efforts were all for naught with Suzune's escape. And leaving Kadono village is what Jinta must do, becoming the owner of the Yarai and being renamed as Jinya. The village chieftain being to blame for the tragedy that befell his own village, and Jinta has no choice to but use the demons' 170 years of foreshadowing, to connect both past and present together.

What a brutal hour-long premiere, but at least it sets the story going for this arduous journey.

The conflict began when they not following their heart and sacrificing themselves for nothing. I root for the villain than the good guys. The problem can be solved but of course they went full misunderstanding route instead.

I knew she'd die from the first second but I wish she had died in a more tasteful way.

The episode was very very poorly executed. I haven't read the novel but I feel like a lot of things were omitted. Things were going a but too fast and it was possible to give the characters a bit more depth. All I've gain from this is just a bunch of information. Like if I hadn't watch this episode myself but just heard the details from other people and went straight to the next episode, nothing would've changed.

It's not really bad, but wasted potential.

PS: Yandere brocon imouto let's go!!

This will be the 3rd anime from Yokohama studio I'll be watching and so far it is easily the best their project so far. Hopefully it won't turn into a slideshow like The kingdoms of ruins and The Witch and the Beast. But even if it did plot wise this already seems better. I did not even consider watching this but I was pleasingly surprised. Liked how grounded it was without any forced retarded comedy. Anyway it has my attention for now. Let's how it will develop.

Somehow I didn’t get notified about this dropping a few days ago, but fuck this was one of the best premieres I’ve seen in a long time. I LOVE hour long first episodes that suck you in and leave off on big twists. I was so locked in the whole time, I can’t wait to see Jinya’s story play out this seems very interesting.

Younger demon “sibling” who goes out of control and wants to destroy the world after being manipulated by other demons? Close enough, welcome back Sengoku Youko! Wow this was so fucking good. I kept having this feeling something was going to go wrong and end the idyllic peace that the village had, but I didn’t think it’d be this bad. Shirayuki and Jinta were so damn cute, I wanted nothing more than for them to be happy together but it just seemed like the universe had other plans whether it was Kiyomasa cucking him or the demon plot.. just unfair

But nothing could have prepared me for those last 10 minutes or so holy shit. I had such a bad feeling when the clairvoyant demon was manipulating Suzune and Ueda Reina’s yandere performance was brilliant.. but dawg slicing Shirayuki head off was fucking wild. It’s like Suzune just completely broke mentally when she saw Shirayuki and Kiyomasa. I understand being upset because she basically gave up any chance of being with Jinta, even prevented herself from growing so he wouldn’t be attracted to her, all so he and Shirayuki could be together and then it was basically for nothing.. but like destroying the world over it is an insane crash out 😭

“If you can’t appreciate me then I’m done” like bitch you just killed your brother’s love interest in front of him and desecrated her body of lmaooo. Can’t fucking wait to see what’s going on in present day and what Jinta got up to these last 200 years or so. Feels like a darker, grittier Sengoku youko so I’m excited as hell.

P.S so I’m confused. Obviously the demons are like Kimetsu where they have vampiric tendencies and aversion to light, but was Jinta not born a demon? Like did the one he fought turn him into a demon or how did that work?

i somehow, even understand suzune did something wrong. but I fell like I'll support her more than jinta. Like, jinta didn't even tried to listen to her side! As if her being his sister was nothing compared to his love, it's so frustrating! Like...I felt satisfied that that shirayuki (yuki) was killed, yeah no I'm not sorry perhaps cause there wasn't much character development and jinta (he was slater than the 10 day's old slate bread. the most emotions I saw him showing was when he was angry after turning into demon, sure he did showed emotions but there's a line between looking cool while acting cold or straight up non-emotional flat character.) The only people's at fault is that village chief and that demon who manipulated suzune. But jinta, too....like bro you left your home and everything for your sister just for you to ignore her feelings as soon as a girl (yuki) got introduced to you, like..what? He became that protector for yuki but couldn't even be a good, atleast present understanding brother for his child sis? i thought he would understand her more. Cause of whome you left village for? I'm definitely siding with suzune even if she burns the world down.

What exactly did she do that was worthy of death however? Even if one believes cheating in a relationship warrants a death sentence, she wasn't cheating or doing anything behind Jinta's back. It was all known about and well-established in advance that they both jointly opted not to pursue a romantic relationship and live separate lives tied to their own personal sense of duty and fulfillment.

I don't hate or even dislike Suzune either - maybe she was a little naive and easily led astray, perhaps also a side effect of her immature brain. That's about the only criticism I could muster for her. But fail to see what Shirayuki did to deserve being killed when as far as was shown, she never treated anyone (including Suzune) cruelly or anything of the sort.

I'm usually all for the side of the sister and anything in favor of closer sibling relationships, but it's difficult to cast Shirayuki as a villain here...

There are two things bothering me:

1. I feel like it was really dumb not to tell Suzune in that moment that Shirayuki had already talked to Jinta about this, he knows, and this is a joint decision by them.
It might not have helped since Suzune didn't seem stable but just going "nah, this is how it gotta be" when you are being accused of going behind his back and betraying him, doesn't make sense or help support your case. Instead telling her that it's absolutely not behind his back, he specifically wanted her to be with him, and that this is something she decided on with him as a way to uphold their love for each other, probably would work better.

2. I get high emotions, but damn do I wish that Jinta had even tried to talk Suzune down. I mean she was acting rather crazy and unstable not malicious and evil. Like I feel there could've been at least some seeding of Suzune doubting her actions and regret. That would make him saying later that he wants a peaceful resolution despite the malice he feels towards her for what she did, feel a little bit more deserved and set up a better attempt at it.

Otherwise it wasn't too terrible. Though some of the comments in another thread make me worried that the anime is dropping some useful context that would help actions flow.
