What a surprise! Masaki didn't do anything to those new guests. I thought he would do something to them, especially with the kid.

A musician, a kid who wants to become an astronaut, and a little kitty. Interesting trio.

Surprisingly wholesome episode this time.

A Blue Giant episode, it's heartwarming even if it's a little bit sad.

I just notice that the hotel manager is so hot, I don't mean just his head (which is fire), but his body is so buff that I can tell even with his clothes on!

Neko with neko! Although neko wouldn't admit it, but what a pair!
Neko wouldn't know. She said Atori can keep the Saxophone as a memory. That would be normal if it were a fan meeting an idol. But Atori knew; Okawa left the Saxophone to him to encourage him to pursuit his music once again.

After all the chaos Oosoto caused, it was time for a calmer episode. Well the reason was that this time there was no woman to murder.

It was interesting to get a glimpse into Atori's past and how he regained his passion for music with the help of his favorite artist. I hope they delve more into Ruri's story as it seems she had problems with her mother from what she said.

A much more calm and sedate, peaceful episode this time around. That's not a demerit. I adore the balance and see-saw in this show where it alternates and teeters between cozy, ornate, old-fashioned hotel filled with friendly strangers you wouldn't mind holing up through a whole cold season with room service or maybe even spending an eternity in versus being violently shoved to the precipice of hell and oblivion.

It was probably more peaceful as well this go-around due to neither of the main featured guests being our resident serial killer Osoto's "type". As in, young and vulnerable, confused and distressed looking women. He already commented to Ruri that he doesn't like kids, so let's assume that's true. And I'd surmise that he isn't interested in older men either.

One detail this episode confirmed which may not affect anything but I consider it interesting to know is that apparently non-human animals can make it to the hotel as well. Since this is the first instance when that happening with one, the cat, has been shown. Perhaps the rules around them are slightly different. Perhaps they only appear when dead and never in the uncertain in-between states of temporary unconsciousness from injury, syncope, a comatose state, etc. Maybe they can only come while accompanying a human guest to serve as some form of animal guide and assistance to them, and therefore it's usually probably domesticated pet animals like cats and dogs versus wild animals. But noteworthy whatever the truth of it.

It is interesting that other than the Manager we are all still learning the rules at the hotel.
The mystery approach helps the show to work perhaps too simple in its SOL looks.

Enjoying the balance

That was a heartwarming episode, I was worried there was going to be an abuse angle when Shota mentioned hating his mother and Ogawa suggested he and the boy be friends but it was actually super wholesome instead.

Episode 5 had me feeling the anime, but this one didn't do anything for me. The story is so flat. We get a drop of development for Haruto, but what else did the story have to say? In the words of his coach, this "doesn't touch my heart at all."

We're back to the earlier tone of this anime, and best bloke Masaki did not induce someone to die. Clearly he is only targetting female guests.

With all the drama in the forum these past two episodes, maybe it's a nice break before Masaki will, to paraphrase Atobe, awe as with his prowess of getting away with murder.

@Akaseaka Although neko(猫) means cat in Japanese, Neko's name doesn't use the cat kanji. It uses 音子, which is sound plus child.

ETA:

If Neko behaves in a way that's similar to a cat, just like Maōmaō from Apothecary Diaries, which uses two cat characters 猫猫, it's probably a wordplay.

@patkarunungan I see. Thank you.
Now that you've talked about this, I think it might be an intentional wordplay. Overall character design aside, the mouth of Neko, the ω shape, is a very typical neko-guchi or cat-mouth.

@Swiggy I couldn't stop laughing at that 😭 I feel bad for laughing at Atori's trauma but them playing it twice was hilarious.

This also lead me back to Episode 4 review, since the musician's death was natural, this means he cannot checked out, but he can go to heaven, this means if the Handphone head girl manage to stay calm than let herself being manipulated, she could have ascend to heaven peacefully without holding a grudge on her friend.

A episode on the lighter side which I appreciate. I was wiping literal tears by the end of it though hahaha

When I saw the new guests were an old man and a kid (+ a cat), I thought "Osoto better not show up this episode" lol. When he appeared, "stay away, stay away". Good job Neko for the jab when the cat and kid were afraid of him. Of course, Ruri would be avoiding you too lol

Good news: you met your idol. Bad news: it's one step before the afterlife. I can only imagine the conflict in Atori's heart. He immediately knew who he was :') But it's fun how Neko's fangirl side always gets a bit of spotlight every episode. She is so chill and carefree. The ending with Ogawa's real final performance was very nice, with the cat going to his side, aww. For Shota, I have friends irl who also have asthma but seemed to get to a better condition enough that they can take care of pets now, so maybe he'll be able to get close to cats in the future too hehe

We are now halfway the series so I expect the tone would be on the heavier side again from the next week - we will talk about Osoto again, and the causes of his and the human employees' stay in the hotel.

Thought: I am not sure if Ogawa was able to ask Atori why he is in Tasokare Hotel. But it's funny to think that Ogawa will wonder: Is Atori really human? Why is he a concierge in an otherworldly establishment?

Finally a wholesome episode after the past 3 episodes of darkness. Horuto's past is interesting and I can relate to him to a certain extent.

"I spent my life going with the flow", can definitely relate.

I was scared that maybe Masaki will use that boy as his test subject again in this episode, so the ending was a relief, seeing the kid returning home safe.

A man with a vinyl record head and a kid with a spaceship head, I would not have thought that these two would be connected by a lone kitten. For the adult, his room filled with music stuff, even a saxophone that he's more than willingly to play, it apparently hurts Atori a bit. And the child's aspirations being shown his space room is easily identifiable, though they're great sensors against the heinous Masaki, who only targets females. Furthermore, their resonance together being like grandfather and grandson is just so sweet to see, though Neko seeing Atori feeling a bit off, gets into her intrigue.

Atori clearly knowing the man himself as the world-renowned jazz player Takashi Ogawa, and having once dabbled in music himself, only to give up halfway, he and Neko actually have a lot in common, and seeing his dead idol surely should give him some sense of excitement. And Takashi's music, which is the very breath of his life, is able to resonate together with Atori on commonality. For the asthmatic Shota Watanabe though, him being with a kitten that could trigger his condition, and then actually dying from a rather bad fall, it's quite the freak accident.

While Shota is able to return to the living world, Atori presses in for one last song of Takashi's, which also sends the musician back to Earth thereafter and leaving the saxophone with Atori.

For once, this is a good memory.
