I don't look down on people that love shounen the most. But I do look down on shounen fans that think shounen is the superior demographic.

In case it isn't clear enough, the difference is that the first group just think that shounen is the best match for their taste, the second thinks shounen is objectively better.

@Sen1793 Unpopular opinion, I actually don't care that Shounen fans think their demographic is the best. Everyone has a favorite demographic, and I say this as someone whose favorite demographic isn't Shounen (my favorite is Shoujo).

The only issue is when they just watch Shounen and the occasional Seinen, but then complain about how Shounen haters aren't open minded. Like dude... You're as closed minded as you claim others are...

@LuxuriousHeart I wouldn't say I care about it, just that it makes me eyeroll really hard.

And the problem isn't thinking of it as the best in the favorite sense. It's when they think the others are worth less beyond personal opinion that I find it ridiculous.

@rohan121 This!!!! +1

You took the words right out of my mouth.... I actually don't hate any demographic enjoyer unless until they shame you for enjoying a particular demographic.... Shoujo fans actually shame people for liking Shonen... They complain that the female characters are not according to their taste... Well ofcourse not!! Why would a shonen female protagonist will behave like a pathetic Shoujo female MC???? Shoujo fans call men who enjoy Shonen but not Shoujo as sexists!! Why would any shonen fan will enjoy Shoujo female characters????? They would obviously hate those female shoujo MC and not relate to Male shoujo MC, so they consume very less shoujo

Shoujo Male MCs are just a vehicle to the readers fantasies... They are not treated as humans with self respect, pride, value... No matter how shitty the female MC treats him, no matter how much she cheats on him, no matter how much she spits in his face, no matter how much she lies, no matter how immature she is, no matter how little she loves him back, no matter how much she beats him up, the male shoujo MC still has to apologize to the Female Shoujo MC and he still has to love her, still has to pursue her.... No shonen fan complains about Shoujo Male MCs, shonen fans just ignore shoujo stories and that is the end of it... But shoujo fans constantly complain about Shonen female MCs, constantly shame shonen fans for consuming "problematic female MC works", they even shame real men by comparing them to fictional Shoujo Male MCs... go to r/shoujo to experience this first hand

The only demographic that has real problematic behaviour is Shoujo fans.... Everyone else is pretty chill even the "Goku can beat AIDS" fans when compared to Shoujo fans

I will conclude this from worst fans to better fans-> Shoujo Fans, Ranma 1/2 fans(especially Akane stans), Re: Zero fans
Go and disagree with them, they spew actual hate towards you, not even decent banter.... But JJK, DBZ fans even though they are passionate, its interesting to disagree with them and have banter without experiencing genuine hate from them
@Kira_Illusionist You make all these claims about shoujo and not yet a single shoujo in your list...... Also I've never seen shoujo fans actively hate on shounen itself, or at least more than any other anime fan. If anything I've seen frustations voiced by shoujo fans of how female characters in shounen are treated or how shoujo is viewed by the average shounen fan.

I feel like your views are very skewed by some experience you've had in the past but trust me it's not the norm, and not all shoujo is the way you've described.

Personally I don't look down on anyone, even if all they watch is something I would personally not enjoy.
I don't like people that are dismissive or other genres or demographics without even giving them the chance.

I don't tend to look down on anyone for their views on anime, at the end of the day we all have different tastes and one show I might think is mid or bad, someone else might love. I only tend to look down on people who dismiss shows or genres without giving it a chance or those who believe that they have a 'superior' taste in anime.

@Kira_Illusionist No, you're deflecting due to feeling guilty. Which isn't my problem, that's your problem.

Except, that's not my mindset. My mindset is that one must be open and not actively dismiss things. My mindset is that if you're closed minded, you miss out on great stuff. My mindset is to not paint certain things as bad. My mindset is that if you actively avoid and/or talk down on something diverse, there's a deeper reason. Similarly to how the anti-woke happens to hate every game with a black protagonist. That isn't a red flag? Nothing alarming? No?

Your example isn't the same at all. It's a deflection and a poor deflection. My example is: "if you think everything made by women and for women is terrible, then re-evaluate why you think so" or "if you think everything made by black/brown people are bad, then re-evaluate why you think so".

Your example is: "if you don't watch movies made by black guys named Wade, then you're racist and not open minded! Just using your logic!"

That isn't my logic at all...
@LuxuriousHeart

Please elaborate on how "I don't like Shoujo so I won't watch it" equals "EVERYTHING made by women and for women is TERRIBLE"??

Black guys named Wade huh... So Telugu people are just Brown people named Telugu to you huh... So chinese are just asian people named chinese huh...

Do you only look at the surface not inside??? You only look at the skin colour but not the different languages, cultures, values???

So Telugu people are same to you as Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu because they all are brown people????? That's why you don't have a problem not watching Telugu products because you watched some Hindi products????

"Not all shoujo is the way you've described", can you brief on what you think on how I described Shoujo to make sure we are on the same page on how I view Shoujo

If a person says "I don't like Shoujo so I won't watch it", do you think they are being dismissive towards Shoujo??

Well you describe shoujo as having pathetic males that exist purely for the fantasy of the viewer and unlikeable female MC's that treat them badly. Correct me if I misunderstood that.

Uhhh I would have to hear more from someone saying that but my first instict would be yes because shoujo is such a vast demographic with so many different shows and manga that it would feel unfair to so many of the amazing ones to be dismissed as simply shoujo. I would say the same if it was about any demographic or genre.

@LaShoujo Just by the word "normal"... I would assume normal means it happen atleast 70% of the time... Like it's normal for X to win or it's normal for Y to lose right... Nothing out of the ordinary... So when you say "it's not the norm" I would assume it wouldn't happen more than 30% of the time

Ya you got 90% right... The males are not "pathetic" but they become pathetic [after falling in love with female lead] without self respect, always apologizing to female lead even if it's not their fault, not calling out bad behaviour of the female lead like any self respecting man would have etc because the writers have to fulfill the readers' fantasies... Ya the female leads are unlikeable and treat the male leads badly...

If a person says "I don't like Shoujo so I won't watch it" are they sexists, misogynists???

I have to wonder if Shounen fans assume they're Shoujo fans, simply because they're girls complaining about the females in Shounen.

@Kira_Illusionist

I mean while those DO exist the same also exists the other way around. I've seen shounen/seinen with girls being submissive to men who don't treat them well. Both are fantasy shows and appeal to a specific audience. But again that's for a niche and not everyone enjoys that. I know what type of shoujo you're describing because I've seen some like that. And I didn't particularly enjoy them. But there's still many that are amazing and don't fit into that frame. Idk what shows you've seen but it doesn't hurt to broaden your horizon, I've been opening up to shounen too :)

Wouldn't go that far. They COULD avoid shoujo for those reasons but I'd assume more likely that they are misunderstanding what shoujo is or are a little bit misguided.

I don't look down on shounen fans because there is nothing wrong with being a fan of anime within that demographic. Many acclaimed classics are in effect shounen anime- most notably Ashita no Joe, possibly the definitive TV anime series.

But do I look down on people who treat current popular anime like sports or pro wrestling and invent new obnoxious terms to replace "rule of cool"? Yes. Yes I absolutely do.

For you "If you don't watch Telugu movies means you are racist towards Telugu" EQUALS "If you don't watch works made by Black people named Wade, you are a racist"...

Black people named "Wade" doesn't have a particular language, culture, traditions and values... But Telugu people have a particular language, culture, traditions and values... Hence you ignored all of those things in Telugu people like a racist... Hence my accusation, "Telugu people are just BROWN PEOPLE NAMED TELUGU to you"...

Why you don't understand racism is just clubbing all the people of one particular race as one group... For you Telugu people is just part of Brown people, not recognising their own identity

@LaShoujo This just seems like they skimmed like 3 Shoujo with that premise, and stereotyped it. Or heard someone else describe Shoujo as that. It's like they saw Hot Gimmick, Nana, and Boys Over Flowers, and they assume every Shoujo is one of those.

This is why it's hard to have actual discourse about Shoujo because too many are uninformed. You have some claiming that Shoujo is too wholesome romance now, meanwhile they're just reading Shoujo from Dessert and Bessatsu Friend magazines. They could easily just explore other Shoujo magazines... And then you have some complaining about how toxic Shoujo is, in which case they should just read from Dessert and Bessatsu Friend. Or ones that claim Shoujo is only romance, but they only read romance Shoujo...

Old Shoujo, that too they are in minority... At that time, among 5 popular Shoujo atleast 1 would have male leads that are Toxic red flags at the start... The female lead, since she has to fall in love with the male lead at the end, has to give him some chance making people think she is a pushover... Now this toxic red flag male lead suddenly turns over a new leaf and becomes pathetic to gain Female lead's love which was my complaint "Pathetic male leads"... Same show, conflicting complaints, but both are true and valid

@LaShoujo It's the assumption that girls only like romance, pink, and dolls. Which is far from the truth. Girls are all different, which is why why an ensemble cast of girls usually works. Give them different personalities and you appeal to everyone. Tinkerbell and friends, Winx, Steven Universe, Powerpuff Girls, Sailor Moon, Kageki Shoujo, Mean Girls, etc. Even in slice of life romance Shoujo with a friend group. In Kimi ni Todoke and Fruits Basket. Sawako is shy and inexperienced in romance, and she's fairly modest in dress. Ayane is into makeup, she's more assertive, and she's experienced in relationships. Chizuru is into sports and is a tomboy, and she has a heart of gold. Look at Fruits Basket. Tohru is very sweet and willing to help anyone, no matter how evil or mean they act. Arisa is very brash and rough. She's an ex-delinquent and a fighter. Saki is a goth girl that's a bit snarky and sarcastic, but she's also perceptive.

And there's a statistic that most horror fans are women. It explains why horror originated in Shoujo magazines.

@Kira_Illusionist It can happen everywhere, but that's not a trope that's unique to Shoujo, and it's not the only trope in Shoujo.

I meant that to say that if one side is saying that female leads are rude and one side is saying they're pushovers, doesn't that imply diversity?

Except, some say that they stay toxic. So the point is, if one is claiming that the guys are too perfect and another claiming that they're too toxic, doesn't that imply that there's stories with both? And once again, neither trope is unique to Shoujo.

Except, people are now complaining that female leads in Shoujo are pushovers... So which is it? Are women abrasive and rude, or are they docile pushovers?

Overwhelming Minority... It means the writer took a risk and it backfired.. Also OLD Shoujo

LuxuriousHeart said:

Majority.. You need to change perfect to pathetic to make it more accurate

LuxuriousHeart said:

Whichever side does the female protagonist belongs to doesn't matter, because they end up unlikeable in the end which was the main problem...

If the female lead is rude and abrasive, they abuse the male lead physically and mentally... They hurt the male lead and they don't care

If the female lead is docile, they are also weak to set boundaries with the other male leads, they believe other characters' lies over male lead's truth, become a noble idiot and bring pain to Male lead etc etc... They care about the male lead but they still hurt him

Whatever the group belongs to, the female protagonist ends up hurting Male lead and become unlikeable

I would bet that people complaining about pushover female leads actually comeback to Shoujo, without abandoning it completely since pushover female leads are in minority while people complaining about Female lead mistreating male leads just abandon Shoujo and don't look back since Female leads mistreating male leads are in overwhelming majority

@LaShoujo pickme ahh rhetoric, you aren't unique for watching the less popular genre. guess what? you are the target audience.
womxn who watch femxle orientated shounen like jujutsu kaisen or haikyuu are also the target audience.
shounen and seinen magazines give more oppurtunities for femxle writers than vice versa ergo kusuriya & atelier and they also have unprecedented success ergo fma and kny. It's always the shoujo crybullies yapping about tropes and how things for mxn are problematic mayn. this rhtoric is the femxle version of those otaku who have a meltdown if an anime has a mxle character. you also can't comment on people not trying shit when you're only mad they haven't tried shit from the genre you exclusively watched. there is no variety in your list for example.

"shounen and seinen magazines give more oppurtunities for femxle writers than vice versa ergo kusuriya & atelier and they also have unprecedented success ergo fma and kny."

I know there's many shounen written by women, where in my post did you get the idea of the opposite? This wasn't about women writing manga this was simply about the shoujo demographic.

Where are you getting the idea that I'm mad? I'm just saying maybe don't judge an entire demographic if your MAL doesn't even have a single one listed. What is this person basing their opinions on if they didn't watch one? Are women abrasive and rude, or are they docile pushovers?

Please elaborate on how "I don't like Shoujo so I won't watch it" equals "EVERYTHING made by women and for women is TERRIBLE"

Fruits Basket and Kimi ni Todoke are very popular Shoujo series. The girls were super nice while the guys were the problem in those series.

Female lead hurts the male lead? Uh, what??? This makes no sense...

No, people are currently complaining that most are pushovers and shy, and saying that Seinen like Apothecary Diaries has more mean and assertive female characters.

@Dienen Shoujo has a lot of male editors and men are over the magazines... Also, very few men bother to write Shoujo. The only man that I can think of, that currently makes Shoujo, is Junji Itou. If: Oda, Togashi, Kishimoto, Naoki Urasawa, Horikoshi, etc., decided that they wanted to create a Shoujo or Josei Manga, a magazine would snatch them up in a heartbeat. Yet they're not asking to write Shoujo or Josei. They want to keep writing Shounen and Seinen. Which is fine. But don't act like a carpet wouldn't be rolled out for them if they decide to write for a Shoujo or Josei magazine.

No one is mad. Ironically, the Shounen fan got triggered. I just pointed out how Shounen fans claim that Shoujo and Seinen fans are closed minded heaters, when Shoujo and Seinen fans are likely to have read all demographics.

@LuxuriousHeart Maid sama, Boys over flowers, Ooku, Fruits basket, Kimi ni todoke , Nana are ALL OLD!!

Maid sama Male lead is a jerk, but he is still more liked than the Female lead... How unlikeable should the Female lead be of people liked a Jerk more than her??? same with Boys over flowers the jerk male lead is more liked than the female lead....

You don't see the toxicity of Nana female leads and how they played with all the male leads' feelings is beyond me... I heard in the manga one of the male leads died, ya any sane man will kill themselves if they loved Nana leads...

Toxic and weird Yandere is the fanservice... "Out of options, Satoko makes a desperate gamble: under the pretense of love at first sight, she asks him to marry her." from the synopsis... The female lead is a liar, manipulator who takes advantage of Male lead's feelings towards her and you are suggesting that she is a likeable female lead??? Lying and manipulation doesn't count as hurting in your book????

I am talking about Shoujo as a whole and you bring these weird exceptions which are not exceptions at all... I do have a Shoujo list of like 10 anime which has likeable female leads... But 10 anime out of 1000's Shoujo anime means Shoujo as a whole has unlikeable female leads

Now I understand why you are saying that I am deflecting because you are the one deflecting... If Shoujo is the worse than Shonen and Seinen, then it makes sense that Shoujo fans watch Shonen and Seinen because they are better products...

If Shonen is the best and better than Shoujo, then it makes sense that Shonen fans DON'T watch Shoujo...

Shoujo fans watching Shonen and Shonen fans avoiding Shoujo just proves that Shonen is better than Shoujo

Just like Germans buy German cars and don't buy American cars, since German cars are better than American cars

Since American cars are worse than German cars, many Americans would buy German cars instead of American alternatives

Just like Trump doesn't understand why Germans won't buy American cars and think they look down on America, YOU luxuriousHeart think Shonen fans not watching Shoujo is because they look down on women

for that I say

To Trump: Mr President, If you want Germans to buy American cars, then make better American cars that outperform German cars
To LuxuriousHeart: you Shoujo fan, if you want men to watch Shoujo anime, then demand better works from Shoujo that outperform Shonen anime

Particularly comparing 'Black guys named Wade' who doesn't have their unique language, history, culture, Industry, festivals, Calendars to Telugu people who have all of those... I will try to find another Indian on this site and show your statements, and if they also tell how racist your comments are then maybe then you will realise it...

So do people in every country. News at 5.

What are you talking about?? ONLY 1 COUNTRY IN THE WHOLE WORLD IS CALLED A SUB CONTINENT... The word "Country" is not enough to encapsulate the diversity in India, so they called it a Continent... Since India is not a Continent, they settled with Sub-Continent...

If every country has this, then How many New Years does America celebrate and how many New Years do you think people in India as a whole celebrate???

The only deflection is from you.

You are the one deflecting without answering my questions...

1. You still did not elaborate on how "I don't like Shoujo so I won't watch it" equals "EVERYTHING made by women and for women is TERRIBLE", saying "How do you assume you won't like it" is not elaborating... It is deflecting the question without answering it

2. You still did not apologize for wrongly accusing me of wanting Shoujo to disappear,

3. You till now never addressed the unlikeable Female Protagonist issue when I asked you about it million times...

You are the one deflecting so many times till now
